Small edit: It was American Bantam of Butler, PA, that designed what would eventually become the original Jeep. They didn’t have the production facilities to manufacture them at high volume, so the final AB design was given to Ford and Willys-Overland to build. Willys did submit a “reconnaissance vehicle” for consideration of the proposed government contract, but their design was not chosen.

I love the 90's into 2000's Volvo designs. I still lust after the C70 . Big Car did a whole video on the history of the 850. It's really good and a great channel overall! kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6CUkKBvj5JlqtU

Yup the H2/H3 was really popular among youngsters in Russia, so GM decided to assemble it in Kaliningrad. But since our petrol prices are not that low sales finished poorly. And the whole history of GM in Russia is a number of strange decisions. Fortunately they had rebadged Daewoo cars to help sales. Some rich people of the showbiz had the H1 but it never became the "gangster car" like Jeep Cherokee or Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban.

Very interesting story however as far as the Hummers are concerned let's just say they wouldn't be my first choice in vehicles, just a little over the top for me.

Another awesome video on an interesting subject. AM General has certainly had an interesting history. These military contract companies always seem to be owned by some giant conglomerate that is in bed with the Pentagon and Congress. Another interesting history would be on Jeep itself. Actually the Bantam Corporation in Butler, PA was the original winner of the military contract for these vehicles. They proved to small to manufacture in significant numbers and the contract was split between Willys and Ford. I understand that Henry Ford refused to use any Willys parts in the Jeeps they produced and ended up making every single part with the Ford logo stamped on them. Thank you once again for your great content.

Thanks for the kind words, and I've got a history of Jeep on the 'list', but it's a huge topic covering nearly 80 years... I'm not ready to tackle it or give it the credit it's due. And yes, I know I mis-spoke in the video about Willys designing the "jeep". I know the history and Bantam's involvement and just completely flubbed that part. :) Thanks for noticing. :)

My brother-in-law had a yellow H3. The engine died after just a few years of use and was left waiting for its engine to be replaced. He passed away a few years ago and I think he never got to fix it. Personally, I only liked the H3 but the interior, like other GM interiors, was terrible. I found their design too brash. For me, they were unnecessary big, and not too practical - likewise as the upcoming one. Regardless, I think you should do a part 2 video concentrating on the actual Hummer line-up and if they had any models that never made it to the market.

RIP your brother in law. I agree with you on the interior. It is too brash for me too. Also it really only was the HX/H4 that never got to production.

As usual, very well done, excellently narrated and interesting history! The only one of these that I like is the real, original military version. I'd take a head shot rather than purchase anything GM. IMO GM is all junk. Keep 'em coming! I love this history series.

American bantam designed the jeep The government felt that they were too small to produce enough so the country went to Willis and Ford American bantam produced the trailer for the Jeep

The Hummer H2 is the only Hummer I would ever want(except the pickup version)! The H1 sits too high (I almost broke my foot trying to get out of one)! The H3 has a five cylinder engine I will never want (only the H3 Alpha with the V8 would be worth getting)!!! The upcoming Hummer EV pickup (and upcoming EV SUV) is an insult to the original idea of Hummer! You don't buy a Hummer for fuel economy! You could have created EV pickups and SUVs without using the Hummer name!!!

I don't understand why they're going all-EV with Cadillac and reviving the Hummer brand as really expensive EVs. It's like they're competing with themselves.

@@AllCarswithJonI don't know why so many car companies are planning to go all-electric when they don't need to. To me, electric vehicles are more of a niche. Synthetic gasoline could easily replace normal gasoline in ICE vehicles. Hydrogen could easily be developed as an alternative fuel if companies actually started trying!

@@charlesbakston7414 Yes because a bunch of blonde chicks drive those cars to Costco and the business husbands that they are married to. Will never touch grass. The (REAL) HUMMER is the HUMVEE. The ones GM made were wannabe off readers because what those H-Line vehicles only go to Costco.
