Thank you again, Rupert. My admiration for you and what you share grows with every video that I watch. So wise of you to say "I don't know" in response to the woman's question about why someone incarnates into conditions that seem less favorable than another, or with an interest in Truth. Tears actually arose when I heard you say, "I just found myself with this tremendous interest and love in these matters." The same has held true for "me." Why? I don't know; but I'm grateful--very grateful. 🙏🏻

Beautiful question, beautiful answer. I love how he is always able to take each questioner exactly where they are and tailor his answers to their understanding. In education we call that scaffolding. That's a sign of a truly skilled teacher. Many other nondual teachers would immediately start talking about how there is no suffering, it's all an illusion. It can come across as dismissive and cruel. This is the very reason I avoided nondual teachings until I discovered Rupert Spira.

Always great to watch two egos discussing their ego-concepts and wondering why they can’t find the answer to non-dual questions in doing so 🤷. The right answer to her question would be: Who “refuses” this idea? That is the answer. Who feels “uncomfortable” with this idea of fate and of not being in control?? The answer will set you free of the feeling of discomfort and refusal. The time invested in this discussion would’ve been better spent meditating over this question.

This can all be tied into our concept of value. Value is measurement assigned by the bodymind/ego. It isn't about who's fate was better or worse, grim or pleasant, happy or unhappy; it's about infinity/eternity which is able to take on any conceivable and inconceivable form when localized. There is no such thing as "right" or "wrong". 😘 If everything was bliss and happiness all the time forever it would eventually turn back into suffering and torment, otherwise things like drugs would "fix" everything.

Rupert refuses to address Karma. That’s ok. The following is the wisdom I received in my meditation. I can’t prove it. The word karma generally makes us think about suffering. But it’s just a part of the intelligence we see around us. There are various type of memory. Karmic memory is only one of it. We can’t understand it conceptually because our minds cannot grasp it and we get frustrated. We cannot make “sense” of it. This might upset people but just one example of consequence of action is this - say you keep consuming beef as part of your diet. Now, a cow is capable of complex emotions and suffers at the slaughter house. That suffering which the cow endures as one localised mind-body has to also be experienced by the mind-body which caused it to get the perspective of what suffering is. This memory is nothing but only a part of the intelligence of consciousness. If you ask me “why” I can only say that intelligence of the consciousness or source was to make sure some mechanism is built in. Just imagine more capable mind-bodies just causing harm or discomfort endlessly? So Karmic memory is only a part of the intelligence around us. It says that all actions have consequences. Intelligence is just all the laws. Laws came from the source. Just imagine what if your pain receptors in your stomach always fired and caused pain for no reason. If all humans somehow were born with this condition regardless. But it’s not the case. Why? Because the intelligence of source has made all things very elegantly. So the same intelligence applied for how to conduct the mind-body. The yogic and Vedic system is all about that. What foods to eat, what herbs to take, properties of various things found in nature, when to use what, etc. The only thing we can “do” is align with this intelligence. Meditation is one of the ways. It cannot be done. Just surrender and be still. You will know what the “right action” is. Trust me.

Perhaps he 's being consistent with the sage Nisargadatta who said that with a fully realized being there doesn't exist Karma because such a "person" is no longer perpetrating the kinds of actions which will invariably lead to self destructive results.
@e-karttolle7864 жыл бұрын
kwixotic yes, from what I’ve understood, all realised beings say karma is cyclic and it cannot be escaped by a finite mind. In other words realisation cannot be achieved by accumulating “good” karma. For those beings, karma is irrelevant because they don’t identify with their mind and body. This raises a concern that if karma doesn’t matter, why bother even. It matters in the context of the divine intelligence or the source. It’s a law that came with the source. The source itself is guiding you because that’s what it wants. So for us unaware folks, all we can do is perform action from the deepest wisdom we have. That’s all we can do. This alignment happens magically in meditation. Some how the door to right action is revealed. Right action could mean anything and not necessarily a “good” thing. Depends on what your inner wisdom guides you with.
@kwixotic4 жыл бұрын
@@e-karttolle786 Sure, because for instance if you witnessed a child being unnecessarily and violently abused by a parent, you'd then find yourself intervening even at the cost of possibly becoming the target of an attack by said parent. The inner wisdom would somehow "require" that you not remain just a passive bystander who might even incur the condemnation of others who also witnessed this happening.

As time is an illusion we live all our lives in the now. Perhaps we experience all shades of consciousness at once, the good and the bad existing simultaneously in different dimensions and it is just impossible for the human mind to understand this from our narrow perspective which we interpret as just taking one role after another like an actor in his lifetime. But we do experience all these lives by our power to focus on whatever role we choose for our own reason and live it out in our time/space reality and then “die” and focus on another role for our next lifetime and thus experiencing all levels of existence . Like the actor choosing his script .

@PerenniaLight4 жыл бұрын
Infinite consciousness disembodied is completely neutral. Infinite consciousness playing the role of living being, either prior to accumulation of dualistic knowledge and/or after realization of their true being is essentially playful loving happiness. Since this realization happens prior to or after duality, they are technically one thing. If you’re separating them with logic, you are employing a dualistic tool called mind to do it.

Rupert you are the best teacher ever! Can you please tell me what I as awareness/experience have to do in life. If I only be experience knowingly than that implies that I have no control what so ever in life and I never had. (from the point of the seperate self?) The thoughts and decisions that create the good life will come or they won't. Situations will come or they won't. Nothing can I do as awareness. It seems the only thing I can do is live in illusion or live consciously. And now I know that I am awareness taking the shape of experience I can't take life serious anymore. And I feel I have no influence what so ever. Yeah thats all peaceful and fantastic but it also seems negative because i am striving to live the best life i can. But now it seems I have no control in living a good life or a bad life. I just have to be happy with both? If striving happens thats oke and when it doesn't, is that equally oke? I have still desires that I want to realize and I feel that I need influence for that. I feel there must be some kind of influence that you can have on living a great life. Are my desires for the good life also an illusion? Must I truly desire nothing to be free and truly happy. Or are desires also part of the awareness-experience that need to be realized? I hope you can help me.

Sometimes we are judging from our own perpective what another might be feeling or thinking. It may not necessarily be so from the other’s perspective. What is it that would carry over from the past? We’re so incredibly self-focused, as if this drama really matters to eternity. Consciousness or god is completely neutral and undifferentiated, these passing thoughts and emotions we experience in our journey through the human, no matter how much suffering or joy is involved, are just infinitesimal ripples in a vast ocean. The analogy of INFINITE CONSCIOUSNESS as “John Smith” is confusing. We all know a John Smith and they are typically used to denote your average bloke, a separate self, your typical personality. It is still an enigma as to why this name is chosen to represent infinite consciousness. The confusion, I think comes from the idea that infinite consciousness has no name. In a way King Lear seems a better choice for infinite consciousness veiled as John Smith. “John Smith lives as a beggar not knowing he is the one and only KING, infinite consciousness.” Does anyone know the origin of the choice of these names? I’d ask Rupert but I don’t believe he ever responds to comments, or questions on his channel.

Everything is manifested in this universe through opposites, and because god has no opposite, he stays hidden. So evil has to exist so that love and peace be identified

Very good inquiry. “Good” is a label of dualism. If we assume that awareness is all love and peace (non-duality) and nothing more, we could never define it, for everything would simply “be” that way. We could never even know what love or peace is unless we have a means to experience and recognize it. Our human content of experience thus forms duality in order to perceive infinite eternity.

I certainly would not be able to develop my talent and passion of connecting to people if not felt not good enough or worthless in the childhood, and that pushed to knowing more other people and wanting to help them.

Just as a bubble's course in a stream is not the choice of the bubble the uncessant stream of Karmma decides a separate self's course of life. The streaming Karmma has to do with mind posture and the misinterpretations. The incessantly streaming Karmma makes and unmake the whole misinterpretations and hence the universe on its course.

trying to connect God and suffering and seeing God as end to all suffering is a perhaps a distortion of the religion to expect God to take responsibility for ones good fate and well being... if an adult experiences suffering then they have a choice of reflection but if you have a 4 year old with poverty or hunger or in war... it has no purpose and isn't God's creation... it just is... suffering physical or emotional is humans living through a undesirable state... but desire itself is a human construct .. the purpose of suffer or as we know it is perhaps to go beyond suffering which is a function of consciousness taking human form... it is the human form wanting and end to this but not by getting what it wants but not wanting at all..

Much as I love Rupert’s teaching I find this idea of Consciousness at rest and in movement incoherent as if Consciousness moves it is not immovable, motionless and actionless as Vedanta teaches. If Consciousness moves it is then subject to change and is not all-pervasive or limitless. This notion of Consciousness at rest and in movement reminds me a little of what little I know of Kashmir Shivaism, of Tantra rather than Vedanta. In Vedanta the world-appearance does not belong to the same level of reality as Consciousness which is the absolute reality. The way Rupert teaches, the universe is of the same level/degree/order of reality as infinite Consciousness. As I’ve listened to Rupert over the years and read his books and been to meetings, I’ve felt there are loose ends in his teaching, incompleteness, contradictions which only resolve in the teaching tradition of Advaita Vedanta. Rupert is a wonderful teacher no doubt, and I have learnt a lot from him, but his answers to perhaps the most fundamental question of spirituality (apart from Who am I?) are not adequate as they do not discuss levels of reality. This question is this: how is it possible for there to be a world of duality if reality is non-dual? The movement of Consciousness is like the movement of the sun through the sky each day: an appearance only. Consciousness is neither moving nor at rest. This may seem like a small point but I feel it is of the essence of Advaita.
@renesonse57944 жыл бұрын
If a stone is thrown into a still pool (Conciousness at rest), are not the ripples (Conciousness in movement) still water? Conciousness in movement is maya and vedanta teaches that maya is Brahman only with the illusion of it not being so. There can't be God and "not God" or as Rupert says, that God can't be infinite and finite.
@irfanmerchant48304 жыл бұрын
Rene Sonse Thank you for your reply. I appreciate your taking the time. I don’t know where this idea of a movement in or of Consciousness comes from, or the idea that there is Consciousness at rest and Consciousness in motion. I would ask if Consciousness in movement is Maya then there is no movement in Consciousness. This is exactly what I was suggesting. The movement in Consciousness does not belong to the same order of reality as Consciousness itself (so called Consciousness at rest). It is more like the water in a mirage than ripples in a pond. And from where does the ‘stone’ come which disturbs the stillness of Consciousness - if it is from outside Consciousness then Consciousness is not a secondless reality, if it is within Consciousness it is attributing action to Consciousness. I just find this idea of Consciousness at rest and in movement misleading.

@@irfanmerchant4830 If one looks at the science of physics, the observation of the differentiation of consciousness makes basic common sense. Can you identify any observable thing or phenomenon that's totally devoid of movement?
@wyattarent8574 жыл бұрын
@@ZpointG for one example, the entirety of the universe itself can't be said to ever "move" because it has no location or position from which to travel. There seems to be a miscommunication between what you're talking about and what Irfan is talking about. You're right that every finite thing in motion, and if I understood correctly, Irfan is pointing out that infinity cannot have motion otherwise it must be finite.
@ZpointG4 жыл бұрын
@@wyattarent857 The understanding that the nature of consciousness is to *_differentiate itself in order to have experience_* is totally lost on Irfan. No movement is the subjective...movement becomes the objective. Without an object (movement) the subject (motionless-Ness) has nothing to experience.

We cannot know why each person is fortunate or less fortunate,we cannot know the thoughts of God because his ways are not our ways,that being said the game of life is for each person(fortunate and less fortunate) to find God in him/her and correct their situation to live the life we consider as good for us. The person born as less fortunate that finds God will succeed more than a supposed fortunate person.

Let me share my insight briefly if you dont mind. From my understanding No ones here to suffer in any kind of way whatsoever But you suffer if you lock your self up in conventional human valuing system and not knowing your own unique value which is unique expression of infinity Your life is not about fit in whats already exist Your life is about discovering your own unique value which is given by all that is(god,infinity,universe you name it) And allow it without judgement and express it Many people suffer because they are trying to fit in where they never belong Some people use the suffering as execuse for learning No!!!!! You dont require any suffering to learn anything You gotta pay attention to your self But be brutally honest You will discover what will fulfill you And i guarantee you that cant be trade even with trillion dollars Its that much valuable Stop giving a fuck about boring human value system And discover your own and show them In that way money comes automatically You are expression of infinity And you have your own place Well if you dont value that Then no wonder you getting end up in all kinds of weird places which is nothing to do with you And keep getting stressed I’ve been there And its not a good place to be in Yes you suffer extremely not because universe is just like that or its punishing u But you are keep ignoring your own perfect value which is already given Its like oil trying to mix with the water You cant Be your self You are perfection my friend

Why some people suffer so much: . Vedanta explains that unexpected joy or sorrow is related to karma of past life! In that case I find it difficult to accept a harsh punishment such as cancer to a 2 year child, associated suffering & death can be a Divine act. So, it appears, karma of pat life in the form of subtle boy migrates from one life to another, that's where effect of karma ends, the kind of parents you are born to, there after karma of present life takes over. Why a 2 year child gets cancer, or innocent children die in earth quake, airplane crash--isn't that very "nature of life" that certain percentage die at various ages due to various reasons-there is physical pain and mental suffering, physical issues are governed by physical laws like physics, chemistry & biology. Mental suffering is governed by spiritual laws like law of karma. With improvement in medical field we have been able to reduce suffering and death , have been able to improve life expectancy!

As I see it is a huge play where all are actors. In the play/ movie it appears that some are fortunate than others. But what appears as fortunate is unfortunate from another view point. Same for suffering..what appears as suffering this moment is actually a blessing in retrospect. That's why it's a world of duality. N we can escape the 2 extremes of this pendulum n stay at the centre. Balance . Equilibrium. God is at the centre. Also it helps to remember that it is god who is the doer. So no need to believe our suffering is our past wrongdoing. At that moment what was needed we did. In this moment what is needed we do..everytime according to our internal guidance. What is experienced as black today same will be experienced as white later. We have to experience both black n white n realise that there is no happiness in being either black or white. It's at the middle. If circumstances require we can be both black or white. I m not sure if I can express clearly in words.

Cause AND Effect for Dharma OR Karma is a basic LAW. As soon as the cause is caused, the effect is created. Life (as a force) in reality's structure is potent --- IT is creative. In that sense, WE are co-creators of /or with God (which is creativeness) AS extension, expansion --- kinetic energy from perpetual (energy) in Potential. I notice athiest thinkers love to knock the 1000's of gods that are claimed. These are NOT the ultimate God --- those are perceptions/ interpretations from an understanding. Perception IS not Knowledge. And all we can do is "know" --- using logic --- correctly!

Infinite consciousness is John Smith .... God is King Lear and his dream characters who dream their own dream in the dream of God are both made of infinite consciousness and appear in infinite consciousness. It is infinite consciousness itself that brings creation and manifestation into existence. Through the eyes of God's dream, infinite consciousness is experiencing the finite.

" Man has no destiny - although you have been told for thousands of years that you have a destiny. This is what I call the way of the cunning, deceiving, exploiting people. Now when it is said to you that man has a destiny, you never think of a railway train. Only railway trains have destinations, stations. But beautiful words can go on hiding ugly realities. "Man has a destiny" - I have been hearing it from my childhood, and I have been saying each time it has been mentioned by somebody in some way, "Please don't insult me." When I said this to one of my professors, he was shocked. He said, "I am not insulting you. To have a destiny is not an insult, it is the most honorable thing in life." I said, "It may be for you because you don't understand what you are saying. Destiny means predetermined; my tomorrow is already predetermined by somebody. I have not even been consulted - as if it is none of my concern, I am nobody, just some playing cards in somebody's hands; whatsoever he wants he makes out of me. Whatever game he plays, that is my destiny. And this is thought to be respectful?" And the professor was not saying something crazy. That is what is thought all around the world. I said, "I can understand why you are shocked, because you have never thought about the word destiny. How can I have a destiny? I have not determined it. Then who is the guy who determines it? And what right has he got to determine it? He has not even asked me. I don't know him, we have not even been introduced. Just for courtesy's sake he could have asked me, 'This is going to be your destiny - do you like it or not?' But nobody has even bothered that much." Man has no destiny. And I say that it is only man who has not any destiny. Dogs have; buffalos have; donkeys have. They move on certain rails. Each donkey throughout millions of years has lived the same routine life: the birth, the love affair, and the difficulties of marriage, children, old age, all hopes shattered, all dreams unfulfilled, and the darkness of death. All the donkeys have lived that way, they are still living that way - but not man. So first: man has no destiny. Once you understand it, almost all your problems disappear. I say "almost" - perhaps ninety-nine percent disappear; one percent remains. I want it to remain. Ninety- nine percent of your problems are created by deviating you, by driving you into ways which are not for you. But whenever I said that this is an insult, the reaction was the same - a shock. Slowly I became aware that people don't use words consciously. What they are saying is almost like a parrot, perhaps worse than a parrot"

God has no role to play in our lives, physical world exists in duality-day and night, boy/girl on n on . Same way good and evil. There can not be good without evil just as there can not be day without night! Entire universe is manifestation of supreme consciousness ( Divine intelligence or say God ) as per Vedanta.

If your definition of God is an entity outside of ourselves, then you’re correct, we can’t know God. If, however, God is Love (the indivisible peace of all knowing), then nothing else is known. God as an entity is a temporary thought. God as Love is eternal.

There is no God. We are nothing experiencing something. Thus we are nothing, something and everything as the same time. There is nothing there. If you label it as God then you fall in a circle, where does God comes from. God is nothing !
