I remember one day, many years ago when my husband told me, " Why are you so concerned about what your father thinks? I'm happy with you this way." And right there, God revealed to me this principle of your video. My head was now my husband. His way was my way. No longer my Dad's. 🙌

I think there is also a third category of daughters...the ones who had an emotionally absent/abusive father (narcissist), whom she has no respect for. This familial history can also have a very large impact on future relationships with men.

Thank you so much for this. We’ve been struggling with the first situation. So much wisdom is needed for both of us, especially with two young children in the home watching us, learning from us. This has been so very helpful, Doug. Thank you. I am listening to it over and over.

@@cosmictreason2242 apparently, my comment did make it through because someone replied to it. You can find it if you look. It refers to Francis Schaeffer's son Frankie Schaeffer who has daddy issues. I've read almost all of Francis Schaeffer's books- including two by Frankie Schaeffer. Have you? I've read the Bible through twice before I was 30 and many theology books including, Cornelius Van Til, Ji Packer, and many others. The reason Doug Wilson is interesting to me is because I consider myself in his theological sphere.

What if there are mothers who can't let go? My mother has had to control every aspect of my life all of my life. When I got married it started causing trouble in my marriage so my husband taught me to start pushing back on my mom. Now my relationship with my mom has worsened and she's trying to latch (control) my 7 yr old daughter. I have a lot of resentment towards my mother (divorce), I guess what you'd call "mommy issues".

There is a process for honoring a difficult parent. I call it loving from a distance. Firm, healthy boundaries will give you a more positive attitude toward Mom, because you aren't letting her push your buttons. You have locks on your door, and you don't have to answer calls or messages unless you want to. If she blows up, back up and let her cool down. Just remember to be calm, respectful and willing to forgive if she regains composure.

@@YSLRD I have a difficult circumstance. I'm epileptic and I can't drive. I rely on her and my dad for transportation so I see her all the time. They need keys in case I have a seizure. I have no problem with my mom being around, I just don't want her butting in my life and acting like she's my daughter's mother.

If a woman’s husband dies while her father is still alive, who is her “covenant head” in that situation?
@lesahofmeyer5735

Or her husband leaves her? Either way, she has left her family of origin, just like a married man has left his family of origin. Neither of them can go back, they have to go forward whether married or single. That's my vote.

Doug talks about this in his book Her Hand in Marriage. If a woman's husband dies then she is her own head, and she has permission to remarry whoever she wants, as long as he's a believer. That's from 1 cor 7:39

That doesn't fix it and people without daddy issues have age gap relationships. Either healthy people have an age gap relationship or unhealthy people have an age gap relationship. If you don't deal with your daddy issues you're an unhealthy person in an age gap relationship and the relationship won't fix you.
