I know this vid is over three years old, but I've been watching this series for a minute now. Love it. I finally moved beyond the square box and sleeping bag builds a couple of months ago because of you, Draco, Norespawns, and Sardeliac. I'm nowhere near y'all in levels, though. I love the building even if I am terrible at it. I might restart my character...again...just to redo stuff because I have way too much to correct at some of my outposts in the game.

Loved your comment about square box and sleeping bag builds. It's SO RELATABLE😆 Your whole comment was relatable, and I've got a few settlements that are completely off the rails in terms of size to chaos ratio. I'm still working through my sb/sb phase. Not quite there yet, but your comment made me feel not so alone or dumb lol. And thanks for the references to other KZbin who helped! I'm soooo late to the game here, but your videos are too good not to say thank you. Your videos are STILL helping noobs like me 4 years down the road. You're breaking my brain (in a GOOD way) and you are probably the top reason I'm still playing, still trying, and loving it. I'll be real with you tho... sometimes I still wanna tear my hair out and take a nuka nuke launcher to everything I just tried to build, but your videos help me work through that urge and see where I missed the mark so I can try again and do better next time. And who knows, maybe one day I'll graduate from square boxes and sleeping bags to square boxes with TWO whole floors AND lighting AND maybe even some decorations. It really helps that you break down the reasons these things work so I can apply them more effectively rather than just attempting to copy what you're doing and crossing my fingers while hoping for the best. Sorry so long. I hate posting thoughts on the internet, so I put a bunch of comments into one and just hope that one day you'll see it and feel proud and encouraged about what you've created here. A nerdy gamer mom thanks you.

Well put. And it's never too late with this game because of the building element. Makes it an unlimited legacy game. And thanks for the kind comments. Yes, my videos are precisely intended to end the frustration. Bethesda added the building element as a last minute bonus not realizing it would be so popular. So there are a lot of things they can improve upon in the next game. Cheers!

Just found this series and it is giving me a new inspiration to play FO4. One thing you may or may not know is on PC we have access to console commands, pressing the "Tilde" key ~ opens a menu, in which we can tell the game what we want. The reason I mention this is because with it we can actually turn off clipping altogether using the code "tcl" then enter it again to turn it back on. The biggest draw back of using this is it also turn off collision for your character and you can walk through walls or even the ground itself, although it is useful for not needing the "rug glitch", the rug "Glitch" seems to be more efficient.

Your 'lessons' are at the very top of the Instructional Genre for quality; planned, prepared, clear, succinct, enjoyable and, most importantly, informative. The explanation of the science behind the game graphics was most useful - the 'why' as well as the 'how'; if you haven't been trained as an educator, you are a natural teacher. I know Fallout 4 is years old now; maybe your won't even see this comment, but regardless, I have to say "well done"! I'll be looking at many more of your lessons. Thanks.

You are correct in general terms regarding Clipping. It is, simply, any surface that could be rendered but isn't - either by design or through error. The best example being the design of game engines clipping every surface that is not facing the player, so that the game can be played at all. Without that type of clipping, no computer on the market today would allow you to play the game beyond leaving the vault. The processing requirements to render all sides of every tree and rock and blade of grass would just be too much. I should point out though, clipping and collision are not inherently related. I could make a spherical object mesh, texture it so that half is visible and half is not, and have an example of clipping within that mesh once it is in the game environment. But I could apply a Box collision to it 3x its height above or below it, just as easily as making a spherical collision that occupies the same space as the mesh. I would note that this is a trivial point, and has few examples, but it is actually an important aspect of a lot of games - where hitting the 'right spot' on a target is vital, etc.

But now that I've watched it in slow-mo I'll have to try it in difficult building locations like Ten Pines and Coastal Cottage. I'm not sure if you know this already but when doing the rug glitch I use 2 rugs. When I get the item in place I store the rug farthest from the object, it drops down, then I store the rug closest to the object and it auto corrects to the right height. This works 80% of the time. Sometimes it does fall through the floor though. :)

You can avoid the object sinking into the ground sometimes by not placing it directly on the rug. If you place the rug near the object and hold down the select button or key it will highlight and pick up both things. Then you place the rug and when you store/scrap the rug the object doesn't sink.

A lot of the techniques I noticed builders are utilizing in their settlement building is in-game debugging workarounds and techniques. Basically, when Bethesda was doing internal testing of the settlement build system. The individuals involved most likely introduced variables in this manner so they could quickly work around the limitations of the game engine and build system as it currently was implemented, honestly the most likely wanted to implement that said veritable in its own tool or trigger; it's just rather difficult since this game is on multiple platforms, making external tools or modes user-friendly across every console. They could have pushed some type of PC patch that enables all of these advanced techniques, but as you can tell the mod community has solved that, I think that is why the mod creators were able to make those mods so fast.

Occlusion culling is a draw method that eliminates unseen polygons and objects behind obstructions, such as walls or trees to improve performance this isn't that at all you're just clipping one object into another you won't gain any performance doing this because the object is still loaded even if it isn't displayed, that said clipping an object through another object usually has no performance loss either unless they have complex transparency techniques applied to them, such as transparency anti-aliasing on spell effects but it can cause Z-fighting on some flat surfaces where small parts of one texture clip through another and they flash or shimmer as you move around them. and yes it's perfectly safe technically speaking, but it can look ugly if done wrong!

I have noticed that some of the objects that have unexpectedly large collision boxes, particularly on the back, are objects that are interactive in some way. That trash bin, for example, but also file cabinets and Nuka Cola machines. At least the bin and the vending machine have small animations they perform, such as the small glass door in the cola machine opening. However, these animations happen at the front of the object, not the back. It would make more sense for them to have an "empty space" in front rather than in the back, but you can usually place them with the front flush with a wall. I have no idea why this is, unless it is a mistake that the developers haven't fixed. If it is a deliberate effect, I have no clue why.

Haha, thanks Ethan. In today's KZbin climate, I'll take that as a badge of honor. ;-) Let's hope it stays that way.

Unfortunately I had to rewatch this video again. I have been frustrated recently with this glitch. Example placing a vendor along with a pillar glitch. With or without the pillar I click on the rug and it just come out from under the item. Use two rugs, put on highest rug, have the jump point, and make sure rug is over hanging a curb (etc) and grrr.

5:40 the leaving and returning used to work perfectly but one of the patches ruined it. I don't remember which patch number it was though.

firstly let me say a big THANK YOU your classes are very informative, but let me ask ,why have i no concrete building materials, and other such items in my workshop, i only seem to have wood and metal,, is this because i am low level ?? ( 15 ) at the moment,, thanks for any advise,,keep up the great work..

Glad you're enjoying the lessons. You're probably missing the DLC. I use everything that comes with the _Game of the Year_ edition in my videos.
@BillyBob-xr8hq4 жыл бұрын
@@SkooledZone I do apologise but you are speaking to a TOTAL novice, whats a DLC?? do i have to upgrade the game some how?? regards.
@SkooledZone4 жыл бұрын
@@BillyBob-xr8hq No worries. DLC means downloadable content. They are official add-ons that come out after the game is released. Usually _Game of the Year_ editions of a game come out a year after the original and contain all the add-ons. For Fallout 4, there were 6 add-ons: fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Fallout_4_add-ons ...You can buy them individually from Bethesda but it might just be cheaper to go to your local game store and buy a used copy of the _Game of the Year_ edition. The DLCs contain all kinds of new building elements if you like building in the game. Hope that helps!

Will you talk about lag and crash fixes? Cuz my Xbox one S seems to be crashing CONSTANTLY in downtown Boston, and when it isn't crashing, it's just single digit FPS which is VERY annoying considering how powerful the console is
@Kitty-Marks7 жыл бұрын
TheGamingBiscuit Sadly that is a vanilla problem and is really only fixable via a mod but I'm working on trying to get a modder to remove alot of the trash piles and flat trash decals on the worst areas of Boston which are between Haymarket Mall and Goodneigbor. I used a mod to manually scrap the trash and such which cleaned up my lag crashes 100% but if someone can make a mod that removes it then alot of ppl could benefit from it including PS4 users.
