No kidding. I had a corgi/retriever mix, and she could drop enough hair to build a new dog roughly every 16 hours... The only dog I've ever owned who was in the same league as her in terms of shedding was the shepherd/samoyed mix we had when I was a kid.

I know exactly what you mean! So I've always just taken the heavy or excessive shedding as part of the territory with huskies. Finally decided it was excessive enough to take ours to the vet. My vet gave a steroid shot and could not believe the difference it made. He told it was a very common issue with huskies and blue merle gene collies and shepards. He told me that in his opinion, most clinics and owners assume an antihistamines is the solution during alergy shedding season. I couldn't believe how much the steroid helped. Instantly stopped having to follow the dog everywhere with a vacuum

@@kwiggy5091 Maybe I should clarify some. The hair loss had been a reoccurring issue that would stick around for weeks sometime. His itchiness would also elevate. I think I assumed the itchiness was triggered by the sheddind hair. No matter how much brushing we would do the shedding never slowed and antihistamines seems to make no difference. Started seeing a new vet after a move. I explained the problem and he just gave the shot. I was fully expecting to be told to do what I was already doing and just wait it out. I can not find the name of the drug. Im positive it was a steroid injection. His exact words were "quite common to the breed". When i inquired he said that in his opinion shedding and itchiness problems are rarely taken seriously and usually just generically treated. I could not believe how effective it was. Instantly stopped having to pick up clumps of hair everytime I got up. And instantly no more scratching and biting. Only down side was the Vet said it would make him more hungry for awhile. And our very honest husky turned into a cunning food thief for the next 2 weeks. Im not saying this is your problem but thought id share some potentially helpful info.

Just the other day i was watching a video where a titmouse (bird) was pulling fur from a sleeping fox to line its nest. Then all the comments said that people regularly leave their pet's (shed) fur outside for the birds to take and use. I just thought it was a great way to recycle your pet's fur.

Did they consider diet? Stress? As a groomer of 16 years, 6 of those being a veterinary-groomer, tapes was never on my radar. Tapes mean fleas.

It wasn't really a deshedding. He took the dog to get checked for the excessive shedding. They brushed all the fur out and then ran tests.

This is Hazels owner, she was found on the streets so we’re not sure. We thought corgi mix but her DNA test but they didn’t show corgi. Apparently they found some Alaskan malamute and coonhound which doesn’t make any sense 🤷🏼‍♀️

You're pretty stupid then. A dog's fur is very important, as it helps keep the dog warm during cooler temperatures and helps keep them cool in warmer temperatures. Cut off all their fur and you're dealing with very dry and itchy skin, frostbite, and possible diseases.
