Great first day with scenery, a museum, and country roads.
🌦 Beautiful skies today with the dawn colors and then the moody grays. Spring is here in the southeast and I was giddy with it. The smell of the wisteria and the vivid azaleas, green and rust fields and the clay dirt, well, I had to get a little mud on those new tires!
🌲 I had to stop and watch the lumber mill. Since childhood, I've always loved a lumber yard. The smells, the materials...the possibilities. It's a big industry in Georgia, so I got to take a quick look.
🖼 The Morris Art Museum in Augusta, Georgia was my featured "I've never been here before" stop for this leg of the trip. I love a small museum because there's always something different that you wouldn't encounter. Plus, they are usually less busy, less expensive, and more intimate. I was impressed by the quality of the landscapes, marginalized artists, art glass collection, and self-portrait gallery. Many unknown artists to see.
It's on the riverwalk too, so you get a convenient and scenic walk, some culture, a little education... and no giant crush of people and traffic.
🏡 Whenever I have the time, I much prefer a country road. This route has it all over the Interstate and I will definitely go this way again.
