Regarding the "negative health" on the Alloy Worship Unit, it's due to the fact that the boss health displayed is stored as a signed 32 bit integer, while the actual health is stored as an unsigned integer. Unsigned 32 bit integers span from 0 and 4294967296, while signed 32 bit integers span from -2147483648 to 2147483648. The variable that represents the health of the Worship Unit is translated from an unsigned integer to a signed integer when it's displayed by the game. This is also likely what caused the odd behavior on Stage 444, as the value of Alloy Worship Unit's health surpassed the 32 bit limit, and the game crashed trying to handle such a large number.

Good, except for the part where the AWU’s health at that point would have easily exceeded even the unsigned integer number by that point. It’s more likely that the UI can only support 32 bit integers, but the health itself is tracked by something that can handle 64 bit integers, which can support numbers up to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807. A boss with that much health would absolutely crash your game.

The mired urn attacks everything, regardless of if it is friend or foe. It stacks off of base damage, by them dying like that your base damage was more than the 960hp (+288 per level) that the Beetle guards had. It is odd that they're instantly respawning as they're supposed to respawn every 30 seconds, not instantly

I have a thought on why the combat director doesn't spawn anything after a certain point. Maybe when the stages reach such a high point, the continuous director produces too many credits to spawn anything because it reaches the 32-bit integer limit before the time it takes to spawn something expires, meaning that it has negative credits to spawn something with, which is impossible. Just a small thought.

Ive heard its because the minimum amount of credits it can use per spawn goes up over time, seen by how at the end, only scavs would spawn, after that the minimum spawn threshold became higher than the most expensive mob, so it was no longer allowed to spawn any enemies.

It’s something like that. When the stage gets too high, Directors are given such an obnoxious amount of credits that there is no enemy that is in the range for it to spawn. Even Celestine or Malachite Scavengers are considered “too cheap” and so it doesn’t spawn them, leaving the game empty. The enemies like Alloy Worship Unit are scripted, spawned in by passing a trigger on the map or hitting a certain number of vulture eggs, and so they can spawn regardless of stage

sadly attack speed is hard capped by animation frames, so at most it would be 60 per second, but more likely 20-30 per second

Really great video! This dedication is absolutely insane. I just wanted to point out something quick at 20:00. Here, Mithrix becomes vulnerable before taking every last item you have. Despite everything else around you not functioning as properly, this vulnerability actually seems to be an intended mechanic based on what I've seen, and is consistent between longer runs that last past the second loop or so. When taking your items, he starts out by using the "channel," where he summons that orb above his head and all the items go into. However, after 10 seconds or so he becomes vulnerable again, absorbs the effects of the collected items, and finishes stealing them at an accelerated rate. Any items gained after the channel is done will actually not be used. Notice how no beetle guards spawned despite your queen's gland being gone. This is an item cap that seems to be in the game to prevent Mithrix from becoming, you know, legitimately impossible to beat. Additionally, this mechanic has been in the game since day 1, but was harder to notice due to him being susceptible to damage during the channel. Now just a quick note, I don't have much aside from observational data to back this up, and need to actually get to testing this in simulated runs. However, this is such a strong constant that I feel like we can say this is an intended mechanic. Just thought I'd put it out there. Again, this is some amazing work. Subbed :)

@@SmoothTurtle840 I disagree. I think the majority of players would be in favor of it if they knew about the cap. I see where you're coming from, tho. However, causing an intentional softlock just for reaching the final boss is kind of anti-player and goes against what Hopoo set out to make. I mean, it's not like it's exactly easy to kill him either when he gets a bunch of movement speed and attack speed and CDR.

there are lots of items that mithrix steal but can't use for several reasons e.g. Razorwire, Tougher Times, Mired Urn, Crowbars, etc (source: v1.1.0.1 patch notes). I'm not saying that what you said is right or wrong, but I think it's something to consider when making these assertions.

11:48 Related story: me and my friends did a command run and one of them ended up picking up a mired urn. Not the end of the world right, the thing was that he was playing loader and so was stacking focus crystals which apparently increases damage to teammates. It got the the point where my other friend we were playing with literally couldn't play cus he would get one shot as soon as he spawned. I on the other hand had about 45 repulsions and it was still doing like an 8th of my health per tic. TLDR: don't stack mired urn and focus crystals cus it ends your teammates runs

My guess on the health working as usual even when displaying as negative is that the actual health value could be stored as a floating point number and only rounded to an integer for the UI. Floats can represent fractions and have an absurdly, absurdly, impractically high hard limit, though they suffer from precision errors as a tradeoff. You can think of it like the binary equivalent of scientific notation, where the number is expressed as some integer of a few bits multiplied by 2^another integer, the mantissa and the exponent respectively. The smaller the exponent, the less a change to the mantissa impacts the actual value of the number, and vice versa. With a standard 32 bit float, you can get up to 16,777,216 before you lose so much precision that you can't represent every whole number anymore, only even numbers. By the time you hit the integer overflow error, floats will stay positive but only represent multiples of 8. At the scales RoR2 health is working at, it's entirely reasonable to accept lower precision in the high millions in exchange for being able to represent fractional health when dealing with hundreds or thousands, so it wouldn't really be noticeable if not for the weird disparity with the UI in extreme cases. Floating point imprecision can cause seriously weird issues with rendering and physics in most engines if objects get to extremely large coordinate values, but in this case it doesn't matter whether you deal 1 million damage or 1 million and 3.

When I did a 86 stage run and fought mithrix, I killed last stage mithrix so fast he didnt even give me my items back, but i still got to the dropship.

The reason Elite Scavengers don't have their aspects shown is because they already spawn in with an equipment and therefore cannot have the elite aspects (the super rare equipment that drop from elites) equipped. They still get the hp and damage increase because those are tied to an invisible item given to all elite monsters

Actually it is not the game lagging when nothing spawn, it is that the player killed everything. There is no more life on this planet. Why the alloy worship and mythrix are no more bosses? It is because to you, they are nothing. You are no more considering as bosses but as normal monsters that you should kill. You have killed them all. The reason of why you are crashing when you are breaking the eggs is because you don't want to. You shouldn't break them because you are getting bored and actually feel pity for them.

How is command more cheating than sacrifice? If you do the capsules with some healing, but don't actually charge them you can stay there for as long as you like while getting extremely strong and the timer not progressing

The whole late game negative number thing is caused by how negative numbers are stored in binary. the first (leftmost) bit in for example a 64bit int is effectively the sign bit. So to create a negative number in binary you change this leftmost bit from 0 to 1 (and add 1 to the binary expression so that binary addition between negative and positive numbers still works. search "binary 1 complement" on youtube for a more complete explanation) But yea if you keep adding to this 64bit int such that all the bits to the right of this leftmost bit eventually all become 1 then add one more then leftmost bit will become a 1. The game interprits this as a negative number. However if you then take one away then the leftmost bit will become 0 again and the game will think the number is positive again. Hence why numbers get negative when high enough but can still be reduced to positive numbers if brought back down. (in the case of scavs with negative health as you take away from these "negative" binary ints the number becomes positive and then eventually hits 0 which triggers its death) Hope this helps!

The negative boss health might be compensated by the devs taking the absolute value of a number rather than the interger itself. This means that no matter how big the number is, the game just ticks in the direction of zero.

An explanation for the functional negative health bar could be that the health is actually stored in a float variable (floating point) but converted to an integer value if displayed

Technical explanation! If I recall, RoR2 uses floating point numbers for all damage and health, but displays these numbers rounded down to nearest integer. This greatly simplifies the math of %-based damage boosts. As it happens a 64 bit floating point value falls in an absurdly large range, as it is expressed in scientific notation: a fraction between 1 and 10, multiplied by 10 to the power of some number. Now of course since this is binary, that "10" is actually 2, but the same principle applies as regular decimal. A 64 bit floating point uses 53 bits of fraction and 11 bits of exponent; and can therefore approximate numbers of up to 300 decimal digits. The problem comes when displaying these enormous numbers. To avoid confusion, RoR2 devs decided to round down to integers, and then show those integers to the player. This means that when the numbers get big enough, the floating point number has no trouble, but the integer round-down value falls apart. Hence, a negative number is displayed even though the health bar still works.

The Alloy Worship Unit (I'll just say AWU) must be programmed differently than any other enemy in the game. Seems it has something forcing it to be boss class, and given it has an environmental spawn trigger it never fails to spawn, unlike other spawns which are managed by the coordinator. For the health bar, the devs did something to make health absolute so you'd never have the negative health bar be a problem, which is really good programming on their part. And the crashes from the AWU: the thing that stops enemies spawning when it would overload memory probably always fails on the AWU, so when it got to a point where that system should have kicked in it couldn't, memory gets overloaded just trying to process it's health and damage and you crash. All the stages prior were manageable to your computer, but that was too far, you'd have needed to dedicate way more memory to the game and it still would've crashed eventually

I just started playing this game today. I have maybe 3 or 4 hours so far. While everything in this video is like a foreign language to me atm, I think I can still vaguely understand what is going on and realize the amount of effort put into this. I play a lot of Hades, Enter The Gungeon, Dead Cells, etc, and have at least a few thousand hours combined into some of these games, but I still will NEVER be able to fully understand and master any of these games to this extent. I can already see that I’ll be completely hooked on ROR2 and will inevitably put hundreds, if not thousands of hours into this game, and maybe at least some of this will make sense lol, but I still appreciate the effort someone can put into a run like this.

So the reason for the worship units and coins is actually a neat one! So in fact, while the game uses a Signed 4-Byte Integer (32 bit) for its display variables, the backend tracking variables are larger and since the the backend mechanics that matter for how the game actually physically plays, it's No Big Deal.

I went a little beyond 20 stages with artifact of swarm + sacrifice, I had to lower my graphics to the max and look at the floor all the time because anything would trigger my robots or my proc chain and this constant firework was hard on my PC, I'm glad to learn that mods have been made for case like these

As for the Interger Overflow thing, it's *possible* that the way the math works in game is it takes the absolute value of the enemies health and applies it. But displays the original. Don't quote it bc I don't know programing I am just good ish at math

9:50 the integers are for displaying or the UI, you can see the boss has indeed a functional healthbar, so they must be using something like Long Int, which is 64 bits instead of 32

about the 32-bit thing, its possible that the developers expected players to overload the values, so they could have put all of their variables inside of absolute values so it would still work even if it overloads into a negative number

I think the reason the weird camera effect happened on sky meadows is because of the water in the tp, the same effect occurs when youre in bulwarks ambry and you get in the water and look around.
