A Deep Dive on the 2024-25 San Jose Sharks

I think our top 6 is very playable, our bottom 6 has a lot of options that could be serviceable, our defense has Walman, Ferraro, Shakir and Emberson who are all probably middle pairing guys and then a ton of bottom pairing options, Vlasic is a legend but his legs don't have anything left in them. Goalies I actually think are solid. But this team is definitely a bottom 10 team and probably a bottom 5 team. It's a building year for these young guys and I think we lose a lot of high scoring, enjoyable games but it'll be a huge building year towards next season where I think if players develop like I think, the Sharks will be around a 80 point team in 2025-26 and then a contender for the foreseeable future afterwards

Even as a Sharks fan I'd rank the defense slightly lower, at least to start the year. Thrun and Emberson have potential to establish themselves as solid, albeit unspectacular, NHL blueliners, but since they haven't done that yet, D is fair. You do appear to be missing Benning, who actually figures to be their 3rd best dman, and is probably like a C-. Vlasic should be an F though, and Ruuta a D-. Shak may be a factor this year but of course he would be a "P" for now. Bottom line for the Sharks is they're completely dependent on what the young guys do. If we see positive steps from them, we'll see positive steps for the team. There will be a lot of losses this season, but how many and how bad, i honestly have no idea.

Benning I had as part of their depth and at a D. Vlasic is still a serviceable enough 3rd pair guy and if he didn’t have the stink of that contract on him people would probably look at him more favourably.

I don’t know why you are discrediting Logan Couture so much. He’s a much better player than you think

Not sure how I’m discrediting Logan Couture? He played 6 games last year and is 35 years old. I think that’s a legit concern

Shouldn't the coach be a Pass also since they fired Quinn. Ryan W is the youngest head coach with his first NHL head coach role.

A pass would've just been an F. I actually really like the hire so they get the boost from a D rating.

No question Mukhamadulin is making the team. Also no question Vlasic is not.

That wouldn’t shock me. But Vlasic gives them more of a boost rating wise and he’s who Daily Faceoff had so 🤷‍♀️

Vlasic probably gets a few odd games here and there, scratch mostly tho
