As others have said, the lively banter really makes these reviews a delight to watch. Way to go

Really enjoy your reviews guys, you all know how to engage the camera and speak lively into it. It makes it much more entertaining, as well as informative. Oh and the accents help too.

The French and Indian war seems like a great theme, I really want to give this game a try. Thanks for the review.

One I've wanted ever since I saw it on Shut Up and Sit Down. On my want list on BGG. I'll get to it sooner or later. (Hopefully sooner!) Great review! ...Also love the logo!

great reviews guys! I do like the banter; but just something to keep in mind... Sam does talk over/interrupt Kristoff often.

he interrupts us all... =P as do I, but only during our games, not on camera!

Kristof Schrader I'm going to let you finish, but my opinion is the most important.

FTR, the second edition mitigates the Halifax Hammer (British always win) problem, but IMHO, the British still have a decided military advantage and, even executed clumsily, they can almost always force the issue, despite anything French player can do. I played this heavily for a while, but it has an unpleasant inevitability once players have gotten past the basics. I refuse to play it anymore, but don't begrudge people who might like it. Well done review tho.

How does the second edition mitigate it - as opposed to the first?
@JasonWaeber10 жыл бұрын
Dumon Königsgelb I think it formalizes Wallace's fixes which he made when it came out how broken the game was - increased range of Native American raids from 1 to 2 for the first and removed a bateaux from the French deck. Minor adjustments to make the French better, but they really don't solve the issue of British military inevitability.

Ah, yes, right. Thank you for the answer. I got the first edition, and was for some time on top of the development regarding the second. Your comment made me question whether it was some cards that got changed, and not just a few rules. These, I already incorporate into my gameplays. Fortunately, I play it rarely enough, and with varying opponents, so we haven't encountered the HH yet (I specifically refrained from reading up on it, although I know the general direction of the strategy it takes).
@JasonWaeber10 жыл бұрын
Dumon Königsgelb Unfortunately, even if someone doesn't know how to execute the strategy perfectly, which is basically unbeatable, people playing the British aggressively tend to stumble into the basic principle even without any research.

Jason Waeber Jup, I know. But we haven't gotten there, yet, so I can still enjoy the game. Even if I know how to get there, roughtly... I just tend to not think about it too much, and just play the game. Whenever we reach the spot where the HH becomes unavoidable (meaning we "discovered" how it is to be performed perfectly, AND it has been done repeatedly), that's the time when I will think about alternatives. And one, at least for me, is the random rules chart.

You are playing this game really hard, if you have to put weightlifting gloves on to do it. :-/
@photographybykristof10 жыл бұрын
was waiting for someone to be smart! =P turns out I actually needed to wear gloves as my hands had blisters all over them (viral infection!), painful! D= not as bad as the French players economy in this game, though...
@nstiles4210 жыл бұрын
Kristof Schrader I was torn between the weight lifting gloves, or commenting that you were reviewing this with Matthew Illard's younger sister :-) All in jest, but... the options :-o

I recognize this game is tight, but man it's soooooo boring. Like you guys mentioned, it's super slow at times. More importantly for me, visually this game is so unappealing. All of the art is ultra bland. Certainly things that can be looked past for most, but for me there were too many deal breakers.
