@yhanie irish LMH - It is just that the son and daughter did not show up for the dinner he prepared. It never should have been up to him to prepare dinner. It should have been them taking him to dinner or together cooking dinner for him. The photo of one of the kid's birthday party when they were young indicates that he was probably not a bad father. So, there is no excuse for their failure. The only consolation will be that if they have children, the children will see how badly the son & daughter treat their father. The grandchildren will learn from that bad example and treat their parents even worse.

This was so well portrayed. Thank you for sharing it. As our population of seniors rises, so does the increase of sadness and loneliness with our elders. Adult children often live very far from parents. The parents often can not travel. Life continues in a circle. Most have no choice, as they too have responsibilities, and demands on their shoulders, and many with families of their own. But, there is absolutely no excuse for not taking the time, no matter where you are, to call your elders each day, even for just a few minutes. Also, no excuses for missing /not acknowledging special occasions. Once their gone, there will not be any "I'll call you later" chances. Even if estranged, time to let that go. Anyway, right or wrong, these are just my thoughts. The video reminded me of a song called "Cat's in the Cradle, performed by Harry Chapin, from the early 70's. I have this friend of mine who is very happy in everyday life she's also very annoying, she always ask me to go out with her on her bday but my parents won't let me. So I just spend her bday in school, yet she seems to be very happy in simple things like that,when I was walking home to school, I saw her sitting on a bench, she was crying. I sneak up to her but then she already went, she was holding a paper. Later I found out she had Cancer, when i visit her on the hospital, her hair was already gone, she cried on to me, saying that her parents never cared for her, that's why she's keeping a happy face outside but deep inside she was breaking. She died this Feb. 15 2016 her last words she said to me was "Don't be a failure like me, like me who had low grades and always a trouble maker not like you who is very smart and your parents are really proud of you" that was she said before she died....I miss her..it's been 1 year
