He's not the first black professional bull rider...neither is he the only one. Ezekiel is probably one of the most well known black bull riders currently in the circuit but Charles "Charlie" Sampson was the first. Charlie also became the first black World Champion bull rider in 1982 and was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in 1996.

There were alot of black cowboys in the old west. Many black people went out west because there was land and opportunity, segregation wasn't really a thing out there, self defense laws were pretty lax, and most of the racism out that way at the time was directed towards natives and Hispanics... people simply get the idea there wasn't any black cowboys because there aren't that many in western films....
