I'm finally able to watch A Different World on Amazon after not watching it in many many years and while A Different World did get better from season two on I personally loved the original season and which Lisa and Marisa would have stayed. I also would have supported seeing a pregnant woman trying to make it through her college years as it could have inspired women in the real world to do the same thing at the time but that creep known as "Bill" did not want to see a pregnant Denise so she was sent back to The Cosby Show until being written off to go to Africa.

There were plans to keep Maggie and pair her up with Dwayne with him introducing her to his family over Thanksgiving in a racism theme episode where you would have saw his family flat out rejected her on site with his dad saying, all those black women at Hillman, you bring home a white woman?? But producers dropped her character citing she would not fit into the HBCU experience they were aiming for as white kids were very rare at some of those schools at the time not common place.

The original premise of the show was to show how a historically black college could be intergrated with no drama whatsoever. Although,Marisa Tomei, was the only white one cast(she's Italian)she proved to be just as popular as Lisa Bonet herself. Getting canned wasn't a bad thing either. 5 years later she would go on to win an Oscar for My Cousin Vinny.

He refused to have bad out of control daughters on his squeaky clean family show. Eventually,it would have drawn attention to what he was doing behind closed doors,and the many many years he was doing it.

@@deebah405 Yeah, Bill didn’t want Denise Huxtable to be a unwed pregnant college student because of morals. Plus, he didn’t like the fact that Lisa was pregnant in real life nor did he like the fact that she was married to Lenny Kravitz either. Debbie Allen wanted Lisa Bonet and Marisa Tomei to stay on the show. Debbie Allen wanted Lisa to stay on to show the perspective of a pregnant college student. Bill was definitely a control freak and out of touch at times. Debbie is the reason why A Different World touched on so many different topics after that first season. Debbie was brought in to revamp the show due to the fact that she graduated from a HBCU (Howard University) but she wanted to keep it centered around Denise Huxtable but not fully around her.

She left ADW in 1992 to work on Hanging With Mr. Cooper, she wanted to pursue more options for career but ironically, her character was only on the series for one year before that show was revamped like ADW was. Mr. Cooper's move to Fridays required it become a family show instead of an adult show was it was on Tuesdays in the first season.

She was slated to sing it but producers opted for someone else as Dawnn Lewis wasn't the star of the show. It was Lisa Bonet's vehicle as Lewis revealed in the Vanity Fair interview celebrating the show. The late Phoebe Snow sung this edition but Lewis did get writing credits

After being written off in the show,Marisa won an Oscar five years later. Had she remained,it probably never would have happened. Just like Molly Ringwald. She was axed in the first season of The Facts Of Life. Had she stayed,all the John Hughes movies would have all probably bombed with a different actress. It was timing. It opened up better opportunities.
