The blown part is a ceramic capacitor probably doing some electrical smoothing of some sort.
@cmjones01
@cmjones01 2 жыл бұрын
Those ceramic capacitors fail all by themselves from time to time. I'm not surprised the motor still works without it. I've just repaired our DC62's motor which had died. One of the switching transistors had failed. They're on the back side of the board, so you have to desolder the big connections to the tags of the motor windings then withdraw the PCB. The transistors are surface-mounted. With the right tools, they're not hard to test and replace.

My V10 blew up when I changed gears with the trigger engaged. I went from medium speed to top speed, and it burned. Dyson will replace it, but I am worried once the warranty expires, Dyson won,t fix it. It seems like a simple problem; I am surprised Dyson hasn’t addressed it. Good thing, you can fix it. But still. It is an expensive vacuum, and I don’t know any decent electrician in my area.

If I designed a new vacuum it would be a corded upright vacuum featuring a 600 watt high efficient brushless suction motor with over 120cfm and 100 inches of water lift and emits a nice soft 525 hertz tone on the max power setting and is almost as tiny as a shark 750w screamer motor but with a larger fan to motor ratio. Takes non woven cloth bags, disposable pre motor filter, and a replaceable HEPA filter. Also for a fee you can get the carpet model which comes with a wessel werk EBK 360 for grit busting agitation. The base model just comes with the bare floors straight suction head.

You mentioned which one is newer. Isn’t that the date on the top right of the board? The one that blew is 01/07 and the good one is 01/09? Thanks for the helpful video!

Wait a second, dyson won't even repair a machine for pay anymore? When my v10 goes bang a month outside of warranty I guess I'll be up a creek. That's really sad, I wish vacuums weren't becoming non-repairable, expensive, and not long lasting like smartphones with yearly upgraded releases. Dyson are even trying to phase out their independent service centers in the USA.

I'm only going by what the owner said though... And I didn't press her for a recording of the conversation! This is the second v10 with a smashed cyclone I've had though where dyson said no...luckily now I know used chassis are quite cheap that's the repair they'll get now from me!

@@beko1987 That's a fair point, I guess we don't know the exact situation on this. I'm treating my v10 very gently so I'm not too worried about breaking the cyclone (plus I got it for the price of a v8 so I'm not too bothered!)

@@bristolfashion4421 'bypass' refers to power supply bypassing, not signal bypassing. It's there to help stabilise the power supply against local small variations caused by a variety of factors. Chips work better when their power rails are bypassed.

Hi thank you for your interesting video! Could you help me? I got a used Dyson V11 Absolute without battery. I connected the + and - inside the handle and the lcd behind the filter lights up a little bit but the dyson doesn't work...I noticed there are two more circular pins inside the handle but i don't know what they are (additional power, button, etc) i even tried to find a diagram but i didn't got anything, do you know what they are or can you tell me where i have to connect them? I saw a video where maybe they go to the motor control board but i don't know what they are... I'm really desperate and i don't want to spend extra money for a new battery...thank you very much!

I’m one of Vacuum Facts recent targets, despite the fact I own and love my Small Ball Animal 2, I also have a Sebo E3 Premium. I’m impressed with both of them. I also know people who have 9-10 year old Dyson cordless models, on their original batteries (must have kept them topped up with charge) I don’t doubt that Dysons are reliable, and as a vacuum repair specialist, you’re going to see only the broken ones. Statistically, dyson are one of the most reliable vacuum brands you can buy, minus the batteries on their pre V10 models which failed after 2 years, typical of any lithium ion battery I guess. Don’t think dyson would sell million and have repeat customers if their products were bad. I do begrudge how VF degrades, bullies and demonises anyone who disagrees with his content. It’s totally uncivilised and says more about him than anyone else. Fanboyism does neither the consumer nor the company any good.
@beko1987

The problem with VF is he can't take another opinion that's not his own. Your right, they'll sell millions of v11s and if 1000 break that's still good numbers. I like my v11 alot though, bar it's typical dyson flaws it's the best cordless I've used, and beats many mains cleaners. I just like all vacuums so don't have the hard bias I guess!
@Olliebobalong
@Olliebobalong 3 жыл бұрын
@@beko1987 totally agree. They are very good vacuums, not flawless by any stretch. I like my Sebo and my dyson. You can like both! As much as we are rabid vacuum enthusiasts, at the end of the day, they are still vacuums. It’s really not that deep. We are very privileged that we can debate such things. It certainly doesn’t merit the bullying that he peddles.

@@Olliebobalong That VacuumFacts is not right in the head. All he goes on about is his so called "facts" which is most likely his own opinion. He's a right spiteful prick that loves belittling people who don't agree with his opinion. I wouldn't be suprised if he was a employee at Dyson!

Dyson make expensive crap, dyson has a following just like a fake religious cult. I've taken the dc16 apart and I'm not impressed with the engineering, I going to do the same with newer models but I already expect more of the same exaggerated claims that a lot of people have fallen for. Energy in vs energy out, if you want more suction power you need more power input, Yes efficient design will help also if there is a truly lossless bagless system that would help in reality that has never been made only big claims. I think its all a marketing hype that millions have bought into. I'll state one example, dyson claim you don't need a bag: if that problem has been truly solved then there shouldn't be any 1: build up of dust upstream of the cyclone system 2: no need for filters pre and post motor turbine. Claims that cyclone is a good concept are falsehood: it takes a lot of energy to keep dust and dirt that you have already drawn up into the dust bin to keep spinning around while any find particles light enough will be drawn on through the cyclone into the exhaust filter basically doing the same thing as a paper bag system did years ago.
