Traditionally, paint was made using the heads of flowers, crushed, boiled, and mixed with water, or other paint medium such as oil or acrylic. Considering the lack of added medium, this concoction in a tube would be considered pigment. I think this is the closest we’re getting to the paint sausage.

Even food-grade rosewater is unbearable... I've tried lamb, rose and fennel sausages and they were a crime against lambkind. Also, rose ice-cream - an experience akin to licking a bar of stale soap... Not recommended, although some poor demented souls seem to enjoy the flavour.

Roses are safe to eat too and are a beneficial superfood and highly procured extract. The ones he likely bought are treated with chemicals and other irritatants to keep it maintained and avoiding insects that would chew on it. I recommend rose hip berries or flowers in tea especially if you find a bush out in the wild/forest.

Edible roses ARE a thing, but they'd be more considered an aromatic spice. You're honestly not looking for flavor, more the smell. They're usually used in tea or as a topper, but I think edible rose petals, rosemary and pork could be a good base for a sausage.

We used to go on a nature walk with a local native elder every year in school, just around the local walking paths, showing us the nature in our own backyard.
