I am enjoying your cabin build, I am from Canada and have an answer for you in regards to question about keeping your hands warm. I have worked outside in minus 4 F and what we do is put on latex gloves under your regular work gloves that you are already wearing. It helps keep the heat in and allows you to have hand dexterity while working. Don’t knock it until you try it. Hope this helps.

I forgot to mention - it is awesome to watch the gap line on the half-lap joints just shrink and disappear as the screw pulls tight. That must be really gratifying to the guy who wielded the chisel.

I am sure your dad is so proud of you and of course himself for raising you right. That’s how I feel when my son, about your age, calls me to help him to work on his home projects. I had my dad beside me in my early days of home ownership. Finishing basement, deck, furniture building etc. now I am doing the same with my kid.
