Stephanie whenever you visit places such as this at times I find myself tearing up. In my late teens and early twenties I had hoped to travel in Britain and Europe. Due to many things it was something I never did. This coming December I will be 70 years old. My children are grown and on their own but i am retired now and living on a limited income. Perhaps one day I may have the opportunity to visit the places I longed to see so many years ago. I studied French for 8 years in grade school. Was briefly taught my the head of the Language Dept. at Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. I am an Anglophile (maiden name being Browning) and have been so all my life. Sometimes things happen that prevent a person from realizing their dreams. Thank you for showing me this STUNNING cathedral in France, it is breathtaking!

I wish I’d have known you were going to Bourges. The Chateau I lived at for a year was Chateau Fontillet between Bourge and Mehun sur Yerve. The family we lived with are no longer there, the parents having both passed but the Mistress of the house who was aristocracy regalled us with stories of her youth at her grandparents castle each Summer as they fled the heat of Paris, of playing hide and seek and of grand balls where European royalty including The Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret would attend.

Here’s me thinking the french murdered the aristocracy during the revolution. Can you expand on who they are?
@thomasmerkelbach2755
@thomasmerkelbach2755 3 жыл бұрын
@@dospalmascb not quite. Some aristocrats lost their heads during the revolution but far from all did. What they all lost was their privileges, titles and their political power. Still, many families managed to hold on to some if not all of their properties including their castles. Once the reign of terror was over and Napoleon declared himself emperor aristocracy was back and he even created new dukes and princes. One such family are today’s Swedish royalty. After Napoleon came the restoration of the monarchy, more revolution another empire under Napoleon III and only then, 1871, a more definite republican set-up. Today aristocratic titles have no legal value in France. But that doesn’t mean aristocratic families don’t continue to exist. There is even a pretender to the French kingship should it ever come back: Jean, Prince of Orleans, the Count of Paris, a direct descendant of the last King Louis Philippe. And of course, Stephanie bought her castle of Lalande from the very much still around family of marquis who owned the place since long before the revolution.

she is a wonderful presenter, thorough, knowledgeable, precise in grammar and diction, always well-dressed and well put together, and she is always respectful of her broader audience. even if I'm not thinking of smiling or enjoying, she can bring smiles out. I still return to many of the subjects she covers...toile du Jouy, Limoges, Spode, textiles, paintings. professional and the real deal. thank you ms. Jarvis. you are making a difference. why and what? the way that her presentation is put together. she presented the centerpiece w/out rushing, she acknowledged the location, a wonderful shot of the cathedral, and some impressive facts...it is important for the viewer to know the age of these beautiful edifices. for instance, in the U.S., as advanced as we like to think we are, we simply don't sport a cathedral that is 1000 years old.. that is significant to understand, for it is in other parts of the world, the instant case as an example, that structures, such as this one, are literally throughout Europe, etc. the video is well filmed, unrushed, set with very nice music, cut-in shots, and the very professional presentation of ms. Jarvis. these very things set her apart from many of the videos that flood this market. it is what propels her forward...there is a refreshing difference.

My Bourges story from 1972 was of my family arriving in a small square near the cathedral and there was an immense white convertable with Texas license plates, the top down and four women sitting within. The car was so large that it was stuck causing a traffic jam. We had to wait for some time as people got out of their cars and getting vehicles to back up so that the behmouth car could finally leave the square.
