So sorry for the fire, happy nothing major happened! About the walls, why don’t you use skirting boards? They would cover the spills from the grouting and protect the walls when you clean the floors. You can buy them to match the tiles you chose. You are doing a great work, I really enjoy your channel!
@OurItalianDreamHouse6 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! Haha well that would have been a great solution if our walls were straight. In these old houses it would unfortunately be even more of a nightmare than trying to perfect grout lines 😂

As an ex bathroom installer consider a tiled skirting to hide the gaps from tile edge to wall, or simple skirting board as a finish. Looks great. I love your channel.

On the bright side charcoal makes a great fertiliser! Dense vegetation in hpt climes is always a danger so glad you and your neighbours are safe.

À friend in Portugal had this problem last spring cutting stone in his courtyard….a spark from his power tool lit a pile of eucalyptus brush he’d recently chopped down (ironically as a fire prevention technique). It was scary and like you he luckily had a neighbor who came to the rescue ! Good thing it didn’t happen at the height of a hot dry Summer day. Glad you are ok ! Scary

Thankfully you’re all well. I will recommend to have a way long hose around and starting taking down all possible fire hazards around your house and neighbours. You should do what’s called in Italy “staglia fuochi” so will be sure in the event of another fire, you will have time to react. Also, consider to have a fire extinguisher on hand when doing that kind of works. Good luck!

Before you apply mortar to fill a gap ,always wet it first with water .It helps the mortar stick to the surface.

If I remember correctly, the lady of the house is Swedish? So it’s kind of funny to me that someone who grew up where it was dark for half the year all day, should be so enamored of dark colors in her house, lol. But everything always looks great in the end, so I can’t fault her taste. So glad you were able to get the fire out quickly. When I was little, my parents had a small hibachi that they were heating up on the front porch. As I was coming up the hill from the lake, I saw that a coal had fallen out of the hibachi and a fire had started under the camp. Fortunately, they were able to put it out before it got beyond a few flames, but it was so scary I remember it still 57 years later! Have a shower in your new master bathroom and relax with a nice glass of wine now that the danger is over.😊

Thank you so much! And yes Im swedish but since the ”all white”/minimalistic was so trendy in Sweden from the early 2000’s many of us are really sick of it and instead embrace darker colour trends. As a Swede, having your home cozy is really important since we spend so much time inside 😊

Yes. Unfortunately years of neglect when the house was empty created layers of dry branches, grass etc so we have a big job ahead of us.

so THAT'S why the neighbors were kind of frowning upon your unkempt plot - when you mentioned it in a previous episode I remember thinking it was kind of rude/unnecessary, so early in the Spring, when you were so busy with the house. NOW I get it - everyone must comply so everyone is safe - very glad everything went well and that they jumped in to help too! 🙏 so you not only have to cut it but cart away the debris - more work - LOL

Luckily nothing serious happend. My Apartment burned down in 2008, 100% got destroyed and it was a close call to survive (thats why my name is the rising Phoenix) I agree that things can go very very quick very wrong. Glad that everyone acted that fast. So one more thing more on the To Do List: buy a very long Hose.
