Just for FYI, you can use your grass blower and blow the fire line back into the burnt area. Works better than a rake!!!

Good Idea for homestead channel - Fire protecting you property...as a emergency management professional you should look into your States Fire Smart Program. Stay safe !!

I actually believe our house would’ve been fine, but the tractor, sawmill, and all other yard items probably would’ve been toast. Our house has green short grass all around it with gravel beds around the entire exterior and a brick facade. I’d like to make a fire fighting ibc tote setup though. Even to have around for when we are burning in the fire pit.

I'm glad you guys are all ok and great job putting out that fire. Being in from California, where we have a knack for burning everything to the ground, I can most definitely agree that a fire is nothing to mess around with

We don't have hurricanes but we deal with fires often. Fires, tornados, straight line winds (sometimes with fires). Our roads are laid on a grid every mile (in most areas) which does help with managing fires.
@billysmether623711 ай бұрын
They probably hit a rock with the lawn mower blade and caused a spark that started some dried grass on fire. In many parts of the hills and mountains in California lawn mowers are illegal to use because of all the trees and such. They have to use weed whackers because the string can not make a spark if it hits stone or metal. Thanks for video.

Jumping on the fire was smart. No need to wait on the fire department. What's the plan for dressing up the big end wall doors? Thanks for the video.
@Woodbrew11 ай бұрын
Not sure yet actually. Thinking about removing the hardware and adding some easier to open hardware. Might also add a window.
@bobflores11 ай бұрын
@@Woodbrew If you don't need the big doors to be functional I would remove the hardware, weld the doors closed and cut in a big fire escape window. Having a second evacuation route would be nice.

btw. if you ever get robbed or attacked by someone yell 'fire' instead of 'help'. Help is used to often and most people don't bother but if you yell fire everyone will turn around and looks whats going on

@Woodbrew11 ай бұрын
Haha that’s very true😅 Fires are quick though and hurricanes you have days or weeks of notice. Had we not been outside when this happened it would’ve tore through our property. I doubt it would’ve made it to our house because of the green grass, but it would’ve burnt the sawmill and possibly tractor up.

Putting wood around a fire proof container is weird to me. Why not just paint it?
@Woodbrew11 ай бұрын
That’s fair. We like the look and needed to cover the insulation. We didn’t want to lose any space on the inside by insulating in there. I also think this works way way better than insulating the inside and well it’s crazy hot here so was a big priority.
