Bargaining is a huge part of the culture and is probably expected at flea markets/outside vendors, but please keep in mind (especially if you come from a place of privilege/stability in terms of income and wealth) that the majority of the vendors who don't have a brick and mortar establishment, whether it be a little place inside a shop or mercado, are most likely selling to maintain their basic needs. To most of these sellers (you can tell the difference) profit is secondary.

Just for you to know, in mexico we try not to do that anymore, “regatear” because they are hard workingg people who eat, pay bills, pay education with what they sell, so if everyone who buy their stuff always “regatea” they will have less money, you dont go to a high end store and regatear to those rich stores, why would you with people who sell stuff to eat?

@isaacvalenciana6 жыл бұрын
Jacqueline Ibarra El problema es que los vendedores ven a los extranjeros y les aumentan el precio. Amy hace bien al “regatear”, consiguiendo el precio original (el que deberían darle), para que los vendedores no crean que pueden seguir abusando de la gente.

How was the pricing of the stores? I know the money conversion helps a lot but in the U.S. I'm a basic H&M, Forever 21, Gap girl. Not pricy stores haha. I don't wanna show up at a Mexican boutique and not afford anything.
@AmySerranox6 жыл бұрын
ya I would say its pricier than forever 21 for sure especially the boutiques I visited in Santa Fe and Polanco. I would say head to the Sante Fall mall if anything because there are so many different type of stores and yes the dollar is stronger and we get that tax free so it ends up being alot cheaper. and also the flea market on saturday for special unique pieces xo

As a mexican woman here I can tell you it's not cool to bargain to the independent sellers that are mostly getting what they need by there solds, and then go to the designers or departamental stores and pay their prices wihout a say. Don't take advantage of your privilige girl!

You need more then a few days to go shopping in Mexico City, there are so many stores you didn't go to, even Sears in Mexico City is way better then the Sears in the US also Mexico carries more Spanish designers that you can't find in the US
@yougoglenncoco696 жыл бұрын
Do you bargain with the prices in those boutiques? I don't think you should bargain when it comes to flea markets because those people are already struggling, so why do it? Instead be supportive just as equal to the those higher end brands.

I love this video, showing the beauty of Mexico, but I highly dislike how you encourage people to “negotiate” prices.. so not cool. If you are going shopping take your money, but don’t push sellers to lower their prices.. would you do that at Channel, Sephora, H&M, I mean even Walmart? If it’s not clearance or on sale, you buy at price point! This is why tourist take advantage of third world country people. Thumbs down!
@AmySerranox6 жыл бұрын
babe its a flea market!! I even do that here in the US. its part of their prices to leave room for negotiation. trust me I was with locals as well. it not like I was buying traditional/handmade things. you can't compare that to Chanel. Mexico City has Chanel and H&M and I sure as hell wouldn't do that there.
@michellehougland82406 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree with you Amy. My family is from there and it's always been that way. It's the same concept as a garage sale which people bargain prices. Nobody does it at the stores just the flea markets : )
