Thank you for this video. I dipped into the Window Manager pond a few times in the past but found the learning curve and set-up exhausting. I would always end up back with Plasma or Cinnamon. A couple of months ago I actually tried Gnome again after several years. That's when I realized a mouse is just slowing me down. After watching your install of dkWM I thought I would give it a try. Not only is it easy to use, the config files are understandable and easy to change. Only took a couple of days to get it to where I want it and I haven't look back. I can see myself using this long term, for several years, until the end of Xorg! Keep up the good work. It's people like you that make the internet a wonderful thing.

Thanks, I truly appreciate hearing that it was helpful! I too plan on staying with DK long term for the same reasons. 👍👍

Would you give hyprland a try? It is really straightforward. Sample configs online will get you started quickly.

Hi Ben, I unknowingly had a problem with my Contact form, but I have it fixed now. I changed my domain and email a few months ago. Could you please resend the info? Thanks!

Nice overview Jack. I know this was mostly about DK, but curious if there’s anything that would have you recommend Arconet over something like Endeavour? They seem quite similar.
@jackkeifer7 ай бұрын
They are both quite solid. At least for Window Managers, Endeavour seems more bare bones which is nice if you want to build a desktop yourself, but starting with a basic foundation to build on rather than starting from scratch. With Arcolinux I can choose a bare bones route, or have a desktop done for me. Their theme selections appeal to me as well. For example, in Hyprland I can use the Waybar theming selector to instantly choose from many nice themes and css styles, and then I can tweak from there if I wish. Otherwise I would have to theme it all myself which for me is too time consuming. For someone else, theming & configuring from scratch is the whole point. I guess it would be like comparing people who want to buy something assembled versus getting a DIY kit. Between the two there's something for everyone. 👍

@@jackkeifer Think I’m going to download this same ISO and watch your video again. I’m just getting window manger curious and I want to revisit some of the tweaks you did to yours.

@@krazykat64 Very cool, I think you'll enjoy the journey kk! I was never a window manager fan until I actually gave it an honest try one day. Now whenever I use floating WMs they just feel so clumsy in comparison. I can never imagine going back, lol!

I have been and continue to be a fan-boy of Arcolinux (for more than 3 years). Your mention of Endeavour is the reason why I am replying. I agree that they are quite similar so much so, that you can install the latest (5th year anniversary release), install the Archlinux-Tweak-Tool and you essential have a variation of Arcolinux. If you like the Arcolinux's aliases, the Tweak Tool will make it happen on any compatible Arch system. I just did this recently and enjoying it very much ( I like to tinker with Arch and Arcolinux). In addition, I have installed Stephan Raabe's dotfiles (Hyprland) and have found his version very stable in both Arcolinux and Endeavour.

Hey, Jack. Do you have any plans to take a look at Tails for all us paranoid Linux users?

I follow the dev's channel. Lots of useful information in autistic detail... Sadly I'm a dummy I can barely follow him.
