Did something "similar" within weeks of buying a new 1st gen but ended up having to use a relay as Yamaha seem to have spec'd the handlebar switch to handle the current load for my bike as sold new. Switch was getting warm and I guess would eventually burn out. At work our designers would spec a circuit board and then the bean counters would downgrade for cheaper parts for the build based hot life within warranty. Old industry trick keeps profits up and provides work for future "engineers" to fix once the warranty is up

@@PiggyPower You will know this dealer money maker from back in the day. Peugeot intermittent screen wiper could be "installed" by the dealer for a cost £££'s and all they did was remove a plastic pin which restricted the stalk switch position. Your switch may handle the extra load (it may not even be wired in series?) but that was not the case on my gen1

Yup or just a software change these days. One button. Done. Yeah these are done all the time on these later fazers. Some come from factory in some countries as twin lit!random eh!

@@PiggyPower There is usually a reason why other markets get identical looking but internally different parts. Suzuki used to supply different fork internals for different markets/Yamaha n Honda even did pistons (Fowlers are a good source for online part numbers for different markets) and my '03 Quicksilver is covered in Saxo part numbers which confuses the shit out of my local parts supplier...not random that 1, just 3 hour red wine fuelled lunch breaks 😄 good luck with the refurb 👍

Really good guide. But why not just put a wire between the two bulbs?

Because then you're demanding double the amps through a wire not designed for it, which could either melt the wire or cause both lamps to be dull 👍🐷

Does the short beam in the H4 turn off when the high H4 beam is activated? So that the H4 bulb not gets overheatet.

No. H4 bulbs in 100s of 1000s of bikes and cars around the world run both filaments on the dip/main at the same time without issue.

@@PiggyPower - Thanks for answering - I just bought a 2006, and I have been looking through several forums and KZbin videos.. People are writing and discussing a lot about power consumption, heat and so on. And that you have to use an cut-off relay for the short beam in the H4. Some has the idea, that you can use the black/green wire that comes from the cord from the up/down shift button on the bar, and connect an additional wire to the H4. But under the tank, at the left - there is a connector with all the wiring that comes from the front, as well the green/black and yellow/black for the lights. Why not connect an additional lead to this point? Is there any advantage in digging deeper to the next connector as you are? What more that is strange on my bike. The high beam is in the left reflector and in the left side there is an H7 bulb. So I have as well to interchange the 2 H4 connectors - a bit weird. But you are right - cars with H4 bulbs have both filaments activated. I'm from Denmark where almost everything that's funny is forbidden 🙈 I'm also wondering why there are none E approvement sign on the lens?

So when both sides are on low beam - does the H7 compared to the H4 shine brighter/spread the light further down the road?

It's just a shape/fitment. H7 does only one job, could be main or dip depending on the reflector it's fitted in. H4 is dual filament so does both dip and main.

So after your mod - you have one H4, which does low beam plus high beam then on the other side - one H7 which does low beam only? So how about H4s on both headlights so they both do low beam plus high beam? Would that not work out due the H7's reflector, which on the fazer is for low beam only?

I did this on mine when I bought it in 2011 however, when it had it's first MOT, they refused to pass it! I guess being safer is not legal!!

On what grounds did they refuse to pass it? Mine flew through, no issues. 🤔🐷

PP, I think they (he) gave 2 reasons: not manufacturer’s spec and too much drain on the battery / electrical system? Although I live and have the bike MOT tested in Wales, the tester comes in from Shrewsbury a couple of times per week. Maybe he had a bad journey in that day?? I hope you enjoy your Fazer as much as I have enjoyed mine.

@@morgaj21 too much drain?! What!? It's manufacturers spec in the rest of the world. Just Europe for some reason. Hence why the bulb is twin filament, had the slot for the wiring etc. What a pleb

Cool, i was hoping i could do this, but it looks like a bit much without a garage to work from... Would it not be possible to replace the highbeam with a normal bulb, to where you then 'lose' the highbeam (that i never use anyway) and turn on the highbeam to get a double beam?

I genuinely have no idea what you mean .. and it sounds more complicated than simply adding this extra wire from the already existing wiring 😅 plus, when you do need the highbeam, like at night or to flash someone or for your MOT, it will be there 👌🐷

Nice looking to do this on my new fz8, So you have twin dips but what about twin high beams? From what i gather the reflector is identical on both sides (just mirrored) ?

Реализация хорошая, но вот проблема с неотключаемым ближним значительная, и тем более, при использовании двух ближних, на холостых оборотах имеется просадка напряжения, и только при 3-4+ значение напряжения выходит на нормальное значение. Исправить это помогут светодиодные лампы, например как у philips или osram, где каждая потребляет около 20-35 Вт

Why do you need to switch low beam?? It's on all the time. No issues. Use of LED bulbs would scatter the light, blind oncoming traffic and produce less usable light. I've no issues at all with low voltage at idle... Especially as when I'm riding .. I'm never at idle!!

So you have both low beams on at once, when you switch to high beams you have your low beams on, plus ONE high beam? Or do you have all four filaments on?
