Moved to a new house by the river and there's voles, moles, opossum, raccoons, ground hogs, skunks and more. Had a tiny opening in the garage letting voles into the basement. Got two cats, mom and daughter from a rescue shelter. These cats are freakin amazing! They cleaned out the house in short order and I sealed the garage. Now they kill everynight outside and leave them at the door. I'm going to start placing the dead in the active mole runs... I heard the moles will leave, will find out soon enough. These cats are always on the hunt, when they sleep, they sleep in an active area and are waiting. When they move, it's never casual it's always a hunt. 10/10 would reccomend.

The cats don’t eat voles for some reason. But they will leave them at your door as a gift to you! Dead of course.

I have voles in a rural yard. There are two feral cats next door in an abandoned mobile home. They haven't eliminated any of the voles at all. Not all cats are good mousers, even though they live in the wild.

I jumped one out of his hole just a couple of days ago. I was no more than 3 feet from it. All I had was my Smith and Wesson 40. I shit you not, I erased it's head completely off it's body. Left it there to warn the other voles

Voles will also come to mouse traps baited with a little peanut butter, I have caught a couple along with the mice in our back yard shed.

What about voles circling? Anyone heard of this?
@dp31m53 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen them do it on concrete for some reason. Caught a few in the middle of my drive way running round and round. Has something to do with their lack of good vision and not being able to find their paths.
@valeriebradford75403 жыл бұрын
They kill plants by “girdling” them. Essentially they burrow under the dirt or mulch and feed on the roots of plants. So your plant may look like nothing is wrong until it just falls over one day and you pick it up and find the root system has been decimated. This action of circling and feeding on the root system is called “girdling”. Is that what you were referring to ?
@amywalker75153 жыл бұрын
Ah come on with the hardware cloth and barriers. You just told us they can dig so deep they burrow down below the frost line in winter. How will putting hardware cloth deter them?
@valeriebradford75403 жыл бұрын
They very rarely dig deeper than 3-4 inches. They have been knoww we n to use the tunnels created by moles though. These may be larger and therefore deeper but the tunnels I have come across when dealing with these garden terrorists are fairly close to the surface.

I have a vole in my house how do i know because i have 1 right beside me between my chair and my wall AND IT'S SO CUTE .
@RovePestControl Жыл бұрын
It's definitely an unexpected house guest! Remember, while they might be cute, voles can cause damage, so it's best to find a safe way to guide it back outdoors.

Good advice in this one. Plastic tree guards are effective at keeping voles away from young trees in the winter. I have also heard that sense ring of daffodils planted a foot or two out from the base of a newly planted tree will deter them.

Voles are poor climbers and do not like to infest buildings, but they can sometimes find themselves in a house by mistake. A pest control professional can help you identify and treat the problem.

For every negative thing you can say about a vole you could say some positive things. The tunnels they make on your garden area to soil and make roots grow better. The tunnels they make on your garden area to soil and make roots grow better.And like you just said,they eat nasty slugs,and other insects that hurt our garden. They are NOT the pest you claim.

Voles are vegetarians. They do feed on plants. Moles are carnivores and dine on insects.

We should say nice things like how they totally eradicated my giant pumpkin plants I have been working so hard to grow plus all my tomato and pepper plants. Earth worms improve the soil and cause no damage. Obviously you are not growing vegetables, fruit or berry crops.
