You definitely boiled it down to pure essence. I’m a 4 and it’s a very big deal to me. I was talked out of heading in the direction of my fire burning inside dream. My Dad had done it to himself and talked my brother out of it. It is a core principal to me to allow my kids to head toward their greatest dreams. That choice can involve the concept of the starving artist. They can choose. I couldn’t stay going against what I love.

The 6 makes a lot of sense to me. My reliance on externalities, my constant changing course, the inner restless, ceaseless seeking, it made me feel like maybe im not an INFJ after all. The fact that im constantly trying vastly new things - in the span of two years i can be a construction worker, a daycare teacher, a musician, a tree planter. I have no sense of what might be suitable for me until i try it. It even shows up in type of person i date or am attracted to. But i wondered if maybe im an extraverted intuitive because i am driven to try so mnay different things. Its only when examining the reason behind it, that i actually discover the truth. Actually i have embraced a complete lack of identity. I will continue to try things and experiment in life. Buying a house and settling down a bit has helped because my house reflects my identity and makes me feel grounded in something. But now when i leave my house or go travelling i unravel a bit.

I'm glad you compared 4 and 6. I definitely feel more like the 4 in life. That is a big distinction between the two. And the way it all folds into the INFJ type, I think, makes it harder for people to figure it out for themselves. I've always been dissatisfied with my "jobs" because they could never help me express who I feel I truly am. Of course, I've had identity crises, but in general, I do know who I am.

Thank you for doing this. You put into words the things i vaguely knew about myself but didn’t know how to communicate or delve into further. There’s no doubt I’m a 6. I don’t have enough faith in my ideas all by myself. I’m constantly dependant on people as points of reference. It’s a good thing I have supportive parents.

wow this is the best explanation of 6 i've seen. As an infp 6 i think my identity is a lot more solid than water but definitely uncertain and i'm always doubting. I think my inferior Te is very coupled to how the outside world sees me and my Te and Si are always referencing other works and agreeing or rejecting them. It's interesting how an INFJ 6 might be more looking at tradition, seeing that Si and Te are last slot.
@juice_lime5114
@juice_lime5114 2 жыл бұрын
This was a personal deduction through observation: INFP 6s can be quite unstable internally, which is against their cognitive stack. That's likely because they have grown up in a heavy Si and Te environment, which drowned out their Fi and Ne in order to comform. They can be very indecisive about their sense of identity yet constantly pushed by Fi to introspect, thinking that there's always a gap within. This variant has to watch out for Fi-Si loops. A typical INFJ won't turn their backs on tradition with Fe, but struggle to identify with it due to the lack of Te and Si. Some might even criticise how traditions are abused to exert control over others (I sometimes do, annoyed of global interacial conflicts). For 6s, things might be mellowed slightly from that. If they are accepting a tradition, they are often connected by the underlying essence, rather than for the sake of the practice itself. That's because they have identified the essence through experiencing it directly, Ti-Se.

Definitely have dealt with the whole back and forth between environment and self. This leads me to the question on how to stem confidence from the cycle since that cycle can make one extremely vulnerable

I don’t know if I’m a 4 or a 6 still, which leads me to lean towards a 6. I can say that at one point I felt I was much more extroverted and less guarded, once I reached adulthood I grew much colder. That seems fluid to me. I’m glad for this part of KZbin for sure.

I ended up not commenting on the last video but exactly that sentence (and idea) you picked back up really was enlightning to me. Whereas I have been certain on being infj for the longest time, I was never able to really come to terms with an enneagram type. Back in the day 6 instantly seemed the most likely just because of social anxiety and stuff. Yet I am very much a loner so that seemed odd. Then considering all combinations of subtypes etc I still couldn't find an answer to be confident in at all. I fell like the more time I put into researching it the less certain and overwhelmed I got. In the end I was most comfortable with tritypes like 461, 641, 469, 649 or maybe even 468/648. With your video in mind tritypes including 4 and 6 seem to be contradictory or would that mean experiencing both struggles at the same time to varying degrees? Assuming one considers tritype in the first place. Long story short I definitely can identify and make perfect sense of 6 for me now. Also the explanation of yours towards the end of this video putting 6 in relation to society/environment really helped me make sense of that dynamic. I guess going hermit mode can be a direct result of being so susceptible to environmental influence and doesn't have to be in conflict with 6 after all. Thanks for the great insights!

Hello Ren, Being INFJ and playing some 1, I can definitely relate to some of this 6 deep dive content (thanks for your thought btw!), making me doubting again of my type - until some descriptions didn't quite fit (...and remembering my inferior Ti, and my tendancy to over-agree with others' opinions Fe, until I sort it out..). As enneatype 1, I also am searching (a big hell) around this question of Identity - who am I deeply, dans quelle étagère etc. - and constantly referring to the external world to compare myself to it, finding some human habits quite strange sometimes, but still trying to kind of fitting.. just to fit, and don't seem too weird. (Except if the environment is so bad/mediocre and/or at 180° to my own values, I will only try to arrange it a bit, slighly improve it, and not put it fire 😅). This question of limits, testing of those limits, going outside the frame and back, though, is quite central. I feel not completely inside that frame - go out and in again, stretch this frame - but needing it. Is this a difference vs. your INFJ 6, always questioning what would be the best truth? The other difference is what I said: I'll try improving the frame, but not trouble-shoot (I sometimes can be blind/unconscious of the potential dangers). A video differentiating INFJs T6 and T1 would be very welcome too! 😆

Thanks so much for this insightful deep dive Ren! Loved it. I’m tempted to embrace type 6 as an INFJ but can’t quite relinquish my grip on type 4. I’ve certainly looked to externalities a lot throughout my life, to reject or embrace or to seek support / feedback for creative ideas and endeavours. I could be doing this right now - do I reject or embrace the central tendencies you posit?? Do your explanations help me express my authentic self? Gosh, the perplexing similarities between the two types - and the fundamental differences - have put me in a spin! Ha! I will re-listen to your video with a fine-tooth comb! Hope you’ll continue on this fascinating theme perhaps with more examples or tell us your personal story of re-evaluation and revelation (or vice versa!). Thanks again! Lil

I have not dived deeply into the enneagram, but the little that I have been able to decipher points to being a six with a five wing with maybe a little nine thrown in for good measure. What I gleaned from your theory is maybe that's why we are such people- pleasers especially when we are young and inexperienced in life. The need to have outside forces tell us if we are on the right track can be a constant. I agree; I've spent a lot of my early years searching for my niche, trying out different modi -operandi somehow never really getting them to stick. At this point I think I kind of know for sure, well as sure as I can be for now. I agree with the fluidity of the six. We try to simply morph into what we need to be in whatever situation we're in. Interesting topic. I'm not sure how much I will explore it on my own, but I'll be waiting to see what else you have to say about it. Love that you brought up the skeptical aspect of the six. Seems to jive well. Thanks. Took one of the online tests again and I'm a nine that disintegrates into a six when unhealthy. Seemed pretty accurate. Interesting!

That's the reason why 9s and 6s can be very hard to differentiate, if not reflecting based on the self-perception of your own reality. Once you notice that you can't stick onto a decision due to external viewpoints (9) or internal uncertainties (6), it's likely that you have either one of these or even both as strong components. Have to thank the Tritype creator for clarifying that. But yea, its great that you are finding out more of yourself.

@@notthatvashti8127 The Tritype theory was created by a practioner Katherine Fauvre. Her model is more complicated than the original, but better addresses the common prevalence of multiple type traits within individuals by grouping into "tritypes". Her system of accessment is also slightly different from typical personality tests. Overall, it's abit like an advanced version.

Took me a long time to find out what enneagram I am. I have this constant curiosity of knowing new stuff yet lack some confidence in knowing who I am and asserting myself. But since the former prevails, I've figured I'm a 5w6. Living true to myself is meaningful to me, but never as much as for 4 types. Observing the world is so much more fun!

Have you looked into Beatrice Chestnut’s work on the Enneagram? She has shone a strong light upon the three subtypes in Enneagram Theory one of which is the countertype. Speaking personally, I “finally” discovered that I am an Enneagram 4, self preservationist instinctual subtype which is the countertype for the Four. Knowing this made me more comfortable in admitting that I am a Four.

Ren, can you do a comparison between INFJ 2 and INFJ 6... because a lot of INFJ SP6 are mistyped as a two. I bet there are quite a few INFJ SP6 out there, and the SP6 is very different than the SX6 or SO6.... I think I am a INFJ 6 SP/SX... meaning that I come off like a two (which is very Fe).... but the motive is more related to overall inclusiveness and security and support (Not the normal two - to be loved and get others to depend on me).... and then the SX is where the boldness can come in... when once in a while I am super direct and sort of shock people.... what do you think of this :) I think I am a 6w5 (can you tell with all the analysis)

very insightful, thanks. So do you have any advice about how an INFJ type 6 could start taking more confidence in his/her own identity ?(which could be viewed as liquid and overly adaptative before being able to make their sense of identity as I understand from what you said, they need to confront themselves to the environment to form their sense of self) But is it possible once the INFJ is aware of his/her type 6 and face his/her fears to decide to withdraw power from the environment and start building astronger sense of identity based on the experience he has gained over the years and through confronting towards the external. Or is it always gonna be this way? Cos there is no way to feel better if there is no less power given to the external to shape a more defined sense of identity.... or is there another way I'm not identifying here? I feel that many type 6 are people recovering from traumatic situations from childhood, which often makes the identity more malleable even though the core is in reality intact when they withdraw

Interesting, it filled up some gaps in the personal understanding. So far from what I could perceive, 6s preferrably back themselves up with the external (So instinct), and 4s with the comfort of shaping their life around self-expression (Sx instinct), and 5s wanting to be prepared by understanding (Sp instinct). Other instinctual alignments can happen with each type, but there's degrees of psychological instability. That shapeshifting nature of a 6 though, can also manifest with an unhealthy nine. Have to agree with the confidence of ideas. There was a solid idea to begin with 4s and 5s, just wanting to be filled with appropriate details to be presented in a tangible manner. Something more like "there's an endpoint", just wondering "how to reach it". Could guess for 6s, it would be: "How would the end point look like?" There was also I trend I had noticed with 4s, 5s, and 6s utilising intellect. 4s use it abit like a refinement, similar to a Decorator Crab? 5s use them as tools to potentially pick systems apart or recreate them. 6s (particularly 6w5) are often the ones clarifying and reviewing the meaning behind them. They tend to preserve the movement of an objective the best though.

Well, I didn't expect that the thought "I should be an en 6" will come in my head. I was sure I'm en 4w5, but something was wrong. Instincts variants helped me, like there are only 3 choices and they come from the very guts, so I stopped analysing my thoughts and payed attention to my reactions. I thought that Sx stuff seems cool, but I'm too much scared and suspicious to behave like sx. So, sp/sx is the most suitable. Later I found that I'm very concerned about my physical and mental comfort, safety. I don't really trust people, so I overanalyze them. In edition my favorite characters and celebrities are usually en 6 and there are no en4 among them at all. When I found enneagram i thought that being closer to en 7 is super healthy for me, but I didn't know why. So I should be 6w5. This thought where flying around me and I feel like this the puzzle is being assembled. Ugh, this is super hurd to analyse yourself when your an infj, but videos like this help me, thank you)

I have no doubt I’m a six but have felt the weight of that by taking on the finances myself. I would much rather get up on a mountain and stare at the beauty below than get up on a financial cliff and stare at the unknown future. The mountain experience is far more controlled than people think. You are subject to things happening but the gear, properly maintained and stored, is strong enough to hold a small vehicle if you really had to. The problems that can happen are generally about human error.

Hi Ren, thank you for this video.... I have been trying to find out what enneagram I am. So I did a test and came up with a very strong 2 and 4... and small 6, but indicated that I was probably a 6. I wonder if I can send you my enneagram chart and get your opinion. The way you describe it, sounds like this is what I am... but I don't think it always shows on tests... so you have to read between the lines.

What makes an infj rare based on mbti view is that that infj is type 1 "the idealist" But since not all infj are 1 , they can't be typed infj without mentioning their enneagram because they are not 1s and they are common . The thing with this mbti is just pathetic statistics which make no sense . Because the same cognitive functions can be differently developped , this opens the door for so many possibilities . So when we want to typr somebody , we must go through details . Enneagram is a reflection of the degree of developpent of cf and the way their user is using them "it's complicated" So i don't understand when people say i'm infj* like what do you mean ? For example if we compare an istj/intj 1w9 they can look like infj 1w9 from the mbti description much more than an infj 6 And this infj 6 can look like any other type with ennea 6 Hope people stop typing people based on mbti .
