Will be interesting to track this distillery over the next 10 years when they have more mature aging. Wonder if weather & ventilation speed up aging?

SO nice to watch your new vlog Ben. I have missed you my friend. Some notes. I agree, stunningly beautiful bottle. I like the fact, (unlike The Glenlivet Alpha and Bruichladdich Octomore series which are also black), that they haven't made the bottle totally black as you cannot see the fill level which I find annoying.*6:45 "Alba is Scottish Gaelic for Scotland...and Italian for sunrise"* You are correct of course, Alba is Latin for dawn but it is a rather confusing term. Whenever I have seen the word Alba on a whisky label it refers to the White American Oak they used to mature the spirit, that is: Quercus Alba, such as Glenrothes Alba Reserve, Laphroaig's Quercus Alba Cask. However, this Italian whiskey was matured in Sicilian Marsala casks (a fortified Italian wine, a rough and heavy sherry type usually used in cooking to thicken sauces). *7:10** "Nova which is Italian for new...I think, maybe?".* Correct. More accurately, it's actually Latin for "New". As in Nova Stella "A new star". The province in East Canada, Nova Scotia, was named by King James I (of England) in 1621 meaning New Scotland! *12:45** "Bunnahabhain has this sweet peatiness to it."* Are you talking about some of the independant bottlings of peated Bunnahabhain as their distillery bottlings (as you know), are totally unpeated? *13:15** "you would think it was about an 8 year old"* Hotter countries like Italy mean greater Angel's share. WIth extreme changes in temperature in mountain regions, even more Angel's share. For instance, the mild climate of Scotland everyone talkings of 2% per year Angel's share. Up in the Golan Heights in Israel, the distillery in Katzrin experiences around 6.3% Angel's share. This acts to repidly mature the spirit as the whisky is being sucked into the wood and then seeps back into the cask content more frequently as the cask expands and contracts in the rapidly temperature changing climate. A far as the *Golan Heights Distillery* is concerned, its amazing Three Year Old Single Cask whiskies have a maturation flavour profile (in my opinion), equivelent to 10 years or more in Scotland and unlike certain filter or rapid stave maturation techniques used in the United States, the maturation in these climates does not seem forced but 100% natural maturation. You recognise the maturity in the thick mouth feel, the rounded elegent edges where all teh harsh wood influence has already disappeared leving only the positive sweet and dry spice influence of the wood. Regarding the bottle style and packaging of the Golan Heights whiskies, I really like it. It is very much in line with the style of ancient Jewish architecture, synagogues in the area from 1,800 years ago. Hi Reb. Good to hear from you again. One of the retailers I work with in Manchester is a Jewish supermarket called Haber's World. The wine and spirits buyer Chaim is going to Israel in the next few weeks and is hoping to bring back some whisky from Milk And Honey with him which I'm hoping I might be able to feature on A Dram A Day. However I will try to get hold of him before he goes to see if he can source some Golan Heights too!

A Dram A Day Tell him to go to Machane Yehuda market in Jerusalem. The best shop there is on Agrippas street called HaMesaMeiyach. Only a few left. If he can get in touch with me I can reserve bottles for him. (Contact me on my Blog). Golan Heights Cabernet Red wine French Oak Single Cask #16 there for 380 shekels. (Only 190 bottles from one cask) Also cask #10 for same price (last few bottles). The best place to get Milk and Honey Young Single malt is at the distillery in Tel Aviv. Cask 36/37 are 190 shekels a bottle.

New music? First time I’ve heard of an Italian whisky. What an amazing distillery. Rye will make some bourbon & rye fans happy. Any chance of another auction this year?
@ADramADay3666 жыл бұрын
Yes new music - trying to keep Project 500 a seperate 'brand', as it were. (god, how poncey does THAT sound?!) Unlikely to do another auction to be honest, maybe at the end of 500 but who knows when that will be? Given previous, about 2028...

A Dram A Day 😂 Unfortunately, we live a world where it’s all about branding, so I totally understand. Glad you’re keeping up the good work. We’re hoping to go back to Scotland in a year and may swing up north to Elgin. Like to stop by G&M to bring back some of their great Independent bottlings. Let me know if you do an auction again; I’ll try to find a quicker connection to keep up with bidding 😏 Sláinte Ben.
