Brilliant shave. That is exciting that you are trying new stones. Sean has some fantastic videos on honing with coticules. Him and Eric, have helped me getting good edges with my coticules. So I am sure you will enjoy using your new stones. I have been wanting to try the water of ayr stones as well. I hope that you get some great edges from it. The postal service is not much better in the USA, that or it is my postal office that has such issues. I can't count how many times they have delivered my parcels to my neighbors, or said it was delivered an not. Well I hope you have no issues and enjoy the weekend. Thank you for sharing and take care.

Thank you buddy. My parcel is close; it is in the depot having taxes applied to it - the swines 😃 I am really looking forward to trying them and I have a razor ready to be blunted and taken to the Coticule to see if I can use one stone from bevel set to finish! That will be a test! All the best. Take care👍

Great razor and shave. Arko is my go to travel soap, at the moment I'm using the Arko tube shave cream and liking it Enjoy a dry and safe weekend Mark

Hi Roy - We have had some gales and I saw a tree get clean snapped off at the trunk yesterday. I have never seen such a thing before. Today is bright but fresh. I hope it is bright where you are. Take care.

Hello Ray. I hope you are well. Yes, it is just a little different; it still looks a bit strange if I watch back to check a certain point in the video.

Is the lather airy? Sure is. What can we do? Toss the Arko. 😂😂😂
@FriendshipShavingАй бұрын
It was a little airy that time, I could have worked it a little more and added a touch more soap. I like Arko sticks. I think they work well, especially for the money.

Hi Mark. I think it is astonishing that a razor of that age is still giving wonderful shaves after all these years. The manufacturer probably never thought a razor they made in 1890 to 1901 would still be in use in 2024 and beyond. To put the timescale into perspective it's interesting to "google" notable events for that period. For example, the artist Vincent Van Gogh died in 1890 and in 1891 the character Sherlock Holmes created by Arthur Conan Doyle appeared in The Strand magazine for the first time. Then I wonder how many owners this razor has had. How many men have enjoyed a clean shave or a bloody shave as seen from the box in the years since it was made. As to the Arko soap, I have a box of those sticks and can testify they really do last an awful long time. I don't mind the smell at all. I usually apply the stick directly to my wet face then create a lather. Arko is very rich and creamy. It is also good value. As you say £3.50 for a stick that will last about a year. That said, I do wish they would bring back those lovely lime green Palmolive shaving sticks. I remember buying those for only 50 pence a stick. Happy days! Have a great weekend, Mark, hope Storm Darragh doesn't impact you but I fear you are very much in its path. Stay safe buddy!
@FriendshipShavingАй бұрын
Hi David. Thank you for looking into events of the time of my razor; it's phenomenal! I'm amazed and it seems to bring history alive when you can set the time with an object. I bet the manufacturer didn't give it a thought - 2024 was a long way in the future! I watched a tree outside the house get snapped by the wind. It is on a piece bank, so no damage to anyone but I was rather amazed to see such a thing. I hope none of these storms have impacted you in any way. We seem to be having more and more of them. All the best.

Nice razor and classic soap that shavers love or hate the scent, personally I don't mind the scent, industrial lemon scent I call it.😂
@FriendshipShavingАй бұрын
Yes, that describes it quite well😃
@Wittar7090Ай бұрын
I know Arko is a bit of a divisive shave soap but I truly like it. I am a fan of the classic barber shop scents. I guess that I am an anachronism. I find to to provide me a very slick lather. I also have a Joseph Rodgers straight razor. It is a very nice razor to shave with. Have a great weekend my friend.
@FriendshipShavingАй бұрын
I find it strange, that over the last few years, my experience of the scent has changed from toilet blocks to a nice lemon scent. One assumes the soap is just the same, so something in me has changed. I love my little Joseph Rodgers - they tend to be quite expensive now, for one in decent condition. All the best, my friend.

That’s funny that there was blood on the box! I hope whoever it was is okay haha I like arks but I have an empty luck and I use a cheese grater and put it in the puck. Cheers my friend
@FriendshipShavingАй бұрын
I think you can buy Arko in a puck, Sean. I'm sure I have seen that somewhere but it's a good idea with the cheese grater. Take care mate.

A great shave to welcome us back into your dan, Mark. That is a lovely looking razor. Is it possible that there were very small amounts of swarf on the blade, which came off during the initial strokes? Wishing both you and your mum a grand weekend. Please pass on my regards.
@FriendshipShavingАй бұрын
I don't know Lee, as I did strop it well before use but, if there was some swarf it may have been deposited and then picked up again from the strop. It's possible. Good suggestion! It is bright but cold here. Be well my friend.
@davec1768Ай бұрын
Nice razor Mark, I've got a few Joseph Rodgers and sons, and one Joseph Rodgers, to different manufacturers. I much prefer hollow ground razors, anything heavier than 3/4 hollow I find not as smooth and they take much longer to hone. Can I suggest you give a 6/8 George Wolstenholme straight razor a try. One of Sheffield's very best, in my opinion. I bought a box of 12 Arko shave sticks last year for £10 inc postage. They last ages and offer excellent value for money.
@FriendshipShavingАй бұрын
Thanks Dave. I have seen one of those other Joseph Rodgers razors! Until that point I didn't realise there were two different Joseph Rodgers producing razors in Sheffield. I'm not sure which I prefer to be honest; I quite like the weight of my wedges. I have a ixl Wostenholm which is very good. I'm always on the lookout😃
@davec1768Ай бұрын
@@FriendshipShaving All the best obtaining a Wostenholme IXL or the rarer Pipe. I've acquired them for as little as £10 but they usually go for three times that price, fully restored example go for over £100. The Rodgers razors are very similar. After all they are Sheffield razors and it's hard to find a bad one. The only difference is the grind and style, which does affect the comfort of the shave.

The only thing I am expecting in the the post, and the only thing likely to come my way, is some mince pies for Christmas. Other than that, nowt.
@FriendshipShavingАй бұрын
Mince pies! I love mine warm with ice cream😃
@leehaseley2164Ай бұрын
I will say that Arko makes a good, if sometimes airy lather and has great slickness. However, for me, the smell, or stench, is overpowering, and reeks of primary school toilets and bad memories.
@FriendshipShavingАй бұрын
Primary school toilets and bad memories - that was very evocative, Lee! All I need now is a roll of Izal medicated toilet roll and we'll have the full package!
@scottfowler50421Ай бұрын
I couldn't stand the smell of arko Mark, it's reminded of gents public toilets when I got a stick from my barbershop, after I couldn't stand the smell I went downstairs before chucking it in the bin, my mum said when she sniffed it, she told me that smells like olde fashioned boyes school boys bar soap 😅😂 It didn't appeal to me about this soap lol 😂 Good to see you though 😊
@FriendshipShavingАй бұрын
I thought exactly the same when I got my first stick - I thought mam had been over doing it with the lemon toilet cleaner before I realised it was the soap! I don't get that scent anymore - perhaps my nose got used to it or perhaps other people think I smell of toilet cleaner 😂
