Hi Steve Hope you are in great shape. I've just made a story to use the phrasal verbs and idioms i have learnt today. I hope you like the story and any corrections will be welcomed. Thanks a lot from the bottom of my heart!! I was going to knock up something because I didn't have much time before Steve's English lesson. When I was pouring the milk into my cereal bowl, it came out in lumps. Oh... crikey, it had gone off even though the expiration date was still valid. It really put me off, and I wasn't in the mood to eat anything. I said to myself there would be some bangers left and thought I could make a butty. I didn't feel very peckish and I don't have greedy guts either. It was a bog standard butty I made: no chips or even any sauce on it. I watched one of Steve's videos while munching on the sausage sandwich. I nipped out to the shops to buy a bottle of milk and get some bits and bobs, including a margherita pizza for dinner. I was waiting for the change. However, the cashier gave me £2.50 in change. I told her that she gave me less change and added that I gave her a £20 note. She looked at me strangely and insisted I gave her a £10 note. I wasn't in a great mood because of the way she treated me. It dawned on me that she thought I was a dishonest person. So I had to defend my integrity and demanded that she check the CCTV. The manager was called in, and he authorized his co-worker to give me the rest of the money with a sincere apology at once. He asked me if there was anything else I needed. I responded that was all and thanked him. His co-worker still doesn't know I am the manager's lifelong friend.

Hi Sophie, I love it. You used the expressions very well but "greedy guts" is used as a noun to describe someone (or yourself) so you can't have greedy guts rather you would say "I wasn't a greedy guts". But it's a really good job well done Steve

Great as always!❤ For me there were two unusual expressions I’ve never heard before. You said ‘do you feel like chips’ not do you want or fancy…. and ‘going to be in the region’ instead going to be here. It’s interesting👍 Thanks
@SoundBritish
@SoundBritish 5 ай бұрын
Thanks chuck, I missed those. You are absolutely spot on that ‘feel like’ is used exactly as ‘fancy’ but ‘in the region of ’ means ’close to’ or ‘near’ . So ‘6.55 is in the region of 7’ or ‘St Petersburg is in the region of Moscow’

Nip out: go somewhere for a short time Using up: need to be used before it went bad Knock up: make something quickly and easy Gone off: gone bad In the mood: feel like doing Bangs: sausages Butty: sandwich Not float a boat: not exciting Now you're talking: I like what you're saying, agree with it Peckish: a little hungry Starving: very hungry Greedy guts: really big appetite Extra toppings: additional things put onto pizza Bog standard: nothing added Hang on a mo: wait for a short while Don't be daft: don't be silly Fair enough: agreement Sound as a pound: approving
