@Nitidus Жыл бұрын
@@desireesmith862Well, it's surely possible. But you possibly underestimate how much something like this costs. A remake is not about updating old stuff but recreating everything in a modern, more complex way from scratch. Of course it's more like an obscure indie game (and I haven't played it), but even the base game seems to have cost €100,000. A really well done remake can easily cost half a million euros. Now find someone who would actually fund this, especially in a less predatory way like the original funding body.

It's been mostly difficult to ID the body because the 15yr body only exist as the male version nowadays, the girl one was discontinued years ago and pictures are rare and blurry. I remember back in 2015 when I first heard about the path and was looking up analysis the girl I was watching talked about how she was unsure how the game played, and ending up spending a solid 5 hours with Robin as a result. She grew greatly attached to her as if she was her own daughter, and when she finally stumbled her way to her ending it devastated her. I think that's a testament to both how good the character writing was for the girls and how powerful games as a medium can be.

Yeah it’s really depressing seeing huge industries and platforms for artistic products being ruined by industries wanting profit rather than quality It’s really sad to see with the gaming scene being based on releasing your game early and fixing it later, needing a battle pass/dlc to make your game last more than 2 seconds and animation using ai to mash random assets together and calling it a day in order to treat artists worse even when they already treat them horribly It’s depressing and so dystopian I really hope the art industry has some kind of a change or at least have indie companies become popular enough to rival big names

I don't know how many people will read this but I just wanted to add: I've watched Serial Experiments Lain. Its a pretty obscure and sort of avant-garde cyberpunk anime made around the same time as things like Perfect Blue and Neon Genisis Evangelion. it's a pretty confusing plot for people who might me more into things being explained for them, but it still gets speculated to this day. A lot of themes involve ideas of the impact of the internet intertwining with our society (online shopping, hackers, kids getting sucked into rabbit holes while just trying to play video games, etc), innocence vs maturity, self-identity, and sort of the idea of achieving godhood or immortality through means of technology. Its online on a lot of those random Anime Hosting websites, I'm working on downloading episodes for archiving, but I encourage everyone to watch it. I think its really good and it pretty much accurately predicted our modern day internet all the way back in 1997-1999. Since we all love The Path and obscure little things like this, I was smiling and clapping my hands all giddy when it was shown how Serial Experiments Lain helped inspire Rose Red :D

i think talking about the path in relation to preserving media is perfect in timing with the recent events of cookies bustle. it’s a point and click japanese game from 1999 that was lost, rediscovered, then lost again due to unknown reasons of someone copyright striking anything that talks abt it. of course, i don’t think it’s the right time to make a video about it, but there is a lot of depth to the game! i highly recommend taking a look into it!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Izzy must have a feed straight from my brain. For the past couple of weeks I've been watching her original The Path vid almost daily, and was really wanting her to cover more horror stuff. This is pretty much a dream come true

I kinda like the way this game will eventually die out, albeit slowly. It feels like the natural progression for a game about life.

I found this game through a cinnamontoastken playthrough. It must've been around 10 years ago now when I was around 10 or 11. The game was so striking to me, I never forgot it. It's sad to me that this game will be unplayable and lost because it's stuck with me for half my life now.

I got a signed poster of Robin way back when I was in high school, it's behind a protective sheet of plastic still in my childhood room! I still remember I used to go on their official forum and endlessly speculate about all the characters and all the symbols in the game, it must have amounted to hours upon hours haha. That game company changed my life, their ideas about the possibility and artistic potential of games really opened my mind! I really appreciate you documenting all of this, never would have thought their art and legacy would be so easily lost, so sad to see.

I’m so glad to hear your passion for this game bc I stumbled on the game by chance in a since deleted playthrough on a gaming channel about a decade ago (I still call the girl in white Darla as the player did) and it’s never left me how truly amazing the direction of the game is. It’s artistic depictions are fascinating and beautiful, so open to interpretation that almost any view can be correct. It’s a milestone in video games as art.

Izzy this essay is wonderful! I love the way you have structured it, it's really easy to follow. As a historian who reads a lot of articles and essays, this is honestly just so nicely crafted. It will be so easy for historians in the future to find the information in this video. Good job! This is just a suggestion, but dividing this one into chapters would make it super accessible :)

The Path. Hooboy. I remember when this one came out and a number of people into the artsy side of gaming were pretty fed up with ToT by that time. At least in the circles I was in. They tended to approach gaming with an artistic savior's complex rather than being genuinely interested in expressions of their own.

I think an upgrade and rerelease of The Path would do really great now a days, I hope ToT consider it.

i love these videos so much, i've been insanely fixated on this game pretty much since you made your first video that introduced me to it, so thank you sm i suppose :,) the path literally means everything to me and i would never have discovered it otherwise, i genuinely can't believe it hasn't taken off as a topic of discussion on the greater internet yet, there's so much to analyze you'd really think some other creators would've latched onto it by now anyways great stuff love the path i hope you talk about it again at some point :]

It's been ages since I played _The Path._ Very sad to see that it's dying. It was such a unique experience. Even now, it feels like the hazy memory of a strange, tragic dream. I'm lucky to have played it early, and I'll try to get it working again for another run through the woods. Still need to finish collecting all those dang flowers. If nothing else, I have lovely screenshots on my Steam account to document it. Thanks for all your hard work on this essay. I sincerely do applaud your efforts at internet preservation.

With folks today doing reconstructions of various historical clothing, tools, paintings etc. just for fun, I can totally imagine someone in the future reverse engineering a computer, engine and programs needed to remake pieces of lost media as "historically accurate" as possible

I adore that you cover these obscure games and other topics, I remember I found the Path so fascinating when I first played it back in the day. It was such a treat seeing all the behind the scenes work you dug up! I would love to see a video about the other Tale of Tales game, 8, that you mentioned! Keep up the good work, I love everything you put out

Fun fact, I’d been lurking for a long time before that, but your original Path video was the video that convinced me to subscribe! I love deep dive videos into almost anything but the writing for that video’s script was SUPER well done, made me feel like I was almost part of that world 🌲

I'd love it if you made a video for the livejournal pages! Honestly, I didn't really know about this game and usually listen to your videos more than watching but the path was the one video that i had to actually sit down and watch because the art and aesthetic was so beautiful. More The Path videos would certainly be welcomed!

Since I’ve also been obsessed with The Path ever since I stumbled across the game when I was 11, it’s so surreal to hear Izzzy and a bunch of other people in the comments reveal that they’ve been obsessed with the game since their childhoods! This game largely influenced my taste in art (along with other artsy indie horror titles like Yume Nikki), and I often still replay it from time to time. With how historically significant The Path is, it’s incredibly sad to hear that the game may become unplayable in the future. But, I also have hope that even if the creators are unable to get it running again, fans of the game will make sure it stays alive (and I have more hope now that I’ve seen so many people here who have had a similar formative experience with the game)!

Archiving and preserving internet history is something I’ve seen a lot lately and it makes me very happy. At this point the internet is so entwined with the daily lives of most people that internet history is really just part of human history, and it’s preservation should be taken seriously. Unfortunately the statement used to scare people into behaving, “what you put out on the internet is there forever!”, just isn’t true. And it’s been rough watching a lot of things from the internet in my childhood be lost, maybe only existing on the original creator’s obsolete computer, and only living on in our memories and storytelling. Keep up the fantastic work.

Aside from how hauntingly beautiful this game was, the path dev blog was full of interesting content. The devs would post about movies, art, and music that inspired several elements of the game. It was a gateway for my then teenaged brain. Definitely a modern folk horror piece that deserves an update.

im so happy youve made another video on this game; your first video about it is honestly my favorite of your videos overall, its such an interesting game and im heartbroken it wasnt recieved well in its time, but i wouldnt have thought twice about it if i saw it outside of the context of how it is interpreted like your video showed. your impact on me via your presentation of this game is wild

I bought The Path because of your first video and ranted about it to my classmates at the game art college I go to. It's such a curious game that would be such a shame to lose to the endless malevolent Microsoft updates that have already been the bane of my existence for years. I love to see more content about The Path from you and I love your videos in general :3 Also off topic but your make-up and overall outfits are always so goals, my personal favourite is that one that kinda resembles some kind of creepypasta (last time you had it in the webkinz killer vid), it's so *chef's kiss*
