We started using CLE Learning to Read, Language 1, Reading 1, and Math 1 in first grade. However I decided to switch in the middle of the year to Horizons Math and TG&TB Language because I got bored of CLE. I wish I didn't switch. I ended up switching back to CLE and finishing up the grade 1 materials. Now we are on CLE grade 2 with no plans on changing. After using Horizons and TG&TB it really made me appreciate the simplicity and thoroughness of CLE. It is a solid cohesive program that my dd enjoys. She has learned so much and retains it with the constant review. I don't see many reviews for CLE so I was glad when your video popped up. The unit tests in the middle are meant to be pulled out along with the quizzes in the back and given to the student at the time it is taken. Tfs

Cherishing My Family Everyday thanks for your thorough comment. I am debating between TGATB, Horizons and CLE for 1st grade. How long does a typical lesson take you for Language Arts and Math? Have you tried any of the upper levels? Thanks.

@@CatherineAragon1536 hi!!’ Im torn between horizons math and cle math!??? Which did you enjoy better? Which is more cohesive ?

I am so thankful you posted this video. I am currently using TG&TB for Language Arts, but your assessment of the program reflect my concerns as well. We use CLE for Math, and I have been very happy. I think we'll be making the switch soon. Thanks again for sharing.

Thank you for sharing this thorough review. Could someone looking for a secular language arts program tweak this program or is there too much Christian content? Thanks you for taking the time to respond back.

Do you happen to know how far in they start teaching cursive? My soon to be 3rd grader hasn't learned cursive yet but I'd like to teach him this year and was going to purchase level 3 but may purchase level 2 instead since they're teaching cursive in level 2

This coming years we will be using CLE for reading. I bought the readers and light units. How important/ useful are the teachers guides?

Thanks for this video! I've been using CLE for first grade (language arts and reading), and have been going back and forth between sticking with CLE or use something else for second grade - I love the content and simplicity, but I find that it does take us quite a bit of time to finish. For second grade reading and language arts, about how long does that take for you and your child? While I really like the thoroughness of CLE and the wholesome stories, I keep wondering if there is something else that's also thorough but a little less time consuming. However, I have a feeling I'll stick with this. I've briefly looked at Rod and Staff as well.

I feel like 2nd grade moves much quicker for us. My son can complete most of the lesson on his own. The only thing I really help with are new grammar concepts. :)

@@CaffeineLessonPlans That's good to know, thanks! Do you have him read orally from the readers, or does he read independently? My daughter is not yet able to read longer stories independently.

He reads them independently.

Thanks for the video. Can you do a video of more of the inside pages of the books for language arts. I have abeka phonics and language 2 however I’m really liking the other subjects I bought from cle and I’m thinking of going to cle for language arts

Your flip-throughs are so helpful. I've been sort of binge watching them over the last week or so. Thanks so much. I'm curious as to which language arts and reading curriculum you are currently doing and how it's working for you. Did you stick with CLE? Thanks again.

Thank you so much! I need to do an update- I’ve been off KZbin for a bit due to family health issues. We are currently using MasterBooks’ Language Arts for a Living Education. I really do love CLE, it was just a bit too much each day for my kiddos. We are also using IEW’s Fix-It Grammar to supplement. :)

I know this is an older video, but did you continue using CLE? Would you say the Teacher Guides were absolutely necessary at this level?

Thank you! We actually started using MasterBook’s Language Arts for a Living Education and IEW’s Fix-It Grammar this year. I love CLE, but my kiddos needed something that didn’t require so much work each day.
