I had a issue with one of the buttons on my garmin edge 500 and just wanted to show what the insides looked like in the process.

Thanks for your great description! I had the same issue with the menu button and your proposed fix worked perfectly 😉 The Edge 500 got now a second life after being replaced by an Edge 520 5 years ago. Best regards from Germany!

Happy it helped. I was always curious what was inside one of these since they make them so small

In September 2019 this is still the best cycling computer ever made. Everything you want (including full suite of power fields, workouts), and nothing you don’t.

Thanks! I have an edge 200 which has a very similar structure and one of the buttons has been less and less responsive over time. I realized I've also been using my nail/tip of my thumb to press it and it's caused similar damage. Now I'm using the flat part of my thumb and it's working better, but I'm guessing I'll need to use your fix eventually!

My problem with the button seems to be on the inside connector. It is a lot flaps around a bit, while all the others are still solid. I will try this paper hack and hope for the best. Thanks for the ideas!

I'm pretty sure the "barometric sensor" is an RF connector for an external antenna/testpoint for manufacturing. I appreciate the video, I'm just trying to help.
@MartinKL8 жыл бұрын
+Hal no, I mean it's not actually a barometric pressure sensor. it is an RF connector.

Hello friend. Thank to you and your video I manage to open with succes my Edge. My problem is on the same button, but its not the rubber part that is damaged, instead is the small black button attached to the board. I realized that the button is more "soft" than others, moving up an down in a position it shouldnt. I used a little rolled tape to stabilize the button. Its working much better, but still not 100%. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks great demo.

The part you think is the pressure/altimeter sensor at 2:18 is actually an antenna connector, the barometric/altimeter is on the other side of the board, close to the usb connector

Hi! which kind of "glue" do you use to fix the used button. mine is so used that a hole appairs on the silicon belt and watter is entering.... Txs!
@c2thew7 жыл бұрын
Fontanil Cyclisme when there is a hike inside of the button you have to place material inside to reinforce the button before gluing it. I used Elmer's white glue with a little bit of super glue. you don't want the button to be too hard to push once it's glued together

Thanks! I have the screen damaged. Garmin refuses to fix it. I wanted to try buy another damaged one and replace it. Is it possible to detach from the motherboard?
@c2thew10 жыл бұрын
Yes you can remove the screen from the motherboard as seen at 2:42. I'm not sure if you can find another screen, but removing it shouldn't be too hard.

what size is the torx bit? I have tried a heap but cant get one small enough
@c2thew10 жыл бұрын
the torx bit that I used says JK16 on it though i'm not sure if that's the size. It's much easier to just buy the screwdriver multi kit on ebay for $6. look under "31 In 1 Magnetic Handle Screwdriver Set Screw Mobile Phone Repair Kit Tools HOT"

c2thew I think it needs to be a T5 Torx.

What ended up being the fix for the button?
@c2thew10 жыл бұрын
The fix for the button was to use superglue on the outside of the button to reinforce the strength, then added a piece of paper on the inside of the button to make sure that the rubber on the inside made even contact.

Thanks! Having the same issue with my Page/Menu button!
@c2thew10 жыл бұрын
James Murphy You'll have to buy the correct torx screw in order to pop open the edge 500. you have to fix the button from the inside and outside in order for this to work.
