Got spirit ST on my sv at the mo, very nice tyres and an awesome 1000mile warranty

There is a German motovlog /bike channel "KurvenradiusTV", who made an sophesticated review of the Avon Spirit STs. He really liked them: lasted him longest compared to other tires he tested, which is quite a few good for quick riding (however, not as good as sport tier tires, which should still be good enough judging from the lean in his videos) he doesn't ride in the rain unfortunately

I'm running Avon tyres on my SV and they're great. Really confidence inspiring in the twisties, which for me as a new rider is helpful and the tread is lasting well. Looking forward to seeing your review of them over winter.

What to look out for with Avons on? Hedges Nah I don't know. I do know they make good dinghys though. Had one as a tender for my boat. I got over 5 years from it.

I was using a set of Diablos for the summer then when they wore out switch to a set of long lasting winter Pilot Road 4's. I should easily get 3-4 winters out of the PR4s. Works out cheaper (and safer) that way :)
@OfficialSmo7 жыл бұрын
I've heard nothing but good things about the PR4s to be honest - I'll definitely be trying them out!

I have no experience of those particular Avons, but I did run Avon TrailRiders on my supermoto and they were great. Not quite as grippy on dry asphalt as the stock Dunlops, but much better on wet roads and on softer surfaces. Plus they last at least twice as long.
@kebbot63897 жыл бұрын
I have used Michelin pilot road 4's and never had any issues whether i ride in rain or cold. Coldest ride was at -3C, rode a fz6. Cheers from Sweden.

Hi Smo - welcome back. I am about 1000 miles in on Spirit STs on my 2016 Street Triple and I'm very pleased with them. The original Pirellis only lasted 4000 miles before I had to get new rubber. I find the Avons are a VERY good every day tyre for our variable UK conditions. i.e. great on damp or wet, cold tarmac as well as for chucking into twisties on a sunny Sunday morning. There isn't yet any visible wear on the STs so that bodes well for an extended useful life. One additional thing I have noticed is they warm up much faster than the Pirellis did. Probably not the trackday-goers weapons of choice but excellent road-bike rubber IMHO mate.
@OfficialSmo7 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I certainly wouldn't have expected them to warm up faster being a harder compound - good news!

Only Avon I've had experience with is them lot that try and sell you something from that stupid catalog. I having the Battlax S21s on at the moment. They have decent grip but nothing compared to the Rossos. But they might be slightly better for the shit arse weather we have up north. Nice to see the videos back and the drone footage is looking quality.

I recently put Avon 3D XM on my zx7 and they're not bad, certainly way better in the wet or cold than racetecs were! And more than enough grip in the dry still for the road. But if you're a bit rough with the throttle or brakes in the damp then you can provoke them into letting go, but its quite predictable still, pilot road 3's I've used before were better in the wet with both edge grip and heavy braking but they were also twice the price!

That sounds pretty reassuring dude, thanks!

I've got the same tail tidy bud but mine was labeled as 'smoto' and I've got the same issue as you with the paint flaking it's bound to happen with what I'm guessing to be aluminium, I'll be doing the same this winter stripping it back and coating it. Hope your well hopefully meet you again in the new year

That name 'Smoto' sounds very familiar - that could have been where I got mine!

I have Avon 3d's on my Honda cbr650f so much better than the dunlops the bike came with. I had them fitted earlier this year and rode home on wet roads and in that short distance they gave me a lot more confidence than the dunlops ever did. Having said that I've only been riding for 18 months.

I've got the Avon 3D XM on my Stripple R and I'm not too happy with them. I've had a few moments of the back end slipping out in low lean angle. I'm going to swap them out a pair of Pirelli angle gt's. What mileage have you got from your Rosso's?
@OfficialSmo7 жыл бұрын
Well, shit. The Rosso's don't last *too* long, I was lucky to get ~4k from the rears. Better now with the 2.
@TheSpectre2237 жыл бұрын
I have a set of Avon Roadriders, from the lower end of their range. No complaints tbh, but then I'm probably packing sub 50hp with how badly my bike is running atm, and I hardly push it, chickens a mile wide, so I'm not the best judge. I will say though I don't feel like I have any less grip in the wet than dry
@OfficialSmo7 жыл бұрын
That's good to know - I plan on pushing them quite hard (feverishly at first) to find out what the performance is like.

Better change the Striple's mod list in the description there then buddi 😉

I used Avon tyres and nothing but on my CX500 as a courier in the late 80's,never a twitch, slide, or anus clenching momnent, and that was a top heavy bike! They started making bike tyres way before they made car tyres, Google Avon Roadrunners, almost exclusive to all British sold bikes in the 70's 80's and 90's. Saying this, I'm sure they'll do u fine buddy!

Winter tyres are for wimps lol ;) Nah JK I probably would but it's too expensive, I'll just stick with my stock tyres and take it reeeal easy ;) I would never bother on car's though, those car YT'ers are proper wimps lol
@OfficialSmo7 жыл бұрын
Agreed - it's money I wouldn't bother spending normally! Avon very kindly asked me if I'd be interesting in trying some, and the honest answer was 'absolutely'!
