Listening this in '22, damn this is still quality stuff.. Besides the third movement the only label that could pull of melodic tunes with a side dish of industrial roughness.

@@yyyy482 Ophidian & Hamunaptra - Whispers of a nameless fear. It's actually speeded up in this mix. I dislike it a bit. Its much better original! Although I understand why ophidian had to speed it up in this mix.
I find it bothersome that the ranges of this genre of music (whatever it's called. I've come to call it "lazertag music") vary so widely. You have some tracks that are absolute kickers with bass, and you have others which are stabbers that rely on you having good tweeters. Is there sub-genres to differentiate the two?
@DJ-Ophidian5 жыл бұрын
FW911 You sound like somebody who exists completely outside of our scene, yet has still taken the time to explore our music. I think that’s amazing and it would be really interesting to hear how you experience it. Regarding your question: first of all I think it’s a really good thing that our genre (which we call Hardcore, from Hardcore Techno or Hardcore House music) has such a wide range. If anything, the range in the years that this mix involves was wider than it is now. I don’t know exactly what you’re describing with the bass and tweeter sounds, but I imagine that it has to do with the use of different kick drums and synth sounds. I would suggest figuring out which tracks you like and finding out which artists are responsible. This would probably lead you towards the sub (sub-sub-) genre you favor (Industrial, Mainstream, Millennium etc). I’m sure others here would also love to help you out.
@FurryWrecker9115 жыл бұрын
@@DJ-Ophidian That about sums up me. Haha! Yeah, I grew up in the boonies with rock and country music before being introduced to Hardstyle via laser tag. I was pry at youngest 11. There's this place in Pennsylvania called the Carlisle Sports Emporium, and they ALWAYS had Hardstyle blasting in the arena. Really got you pumped. Didn't know what it was back then, and I didn't have access to the internet to look it up either. Moving from there, I was introduced to DnB in my teen years through Wipeout HD/Fury. God bless the Playstation Network outage of 2011 or I wouldn't be here. I took a liking to Noisia's Machinegun and explored the land of DnB, Neurofunk, and Jungle. After that I was introduced into the depressing, dark, and nightcore genres thanks to an anime phase. Regardless of that weird time, Klippa's The Tree will forever hold a special place in my heart. I also joined the furry fandom around this time. I'm vaguely familiar with Hardstyle, Gabber, Terrorcore, and the like thanks to Halley Labs back when she was under the label Lapfox Trax, which branded off of being a furry electronic label. From there it was artists such as Renard, Emoticon, and TQBF that started to take over my library. TQBF led me to speedcore which lead to some wonderful parties in my Jr year in high school involving M1DY and Venetian Snares :v Only recently have I been digging back into Hardstyle because I have maybe 6 or 7 songs I really like and I need more in my life. Now as far as explaining the Bassy vs the Tweety, if you look up Wind of Vengence by Rapture and Lunatic, it starts off Tweety, and gets bassy at the 23 second mark. The bass is there for the first section, but it's very shallow, whereas it's VERY pronounced at the 23 second mark. That heavy THOM noise gets my blood going fast and evokes those memories of being a kid running through a smoke-filled room laser rifle in hand. HeadXplit by Rotteen is a good example of the tempo I'm after while Wind of Vengence is the kind of lows I enjoy hearing. Fast Bass.

I miss when a song could have just a couple of good bassdrums instead of the ADHD-bassdrum idiocy we often hear in songs today. It's like producers are getting a bonus for every bassdrum they put in a song or something.
