“I don’t think it is healthy for a photographer to altogether run away from clichés-just as I don’t think it is wise for any kind of artist to try and do something entirely new. We are all working within a language and tradition. To avoid that language is to speak gibberish. The best thing is to accept it, and maybe, if you’re lucky, expand it a little bit.” -Alec Soth

Dude, you have to shut off the noise and go do what you do, Everything has been photographed before, but, has it been photographed by you?! Just like you said in your vid, go shoot what you want, anyway you want it. As for the paper weight, the larger format you get the more it has to lock down and, cheap large format cameras just don't cut it. As always, great images and videos!

Let me know if you’d be down to grab a coffee or drink and maybe we can explore some places in that unique river town.

One of my favourite subjects to photograph - Big Fat Detroit Chrome from the 60's and 70's. In my books, you're not a photographer unless you have at least 100 photos of Fat Detroit Chrome attached to the appropriate American car, and the lighting has to be just right as well in order to show off the magnificent curves of the Fat Detroit Chrome. Of the 100 photos one takes on the road to becoming a great photographer "MUST" include a 1970 Buick Rivera - with the classic Boat tail wrap around glass, and if you don't have one of those photos in your 100 photos, then just forget it, you might as well pack it in and start looking for something else to move you creatively. So... Bryan... you are there man, don't for a single moment pull back now and start thinking about second guessing your photography. This video was super by the way, I enjoyed it immensely.

Completely agreed about the discussion of clichés - seems to be as prevalent as ever that people get blasted for it. A significant majority (~99.8%) of film shooters are utilizing analog formats on a purely non-professional basis. They took up film photography because maybe they just liked the look, or what is often the case, they feel in touch with a certain analog spirit that compels them to populate their life with tangible images. The "clichés" like vintage cars, vintage signs, vintage anything, I think are mostly byproducts of that interest in the physical analog world. And as you've said before, shooting vintage things with vintage cameras - something just feels right about it, and I think it's because there's an extension of the hobby that encompasses all analog things. That is natural, and I'm glad you're encouraging people tuning in here to go for whatever feels right to them.

So I started using a half frame Konica recorder where you can get 72+ shots on one 35mm roll. Definitely lowered the barrier for cost per shot and it's convenient to carry around for daily use. Just stating it as a possible way to get out of ruts. Peace
