I bought my M4000D in 2017 and spent the next year experimenting with the 100 presets in high and low mode extensively and I'm in awe of the combination of all those sounds. I jumped on the grenade and bought sound cards 02-03-04-05-06 and I have been very busy with those gems. Nobody has yet to make a video to show the Mellotron sounds in "low" mode. Holy moly, that's a whole other beast of incredibly cool sounds. The tone knob can adjust the sound ± one fifth of an octave and the same ± one fifth of an octave in low mode, so all the tones in between can be tweaked and compensated for. It's a pretty impressive musical instrument all around. I'm a drummer that went on to teach myself how to play flute, piccolo, guitar, bass guitar, and mandolin, and have gotten chills while performing, but the Mellotron is the only instrument I ever played that has brought tears to my eyes. My only wish is that Marcus will someday come up with an 88 key Mellotron. In thanks to the 37 key M4000D is, I've gotten pretty good at playing reverse chords. I love my Mellotron and play it almost exclusively now because it has to much going on. 5 Stars for the M4000D......rock on.

I agree. I've owned a ton of analogue synths & at its lowest pitch, the mellotron m4000d sounds better than any of them. I play mine almost exclusively in the lowest pitch settings. So evocative, haunting & musical

Perhaps a laptop with Gforce Mtron Pro is easier...

I am not sure who is this product for.. yes it sounds majestic in the demos but a VST is just as good if not better. Digital is digital either way and the price difference is too much.

If you play live and don’t want to rely on a laptop then this is far more desirable.

I think its about more than simply "digital is digital"; there are issues around hardware implementation, DACs etc that all have an effect on the sound.

We love Mellotrons! We use a vintage 1972 M400 with 4 tape racks, 2 Mellotron Micro's, an M4000D with 5 Sound Cards, and we have used several different Mellotron App's with our iPad and iPhone. As we say, you can never have too much Mellotron! Check out our channel to hear some Mellotrons in action!

My KingKorg has few Mellotron-ish samples.

Mellotron is not the first sampler because it’s not a sampler but more a « rompleur ».

True, the Chamberlin and 15 years later or so the Mellotron instruments were the first sample playback instruments. 👍

This is cool, but I feel like you could buy a Nord electro and still get all the mellotron sounds and more. Electric pianos, Hammond organs, etc.

If you are interested in relatively brief no talking demos of all the sounds available in the Mellotron M4000D and all expansion cards I have a playlist titled "Mellotron Demos" on my KZbin channel you might like?
