Had an Archer fish in my 8' by 6' pond near my front door here in Thailand, one day I went out to go to my car, suddenly I felt a sharp jet of water hit the right-hand side of my face, I turned to look at the pond and there was the Archer eyeing me up. I guess he associated me with food, or was telling me 'feed me'. Or maybe he looked upon me as prey. I estimated it to be about a 4 foot shot.

Wow, so the fish knows about the shift in position of object due to difference in refractive index. As a result it has to aim a litter lower than where the object appears.

@@mosu8779 Basically the fish has to adjust its aim because water distorts images or how we see things due to the way light travels through water. Because of this archerfish have to adjust their aim to actually hit their target (Much like how people spear fishing above water have to adjust their aim a bit and not actually throw the spear at the picture they are seeing (the fish) but a little to the side or top of it.

I don't think it has any options otherwise. it doesn't get land-lagged and have to readjust back to the water or anything.

@gabecollins5585
@gabecollins5585 Жыл бұрын
@@jedimasterham2 I’m not a biologist. Animals evolve many weird things to help them survive in their environment to hunt, camouflage, reproduce etc. Do you think humans getting smarter over time and learning new skills and having different instincts was god? No. It’s based off of our ancestors experience over millions of years and intelligence carry’s over with many things. Our brains evolved to help us survive and so we can have increased intelligence. Our strength, muscle mass, teeth size decreased so our brains could develop. Skeletons show evidence of evolution. Why do you think humans and apes are so incredibly similar? Our brains evolved to be much more intelligent. I believe biologists and scientists know much more about evolution than someone’s perceived interpretation of god and how animals evolved. These things don’t just pop out of nowhere at the snap of some dudes fingers in the clouds. Some evolution can happen in within a hundred years which has been documented. If an animal cannot evolve to fit its environment something called natural selection takes place and that species dies off. I’d like to see your hypothesis on why you think these things are made from god and that you think animals don’t evolve.
@jedimasterham2
@jedimasterham2 Жыл бұрын
@@gabecollins5585 First, as an empiricist, I examine the evidence. What we're taught in schools is not evidence, but is academic conditioning (using selected biological/anthropological opinion as propaganda) to believe one specific view preferred by those who run our education departments. There's a book called "Dumbing Us Down" that documents how the public school system has worked to deter critical thinking, has disabled people intellectually, and they end up brainwashed rather than think for themselves. Very excellent read. The reason you say "animals evolve many weird things to help them survive in their environment" is due to this conditioning. The explanations for these "weird things" is essentially magical, large jumps in skeleton structure, and it's an excuse to fill in the blank of the proverbial question mark. And if you ever want to study this formally, you'll never actually see these bones. You just have to take this on a blind faith basis that they're telling the truth. It's similar to dinosaur bones; you only see the replicas at museums, but never the actual dino bones. Second, the problem with your view is the unscientific presupposition that animals "don't just pop out of nowhere at the snap of some dude's fingers in the clouds." The reality is, God either exists or doesn't exist. From an objective viewpoint, the science points to God. The specified complexity in all organisms is so specific and intentional that it infers intelligence, not random mutations. We can look at any organism on earth and we will find this, but not randomness. For instance, take the specified complexity found in the symbiosis between ants and aphids. The ants clip the wings of aphids (so they can't fly away), move them to the best plants, and then farm and milk the aphids. As they walk over them, the ants feet tranquilize the aphids, keeping them in place and also enables them to re-grow their wings. As such, the ants protect the plant and the aphids, enable the aphids to spread. It is so specific in the mutual benefaction that random mutations would be impossible. And there are thousands of examples for anyone to observe. The evolutionary hypothesis posits that random mutations (which no one can prove ever exist, or how such mutations actually occur) cause this complexity over millions of years through natural selection is simply insane. It's more religious than scientific, if I might say so. It's also propaganda, and they simply reiterate that it's a fact and proven. Anyone who has studied propaganda (the book "Propaganda" by Bernays is a good read) knows that repetitive conditioning triggers memory formation, and teaching this to children at early ages works to instill views and beliefs, because their minds are susceptible to influence. If you want to have a discussion about this, let me know. We can chat on Facebook if you're down.

***** So you think God taught the Archer fish to shoot down and kill other life forms, also supposedly created by God. Doesn't sound a very nice God does he? Like, "Here little insect I'm going to teach you to chew this leaf 2 feet over this pond's surface, but what you don't know is I've also taught this Archer fish how to shoot you down and eat you, tough luck sucker." There, I think I just got real, don't you think.
