The holes on the side of the power adapter are for rubber grommits to hold the cord when wrapped
@therobb57384 жыл бұрын
By the way, the "mysterious outlet" on the power supply is for a rubber securing band, so you can keep the cables from unwrapping when in transport.

The slot in the side of the PSU is for a strap for convenient bundling up of the cords.

In recent versions, Firefox has adopted the Google Chrome design of using a separate system process for each tab that you have open, rather than combining everything into one process. The advantage is that if one tab crashes, it won't take down the whole browser with it. The disadvantage is that it uses much more RAM. (But Firefox ESR for Windows XP and Vista is still using the old design.)

i have an e5500 and a e6500. Nearly identical. My 6500 has a broken screen, but as far as using my 5500, it's great. Good battery life, and it looks badass too, all black and standard looking. Seems to be a good machine.

I do have a larger laptop similar to this which was top of the line in 2008, a Dell Precision m6400. I remember when I had the NVidia Quadro m3700, but then it went out, so I was able to replace it with the ATI firepro 7740m gpu and now it still runs well with an Intel Core 2 extreme quad core cpu with 12 gbs of ddr3 ram, 480 gb intel ssd, and Windows 7 pro.

I'm watching this on an E6500. Although mine has no modem, it has Bluetooth, a webcam and a fingerprint reader. I can watch videos in HD fine.

Thanks so much for the video! The hard drive on my E6500 is failing and I was thinking it was just about time for me to get a new laptop anyway. I bought my E6500 new, have had it in daily use for 10 years and absolutely love it. I was not looking forward at all to shopping for a new laptop knowing the kind of consumer crap that is being manufactured these days :-( So I thought I'd try cloning and replacing the hard drive so that I could keep my beloved E6500 for a couple more years. While searching for some "how to" instructions, I came across this video. Although it's not exactly what I needed as far as instructions, your detailed overview reaffirmed in my mind that I have one of the best and most versatile laptops ever made! Wish me luck on swapping out the hard drive ;-)

10:32 - Actually, those Windows 8/.1/10 machines are even easier if you need to reinstall because they'll load up and activate just fine without the product key, as it is actually baked into the motherboard somehow.
@kbhasi7 жыл бұрын
That's only on PCs using UEFI. That laptop in the video uses a legacy BIOS.
@Browningate7 жыл бұрын
@Kevin Correct. Those computers that don't have the key baked in will have it printed on a sticker. Either way works fine unless the key gets scratched off of the sticker (which has been known to be an issue).

In some places in the US, internet via dial-up is now free. You won't be able to stream but you can at least read the news headlines, sell on eBay, pay bills and make purchases.

the grafic card nvidia quadro fx370m in 2021 ?
@sburton0156 жыл бұрын
Thats actually what I like about the old Vista era PC (made in 2007 to 2009) is that they are very budget friendly PCs for doing general PC tasks and even some light/older gaming and they are still very capable of running even Windows 10. Example would be you can install Windows 10 on say a Core 2 Duo 2ghz PC with 3 GBs of ddr2 ram, and an nvidia gtx 285 and it will most likely run just fine.
@gerhardprins14126 жыл бұрын
7:57 nope, that's not for a stand. You can put a cable tie like strap into that for storage.

I've rebuilt a few of the e6400's and own a e6500 which is pretty much just a bigger screen and speakers. DDR2 for these is really expensive beyond the 2gb modules. If you can live with 4gb total memory you're in luck. The eSata port and display port are nice. These run Linux Mint 20 xfce pretty good and I've sold a few of the e6400's with that. The price of these has gone up since Covid19.

i happen to have an e6410 and while it still works perfect all aside from a very touchy caps lock key and the heavy wear. the wear being a battery latch that is slightly distorted a screen bezel that had a crack i glued back together and a crack by the right click button. this laptop came with from the factory the extended battery still holding a charge. i do have the i7 620m with the intel video rather then the nvidia graphics

I have this model and got a new 8800mAh battery for it (substitute, not DELL) that would charge to only ~82% - ~85% after 5 cycles. 1st cycle was 92%. Tried: - calibration by discharging to 5% then full charge - ends at 82% - removing ACPI driver (WIN 7) - hard reset (1 min power button pressing with AC and battery removed) Nothing works. There's no setting in BIOS (A29). Anyone figured out how to fix it?

"Hardware acceleration" on firefox has never worked that well and nearly all troubleshooting guides tell you to make sure its disabled.
@Browningate7 жыл бұрын
Disabling hardware acceleration sounds (to me) like something that could hinder the experience tremendously (as the video's author found out at 19:03). I actually had the same issue as @StereoDustParticles on my ThinkPad X200 Tablet (probably has the same Intel chipset or a very similar one) a couple years back and solved the problem less destructively by installing Pale Moon Commander and using it to set Layer Acceleration Mode to "Prefer Direct3D 9." This solved the problem without sacrificing performance in any perceptible way and still holds up well to this day.
