Anyone who can research this cemetery and let me know some details, I’d love to know it! Stumbled upon this one unexpectedly. The two cemeteries don’t appear to be connected, none of the names match. And there’s too much of a difference in the burial dates. Amazing really. How exciting! 😍So historical! 👀If u go back would you consider looking at the bottom of the vase? I know it's probably handmade or any markings would be long gone , but the color was still so vibrant & the 163 years ago marker could be read (Altho was probably redone at some point, i can't wrap my head around it being original & exposed to elements) 🤔well, maybe there something under there? Suggestion=get a little tote/belt clip & have a flashlight, soft whisk broom & such things u use to be able to grab'n go.... Than no more fussing wondering if u have everything 😉 😂wonderhussy had a video yesterday that she just made 1=calls hers a bug out backpack, but it's an explorers version. ✌️PEACE 💜BLESSINGS 👼

Hello Side Steppers Wanted to share some I found about an old cemetery I recently found in Athens, GA while on vacation. It is called St. James Baptist Church Cemetery. Newest grave found was 2005 nothing newer than that. All graves from the late 1800s early 1900s. Found at least 5 war veterans. But mostly alot of unmarked graves and no church in site.

This video tugs at my heart, thinking of the poor people, especially the parents, standing around one of those graves in the rain, while a preacher read the Bible and their loved one was lowered.Oh,how it must have hurt to turn and walk away, leaving your baby out there in the rain . My mother suffered that in 1940 and still cried 30 years later if she allowed herself to think about it. How strong our forebears were! They deserve to be spoken of...thank you !

Absolutely AMAZING videos...I really enjoy watching your visitations to these old forgotten cemeteries. You are SO respectful and really honour the people who are buried here. These are human beings who lived, laughed, toiled, Loved, laboured, and lived the Human experience...it's WONDERFUL that you honour and bring their life stories back to new Generations.

Col. was born on my birth day, July 15. But he was born 137 years before me. Ichabod is buried in the Beulah Bapt. Church Cemetery in Luvale, Ga. He was born in NC. And had 12 children with Polly! Man he was not in church all the time was he? He was a planter in 1740 and had a large plantation there in Stewart Co. He has quite a history. I am assuming there are no other family or members remaining to maintain this site. On one of your other videos, some one commented a link for registering the slave cemeteries. I wonder if there are slave graves there as well. Those are some of his kids, and grandkids. This cemetery has been abandoned since 2010.

Thanks! Too bad the old church building is long gone. Amazing that the fence around the cemetery is from the early 1900’s! Interestingly enough, the new cemetery appears to be predominantly African American. And while the newer graves are anywhere from the 70’s - present year, some date back earlier. I can’t help but wonder if they chose to bury there because they had ancestors buried there, possibly in the form of unmarked slave burials. Or maybe it was just open land and space for a cemetery was needed.

It would be interesting to take surveying flags out and for example place the white ones on the born dates in the 1700’s, red for born dates in the 1800’s and blue on the unknowns. With the overgrowth and the widespread date ranges, there has to be many more that need rediscovered.

That was interesting, whist watching I was imagining the people who attended the funerals there. The grief of losing there loved ones and the way they were dressed to attend the service. Very different times indeed. Some of those graves are so early by American standards it's just an amazing find . I guess it would have been horse and cartridge back then. Here's a thought, I wonder how long before the newer graves there are also forgotten !! Time and tide wait for no man. Many thanks.

I'm certain this has been answered but just in case, if you're in Stewart Co then it is the Beulah Baptist Cemetery. Ichabod Cox was a founder and is probably the oldest person interred there. Several other Cox family members are there as well, including his second wife from Talbot County. Lemuel Cade and Burwell Perry are also likely from old pioneer families. The Cades were quite prosperous in Wilkes Co. during its early days. And part of the Perry family helped found the Republic of Texas. I have found no explanation for the separate cemeteries.

Great video. Looking forward to your return to it for a more leisurely tour. BTW Ichabod is pronounced ICKabod. I know, I know, English is such an illogical language. Oops not English; Hebrew in which case we can split the pronunciation 50/50. ICH would start at the back of your throat. But the English version is ICKabod.
