There are millions of us Americans who are infuriated by what we’ve become and millions more that feel helpless to change it. We know we can do better, but our leaders won’t lead when we really need them to. Alternatives to the status quo are derided as unrealistic pipe dreams in our media and those who wish to chart a better course are all too often denied a platform by the powers that be. Our politicians listen primarily to the wealthy and well connected who bankroll their election campaigns and not to the people who vote them in. There’s always money for another war, for fomenting a coup in a developing country, for fancy gadgets for the nerds in the military and for our spies, but never enough for healthcare, education, reliable transit, or combating poverty at home.
