Type 6 Panel on day three of the Enneagram Panel Workshop Series (Types 5, 6 & 7) with Beatrice Chestnut and host, Michael Lerner
Enneagram is an archetypal depth psychology. It has enormous power to deepen our insight into ourselves and others. As a follow-up to our last TNS conversation with author and enneagram expert Beatrice Chestnut, we’re offering a three-part series of workshops to explore enneagram further in depth. Each workshop will feature a three- to five-person panel of enneagram “types”.

I relate so much, especially to Noah. I used to think i was laid back..LOL. Also the dichotomies, seeing all angles, unable to pin down and everything "depends". Regarding distrust of others, i usually worry that I'm naive, because i can be fairly trusting in ways..but i think deep down it's a distrust of myself and my own judgement. Great panel.

My biggest fear has always been insanity too. I literally forgot that because I've gotten so into the enneagram that I've been thinking "oh my biggest fear is being unsafe or not having support" but when he said that it hit me like a freight train. Edited to add i really relate to Noah: the fact that i believe in chaos and nothing is comforting to me and confuses the hell out of most people

I believe I’m a social six. Wow. This was like a look inside my head! When Noah spoke about his answers varying depending on the circumstances, I knew exactly what he meant. When people ask if I’m a glass half full or a glass half empty kind of person, my answer has always been, “I depends, if it’s being filled up, it’s half full. If someone’s been drinking it, it’s half empty.” I thought this was a logical approach, but maybe I’m wrong. 😂

I am a self preservation 5 with sexual 6 wing. The way the guy describes literally envisioning possible, often dangerous outcomes in an instant flash of insight is spot on and really centers these people within an intuitive process that is usually extremely accurate. The deep need as a 5 to protect sovereignty with an intuitive, sexual 6 wing makes for an aggressive protectionist who subconsciously amasses data with predictive outcomes resulting in jokingly "psychic" ability at times and who can largely instantly read people without knowing them first but who is also capable of becoming irrationally paranoid and untethered during times of duress. Sort of blown away, actually and enjoy that the Enneagram is more dynamical than other rigid personality type exploration into features of the self.

I'm late to the party. No one will probably read this but anyway, the sixes I know love scary movies. As a four, I always wondered what the heck that was about because I sit there and watch them and think, "What's the point of this?" But it occurred to me that sixes like scary movies because it lets them feel like they're dealing with their fears in a safe way. I said this to a six once and they actually agreed with me.

This by far has been the most engaging group that I have heard. Thank you so much. As much as can relate to many things said, your willingness to share confirmed I am most likely 5w6. For example when reading about the six' need for stability and security, I had in mind that this was referring to economic stability/security, not security in the literal sense. After hearing the panel point this out so eloquently, it made me realize my focus on limited resources. Excellent Panel!

This is so helpful for me as a social 9 wing 1 who goes to 6 in stress. I have recently began dating a 6 and am learning so much by hearing each perspective and why he is always questioning me and preparing for the next move as if we are playing chess. He is always ready to take action, while I am fantasizing about my next opportunity to get to my peaceful, happy place and nap if possible. This helps me to give grace to him and he is listening to 9 podcasts which helps him to understand and step back when necessary. He is learning not to push me because I am the stubborn 9 who will dig my heels in like a mule. haha

As a law enforcement officer of 28 years, this explains why I have always found it easy to play the "What if..." game, why I don't get startled, I am calm in situations, and I so easily expect the worst out of those I deal with. It also explains why my ex has labelled me a "chameleon, narcissist, and hypocrit." Maybe I was uniquely suited to this career. Not so much to marriage!

I can relate to a lot of this but I tend to trust more often and I don’t know that I am consistently calm in a crisis or always prepare or pay attention to everything. I do some of that but not like this panel. I also don’t often worry if trust didn’t work it it’s more on the other person.

Self-preservation six is more of a feeler because their protection is their bond with people. I’m either a 3 or a 6 I don’t know! I don’t like either can’t I be a 9? Lol

Be really healthy or unhealhy, depending on which is your actual number? :P I have 6 and 9 in a tritype, so acting assertive is a real minefield for me. I either bypass my inhibitions and finally get the shit done feeling uplifted (which doesn't last long anyway, since not all of us build to be someone else forever), or fail miserably at it with some trappings of an unhealthy 3.

You can really see Jens anxiety. She over explains everything, and has this inner over stimulated energy that shes trying to contain.

@@paisleyprincess7996 Good point. Since I am a 6, I could relate to the other 6's on the panel, but not the lady in the middle. Maybe the reason is that she is an 8. Her demeanor kind of gives me the creeps. She even tell her husband he's not allowed to have chick-fil-a.

@@Sexxxyism She tells her man he can’t have Chick Fil le. Him actually abiding by her gives ME the creeps. I’m an 8, and I have that same energy…Like fast energy.

She's probably just type 6 one on one subtype since it's the countertype and commonly mistyped as an 8. And Chic Fil A is fast food. She also said she and her husband were both recovering. Given that he's male with alcohol abuse history he's already at higher risk of heart problems, which fast food isn't good for. So I didn't see her comment on him as controlling so much as just helping keeping him accountable, like an accountabilabuddy 🤷‍♀️
