This has been a small side project that I have been working on for the last couple months, but I am finally ready to say that it is finished! This is my own interpretation of the story, but it is highly possible that I have made some mistakes along the way. Please enable captions to help you follow the story! EDIT: Wow! This is now my most viewed video on my channel! I truly cannot thank you all enough! New video is up! Please go check it out! If you have any questions, please leave them down below! I did in fact make a few mistakes throughout this video, but nothing that would impact the overall story. I will quickly summarise them down below: There is a unknown "space sickness" mentioned in the A Moment Fractured log that seems to only affect the two brothers. This prevents the brothers from using ships/travelling through space without the Teleporters, which is why Mithrix never managed to leave the moon. The Devs have mentioned that it is NOT: Radiation, Extreme cold, Lack of oxygen, Basically anything that can be solved by having a spaceship/closed environment. It is best just to leave this as a plot device to explain why they can't use ships, as we do not have a confirmed reason as of yet, and nothing logical seems to be the reason. It is theorized that the gift that the unknown "Her" gave to Providence was a way of being unaffected by this sickness. Mithrix was not the ONLY person to make the lunar items, he actually had a lot of help from his followers, but he was the one to spread them. The "Greater Gate" Mithrix talks about in the Commencement Log is actually the arena you fight him in! There was also a teleporter somehow already on the CL, though they did bring more on board. There is actually a UES [REDACTED] which arrived at the planet sometime between RoR1 and 2. Not much is known about it, but we do know that REX was on that ship, not on the safe travels. They start in a drop pod purely due to gameplay. The bulwark portal was also altered by people on board this [REDACTED] ship. The Void Reavers aren't space police, they just take what they want to better themselves and become stronger. I also didn't mention that the void juice gets turned into the gems we see around the map. I said that the Artificer was looking for a way into a moment whole, but truly no-one knows how/why she was suspended. It seemed like the widely accepted theory at the time, but there isn't anything to suggest it. (thanks reddit 😒) Anything else I got "wrong" I usually say ""I theorize this is the reason" which basically means there is no confirmed information why. Hopefully this clears a few things up, and thanks for reading/watching!

I wonder if Providence knew how much Mithrix came to hate him as he stared at the moon, remembering Mtihrix's last words of only wanting him to smile again. One important detail about Mithrix is some of the text he says after you kill him. He has three(?) different lines where he calls out to Providence with his dying breath. Ex. "THE PLANE GROWS DARK... BROTHER... I CANNOT SEE YOU... WHERE ARE YOU...?" Yes, he hated Providence for his ideals and values. But even in the end, he was still his only brother.

It's interesting seeing both sides of the brothers' stories. At first, it's easy to write Providence off as "the good one," and Mithrix the bad, but they are really just two ways of looking at the same problem. What do you do with a destructive species that is doomed to wipe itself out? Providence's answer was to save them, because they have soul, but he did not save them for their sake. And, in the end, if they truly are doomed species, "planet killers" as Mithrix puts it, is saving them only delaying the inevitable? Mithrix's answer on the other hand, was to let natural selection play its course and to not interfere - but to seek others of their kind. This might be seen as selfish, but interfering with nature can have drastic consequences, even if one means well. What's interesting is that both brothers are selfish. As I said, you might think of Providence as the "good" one, but he is also selfish. Maybe not as much as his brother, but if the logs are to be believed, he only saved creatures with soul because he likes soul - not the creatures themselves, as evidenced by the Grovetender log. He ignores the very lives he saved, and spends most of his time staring at the moon, holding a grudge against Mithrix. It's almost... childish. Mithrix was right about one thing he said though, that, "together, there is no force or obstacle we cannot overcome." If only they had just worked together, embracing each other's differences instead of fighting over them, who knows what they could've done? Mithrix could have constructed entire worlds for the creatures Providence saved, while using the gates to find more of their own people. Threats like the imps could have been staved off by Mithrix's more... combat-oriented designs. Instead, they let their grudges control them, and both partook to doing things only to upset the other, never for any sort of benefit or larger purpose. Also, it's really funny imagining that Mithrix's most loyal servant, a Scavenger, just randomly picked up his beads one day for no reason - and Mithrix saw that as loyalty. That's hilarious to me. I wonder if he just sits in A Moment, Whole, wondering what he's doing there. Sitting alone because Providence murdered all the other bead-holders. I just imagine the Scavenger stumbling into the portal to A Moment, Fractured, by pure accident while holding the beads. Meanwhile Mithrix is thinking he's swayed a new follower to become his new servant... lmao.
@Kaxology
@Kaxology 2 жыл бұрын
While it is noted that either are "good guys", it is important to note that either ruling in absolute is not sustainable and both ruling together is maybe, too conflicting. Whoever made these two godlike beings should've taught them the errors of the past gods and how to avoid them, understanding that the necessary suffering and compromises that must be endured to achieve equilibrium, thus two personalities. It would seem that Providence is the younger brother who had gained compassion but do not understand the need for natural selection while Mithrix had gained ambition but do not understand the need for other life other than the ones equal or higher than himself, both of which is needed to create independent life. Perhaps it was the realization of past gods that creating such independent life would render them somewhat unwanted or neglected in the long term or even create life forms such as humans that can work together and rival the strength of gods such as themselves that will betray the gods. It is unknown if humans are known to invade planets to drain resources in this universe but maybe Providence had seen humans as invasive species like imps that would drain what he had created, believing us to be unreasonable or too smart to inevitably betray the gods. Perhaps it was lack of strength, too much compassion or just brotherly love that Providence chose to imprison Mithrix instead of killing him. His naive thought maybe when he saw Mithrix kill worms as a kid, he couldn't be reasoned with when perhaps a compromise would've been made if Providence simply tried to discuss it with Mithrix. When he started his own reign, he has quickly seen the problem of reviving every creature and not adhering to natural order. I think he started out liking the creatures but soon they grow too many, making altars of him and society capable of cruelty and disobedience that made him reevaluate what he'd done. I think perhaps him staring at the moon is him contemplating if he should release Mithrix, maybe Mithrix will forgive him and they can just be brothers again but at this point, he's too afraid but as we see, Mithrix's last thoughts were to talk to his brother again, signifying Mithrix still had love for his brother even after so long. If Providence admitted his mistake at the start and freed Mithrix, perhaps things would've been gone well but instead, Providence let Mithrix's hatred boil for far too long. I'm also pretty sure Scavengers decided to join Mithrix was on their own accord. After all, the beads promised riches and scavengers would have to find the portal and commit to a ritual that would otherwise kill them to swear loyalty.

I wonder if both did not see that they were just as wrong as the other. I never played the first RoR and I only experienced it through my friend and other videos about it on KZbin. So finding out that Providence was dead was a bit of a shock when I first heard of it. But then I also wonder if Mythrix new of his death. Because if he didn't then he stews in his own feelings of hatred. If he did know then he is complacent in my eyes. I know it's stated that he cannot exactly escape this prison but what point do we have in killing him if that's the case? I honestly think Mythrix is the weaker of the two which is why before he dies he resorts to self-destructing the Moon. In doing so he also dooms the planet however. But it seems fitting his hatred would end in a terrible calamity. I understand he saw every other being on the planet as lesser than himself. But that only amplifies my view of Mythrix being the worse of the two. For as far as Providence went he never destroyed planets as far as I understood. The whole thing is just puzzling.

The DLC adds a bit more lore with the logbook for Egocentrism where Mithrix talks more about how he should’ve gotten the gift, and that Providence loves the “vermin” more than him who took care of him. It also gives us more lore about the void. Any creature can be corrupted by the Void, but gains an insatiable desire to kill and consume so that its friends can be joined to the Void as well. The Void Fiend and the Railgunner were supposedly two people who went into the void and survived, and the void fiend was a commando who got corrupted. He fights within himself to either get rid of his powers or embrace them. Most void creatures serve the Voidling, a creature that resides deep within the void and that asks its servants to bring it “gifts”. This could be one of the purposes of the Reavers outside of simply being multiverse police. Not sure how it fits into the overall story, but the player character can go into the Void and kill the Voidling even after defeating Mithrix, so maybe the new DLC is an epilogue or an alternate ending after the defeat of Mithrix, in which the player character is captured by the Reavers but survives, and goes into the Void and kills the Voidling. However, since they are in the Void, they can never leave, which is why the ending after defeating the Voidling is still “fate unknown”

I've been feeling really down from all the bad games the industry has put out in recent years. Like, I couldn't find any good games that I could play consistently that would make me feel like I was achieving something. Risk of Rain 2 changed all of that, recommended by a hardcore fan of the series who is a friend of mine. It is one of the best games I have ever played, it is so good that it's just insane. I've only put about 50 or so hours in it because of a tight time schedule I got on my hands, but I'm gladly looking forward to putting at least 950 more hours in it. The lore of this game is very well hidden and it is difficult for me to understand with all.of the item logs and stuff. You sir did a wonderful job at getting out a lot of information and yet the video still felt very interesting. You've earned a subrscriber and I would love to learn more about all the item lore and all of the events that happened in between or parallel with the events of both games, like the Heretic, or Artificier etc. I'll be waiting patienly. I hope I've made your day.

The Aurelionite being said to might betray them makes a lot of sense, cause once you beat it and get its item, it turns the our side. Just got to that part in the video lol!

I liked to think that the Void enemies had always been after Mithrix and his creations. Mithrix, like the Newt, was one of the beings strong enough to keep the Void and its agents at bay. As soon as Mithrix was killed, the Reavers pounced upon the moon like vultures to take anything he left behind. I like this theory because it explains why the moon gets infested with Void Reavers as soon as Mithrix is dead, it emphasizes the creepy, watchful nature of the Void and it gives some perspective to what Mithrix truly is. Not just a physically potent body, but a vague presence of sheer power.

This is a FANTASTIC telling of the story, you do an amazing job of giving the dialogues found in the logs personality through your voice, and you explain everything quite well. This video was well worth my time, ik it's 2 years old and there's probably more to tell but this is an amazing story regardless.

I used to read these lore snippets and record them to play around with audio mixing and modulation effects. I've always wanted to do a video like this of my own, but I appreciate how thorough you were with all of it. This is a wonderful video, and the fact that you only have 5.5k subs is a travesty. You definitely deserve more. Nevertheless, you have my sub. I look forward to watching your other videos. Cheers for this, man.

Just found this video, and I have to say: incredible job, omg! I love lore videos, and I think you have done it just right. Just like lore in Dark Souls, when it is written in logs and items it can be difficult to put all of the pieces together, and you have done it wonderfully. This lore leaves me kind of melancholic... Mithrix seems to be the only "evil" to mess everything up, being labeled "ambitious". I wonder if the upcoming DLC will talk more about his reasonings and the creation of him and Providence. Thank you so much for your time and effort, I am subscribing and ready to watch the other videos. Keep up the good work!! :D Edit: Mithrix spelling

Found your videos in reverse order. You covered a lot of what I mentioned, due to me not knowing that you had an entire series on Risk of Rain. I've never played the original, but I had been previously spoiled on the ending anyway, and what I know of the lore of the series is entirely based on the second game's logbooks. The video covers basically everything important, and I'm really impressed at the quality! Hopefully you keep garnering attention from the community, since you definitely deserve it.

I've not played much of RoR1 myself, and I know many people in the community have never played it at all, so I tried to write it in a way where you could understand without ever playing the original. And, like you said, most of the useful lore was based in RoR2 anyway. Really cannot wait to see what the DLC brings to the table. Glad this video could help and thanks for watching!

I am an advocate and all-knower of the lore, and here is my contribution: Unguided theory, perhaps the Newt is the father, or creator, of the two brothers. Glass frogs, the Glass Newt. Watching them, writing the making the effigy (and thus its description) as he grieves for his sons, and, it would explain his resistance against the void reavers. And his great power, commanding time.

I LOVE the way you zoomed in on the Mass, Design, Blood, and Soul pillars. That added so much (at least for us actual ror2 players) Also, I kind of agree with Mithrix. Providence was screwing with the course of nature for his own benifit. Mithrix might have been ambitious, but he let nature be.

I've watched this video and the follow-up one probably three times at this point. This is a really impressive video 'project' and I hope you continue making lore / theory videos. Excellent voice acting and audio effects, with a greater music mix from the OST. My only big complaint is that the item and environment logs are too small and in the bottom left, making them hard to read.
