Hauled in half of a truck that by chance has an FT industrial motor that is needed to replace the blown up 391 in the F600 that we tried to revive last year.

That cab for the CO that's one of the cleanest ones I've seen in a long, long while. Like I still remember those trucks being commonly a sight still driving around even though they were about ten or so years out of production by then. I'm with a few others to save the can for a new project or swap to a more custom frame. Heck give Edison motors a holler to see if they want to try out a cab over build for one of their generator trucks.

We had an F600 grain truck with a 330cid. It was so gutless. Also only having a 4 speed really sucked lol. But I'm sure you won't be putting 24000 pounds on the back and expecting it to go lol. We had a 1600 load star with a 345 and a chevy with a 366 all at the same time and they would run circles on the old Ford.

Back in the day when I was an engine machinist (the guy I worked for was an FE guru) we would search for 361/391FT blocks. They have stronger castings and extra webbing in block skirts than the FE. We would also take 391FT cranks and use them when would build 390FEs because they where steel forged as opposed to cast crank in FE. This was time before alot of aftermarket parts manufacturers existed. We scoured junk yards and old farms in Southern Idaho looking for old spud trucks.

We had a pair of Ford Custom cabs on my fire department up to as late as five years ago. One was an ‘83 and one was an ‘85 I think. They both had normally aspirated 3208 Cats. All that to say that style cab over was still being built in the ‘80’s. Cool find, looking forward to the build.

These C-Series trucks were pretty popular, and long lived, from 57 to 1990 or so, with minimal changes through those years, the biggest changes were engine options, even the dash was basically that of a 57-60 Ford truck throughout its life span. Those engines were quite diversified, probably more than any other, my dad had a New Holland hay bale loader/stacker back in the 60s and 70s with a 330. Anxious to see the transplant, hope it goes well

There isn't anything sketchy there at all! It didn't move, or come off, no lost parts, you did just many others have done. Glad he had a crane to put it on the trailer, that would've sucked to load!! Good score, MANY MANY alternate parts for the rest of the fleet to boot! Bet that cluster goes right in 61-66 dashes on F series.

Awesome! There has I think 2 versions of the 330, a medium duty and a heavy duty. I have a 330hd in a 65 f600 dump truck it's a solid reliable workhorse. Fix the exaust manifold leaks while the motor is out, one of the quirks of those motors. I've never heard one without a leak lol

OK, so the FT 390 shares the same crankshaft and rods as the FE in 390 and 427 applications. They have stronger rods than the 360 and 352, but I don't know anything about the 330 rod and what ford used for that application. I know a lot of people say in the car enthusiasts world that the 390 rod is far superior and will allow very high rpms. I've never come across the rod cap problem, but seeing the differences in the 360/352 rod compared to the 390/427 rods, I would suspect that the 360/352 rod to split in half at high rpm usage. All FE and FT engines are internally balanced except the FE 428 which has the external balancing weights you describe. As far as blocks go, they both will interchange with each other with the exception of the distributor, the FT blocks need some machining work done to fit an FE distributor. Other than that, everything interchanges. The FT heads had great big valve stems, they are sodium filled to help with heat dissipation on the exhaust valves. The FE and FT are great engines, I like them a lot and I'm glad you are getting one more back on the road. A lot of FE and T's got bad reputations due to the poor camshafts Ford used in them, they really wake up with the right combo. The other detrimental aspect is the log exhaust manifolds.

Actually that cabover body was introduced in 1956, and used all the way thru 1984, give or take a year. Over the years they featured every engine from the 292 Y block to the FT to the 534 Super Duty gas. I dont believe they ever utilized a Windsor or any version of the Cleveland (335 series).

BYA, looks like a winning project! Though I'm not familiar with the industrial 330, 360 or 390 V8s the Ford 300 straight 6 was one of the best engines ever built. Their new Bronco is quite capable with axle issues like many other offroad vehicles in truly rough terrain with lift kits and oversize tires. So Ford gets it right a lot of the time. Love to see that flatbed back up and ruining!
