Tim you need to do this more often, we need a UK Walkie Talkie, and you seem to be the one to do it if this is anything to go by.

Haha thanks! that's my plan, hoping to make this a proper series in the new year and shine a spotlight on all the UK street photographers creating amazing work!

As an Irish based photographer I can relate so much more to UK based photographers than US, so as much as I love Paulie B's Walkie Talkies, and I do, I do not relate to them and it's like another planet. This video shot just across the water from me with an incredibly talented and enthusiastic photographer has been a breath of fresh air, you asked the right questions but gave Cal plenty of scope to talk and share his methods. I also really connected with Cal as I am also absolutely hyper when out and walk fast, I've ADHD without an official diagnosis and it wouldn't surprise me if Cal was the same, constantly scanning and looking for the next great picture, which he gets many of. Great video Tim, please keep these going as they are a breath of fresh air!
@timjamiesonphotosАй бұрын
Ah thank you for such a lovely comment, Dave! I’m mindful that I don’t just want to rip Paulie B off, so I’m trying to do it in my own way and to showcase the depth of great street photographers in the UK, at least that’s the plan anyway!

It’s an about people. It’s about us. Cal taps into what I love about street photography and it’s something that I think has been lost with a lot of what tries to make a claim to the genre. I feel that Cal would rather cut off his own hand than negate people with silhouettes, long lenses or other silliness. Humanity (and horses) doing what we do.

Great one Tim - I have been following him (and you!) for a while. I'm completely with him on street photography, making, what might have been boring before, now interesting, and making you more observant. I'm really not sure this kind of frantic photography brings anything new nor worthwhile to our humanity nor to art. I mean it's just paparazzi work for the masses.
@timjamiesonphotos12 сағат бұрын
What kind of photography, in your expert opinion, does then?
@rebours12 сағат бұрын
These photographers are just addicted to sensational scenes that they catch relying on repetitives and ultimately boring techniques...
@rebours12 сағат бұрын
@ i'm not an expert, my culture of photography history is still very limited. But I decidely prefer when the photographer has established an actual human connection with his subject. This practice is just rude and btw this is strickly illegal in countries like France and Germany...
@timjamiesonphotos12 сағат бұрын
Sounds like you don’t like or appreciate street photography then which is fine but if that’s the case then this channel isn’t for you! (Photographing people in public is not illegal in France or Germany)
@rebours12 сағат бұрын
@ it is illegal to publish without consent. And I do appreciate it, when it's done the right way.
@noyo14444 күн бұрын
Naahh not my thing. You need to give people space. I find this way of taking pictures disrespectful.
@timjamiesonphotos4 күн бұрын
That’s the great thing about street photography, you don’t need to do anything a certain way. If you don’t like it, then no problem, this channel isn’t for you
@Frank-ro5bpАй бұрын
Good way to not miss focus is not use a auto-focus camera.
@timjamiesonphotosАй бұрын
Pretty hard to nail focus with a manual focus camera in the autumn winter light. Critical focusing while moving fast at 3.5 is probably going to be less accurate than auto focus
@timothykieperАй бұрын
Try that in a big American city and you will be picking camera gear out of your teeth. ( or worse ). But, perhaps well deserved ???
@timjamiesonphotosАй бұрын
Haha London isn't exactly polite and well behaved. But regardless, Cal doesn't change his approach when he photographs in New York and he still has all his teeth. You clearly didn't watch the whole video, nor do you know much about the street photography community in the States if you think that's the case!
