Since I watched your Speech at TEDX I feel free from worries and fears of making mistakes in speaking French. And suddenly instead of feeling pressure of progressing I have a wonderful curiosity when each time I come across a word, in English or French, I don’t know, I look it up. I try to learn conjugation, which became interesting. I used to hate it because it seemed too difficult to retain. Thank you! I haven’t even received my FF book yet , which I ordered last week. Imagine what it will do to me :-) I will be fluent in French! I now believe it. I am listening to the de Gaulle press conference.

Gabriel, I'm half Hungarian and I was happy to hear your reasons for learning the language. It's not easy that's for sure but, like in my situation, on a personal level it feels rewarding since its part of who you are. Good luck and hopefully you're keeping it up.

It was so exciting for some reason when you spoke in Hungarian! I'm a native speaker (sorta. I learned Eng. and Hun. at the même temps) and your pronunciation sounded pretty good to me. I love your book "Fluent Forever" and I think your videos (especially for IPA) are great. Hungarian will get kinda rough when you get into deeper grammar topics but you are definitely capable :) You are so inspiring to me to keep learning languages. -Ash

I've met a few foreigners speaking Hungarian, but not one of them was close to convincing, even after years of learning. You, after just two months, are better than most of the people I know. I am for the first time, convinced you could master our language. One advice, speak with native Hungarians. The reason is the phrasing is sometimes not according to proper grammar in everyday speech.

I am an English speaker and I know conversational Spanish. I am just starting in Italian and I find it close enough to Spanish that I find myself occasionally reverting to a Spanish equivalent when looking at flashcards. Do you have an easy way to keep your languages separate before they come traipsing out of your mouth? ...frustrated

You gotta totally forget that you learnt Spanish. Kinda like acquiring a new identity long enough for Italian phonetics to sink in. Your Spanish will suffer as a result, but so be it; that's the price for becoming a polyglot in adult life.

Hi Gabriel, I'm the author of the Michel Thomas Hindi (a.k.a Urdu) and Michel Thomas Insider's French courses. It would be fun to have you do some Hindi, and exchange notes. I live in Paris, let's talk on Skype, you'll find me online. I see you've been learning French too for about 8 years. Let me know what you think of the "Insider's" series. Indeed, in the first lesson you can check out "manquer" that you used here. "Il me manquait 4 points" (in your French test) would be better, or "Il ne me manquait que 4 points", rather than 'J'ai manqué que de 4 points.' But of course if you miss, say, the first 5 minutes of a movie, you could say "J'ai manqué les 5 premières minutes du film." Or even "j'ai raté", in Insider's French (I even got the French actors to produce all the insider French noises French, from Pfffff (scoffing) to "Rhoooo !" (appalled, indignant), and "Prrrrrp" (God knows!). All best for your efforts at learning many more languages !

Fluency and accuracy are two different concepts... You can be fluent but still make mistakes. That's why linguists suggest language teachers to focus more on fluency first and accuracy later.

I really like your German, it's very natural. In your French, try to keep closed vowels as /o/ in aussi and /e/ in parlé really closed and tense, and try speaking with a stronger 'singing' intonation. Russian sounds very good too.
@musical_lolu48115 жыл бұрын
There's no such thing as a 'singing' intonation, you gotta be more specific with the phonological terms.

@musical_lolu48116 жыл бұрын
Not in the slightest. I suspect you hated school classes due to the focus being more on technical jargon than on in-the-wild language use. Look for ways to learn Spanish for actual use (a utilitarian approach) if that's your goal, rather than becoming a syntactician or something. Mucha suerte, hermano.

His French is not remotely a C1 (and I highly doubt it ever was) he is lacking VERY basic vocabulary and is difficult to understand because of this, you get the gist of what he is saying don't get me wrong but the mistakes cause confusion, 'je parle au moment' does not mean anything in the context in which he is speaking, you can say 'au moment de' but that basically means when and I think he is wanting to say now....'you can say 'en ce moment'' but that is more akin to 'at the moment" you have to say 'je parle actuellement' for now; at least I think that's what he wanted to say'). To not know how to say the word now in another language is pretty basic stuff .....the fact he even tried for a C2 displays an arrogance which is quite staggering, his actual level I would compare to my students just finishing high school, more like a low B1. He can just about hold a basic conversation. Seems like he learned French from Duolingo or something. Wonder if his other claims to languages are as over-exagerated.... Not to be unfair his accent on the other hand is OK, it's clearly english but that doesn't impede understanding. I bet he's making a mint of just being a slick saleman, . Welcome to the world of the superficial guys, nothing these days goes more than skin deep and every one is trying to sell you something. I would be ashamed to have that level in a language and say I was fully fluent.
