One thing I absolutely love about your interpretation of Andross and the Venomians is that, realistically, even if Andross is evil or insane, to some extent his regime has to _work_ or else it'd never get big enough to be a threat before it collapsed. From all your videos, Venom comes across a lot like many real-life totalitarian regimes: heavily militarized and tightly controlled... but life goes on there nevertheless, and it doesn't necessarily mean every Venomian is straight-up _evil._ Venom's still got its civilians, its professionals, its people in charge of making sure the regime runs smoothly with all its day-to-day needs, and its official state propaganda (the Andross poster) meant to help everyone believe their leaders are admirable and that they're part of a good civilization, since people need to believe those things. The flight controller may be a Venomian but he's also (as far as I know) a person just doing his job, and doing it well, and both he and James can acknowledge and respect how the other has a lot of experience even if they're technically on opposing sides. I _love_ stuff like that. It's far more interesting, frankly, than anything the official series has ever made. Can't wait for episode 2!

According to the credits in the video description, the Baymaster's name is Noguccini. There was, evidently, a "Bear Noguccini" in a Star Fox comic that was part of an old Japanese strategy guide for the original Star Fox game. In that, Noguccini was an intelligence officer for the Lylat Defense Force who provided General Pepper with vital info (maybe this one is that character's ancestor?). If they're pulling character names from THAT far back, I must add another layer of kudos onto the folks working on this project! *Edit:* And it looks like I was right! Their older video, "100% blender" shows character designs they're working with, including Bear Noguccini! :D

That was incredible. Some would call this boring, but I say that such a slow, measured scene like this was absolutely fascinating. Such a concise segment of character development and worldbuilding. So many things were conveyed through so little. James McCloud is a veteran pilot with thousands of flight hours. It didn't tell you, but you can just tell. The flight controller is equally a pro. Everything was done exactly by the book. James was at ease the entire time, but was in complete control. The animation captured everything perfectly. The hand-drawn character felt right at home in the 3D environment, which is will always be a great achievement. And the fact that this was made by essentially one guy, doing everything from the 3D, the hand-drawn characters, the voice acting, sound effects, rendering, and cinematography makes this even more impressive. Remember, 'The Industry' is not the only place you'll find good animation. Independent animators are constantly treading new ground, both technically, and in terms of storytelling. Studios with thousands of employees can churn out a new movie every year, but this guy only puts out a full short every five years. And you know what? It's worth the wait.

I agree full heartedly my friend. I may be a graphic artist at heart, but the amount of passion and dedication this guy has beats the crap out of any competition. I still feel the same way about a Fox in Space as I had when I first discovered it. Where as to things like Hazbin Hotel or Helluva Boss, I feel that those shows have been oversaturated with the modern audience in mind. And to be honest, I kinda hate that. And what you said is true, thousands of employees with hordes of money can't even compare to what this is. Basically, art itself. The industry, so to speak, is in our hands now.
@jedder
@jedder 3 жыл бұрын
I can see why people would think this scene was "boring", but I feel like people bored in less than a minute need to refine their taste. Another great thing about this scene is the music. The music is a detail I especially love in Gafford's work. There's times when a character can't afford to express how they really feel in a certain circumstance- say, nervous when in danger- just so the audience can see what they're thinking, so the music tells us instead. A normal day docking at an airport wouldn't need music- now THAT would make this scene boring. But this is no ordinary visit for James McCloud. The music alone conveys a sense of foreboding uncertainty about coming to this planet, whether because of James purpose or just cuz the planet's as creepy as its name. Either way, you know something's coming up once James docks his ship.

@Deathshuck
@Deathshuck 3 жыл бұрын
@@sparxskywriter2589Well yes and no. The biggest problem is hiring animators who could animate in his style. When a visual aesthetic is this specific, it's very difficult. However, he could easily hire people to do 3D interiors and textures. When he modeled the Venom train and it's interiors, it took months. If he could delegate a task like that to a couple of modelers, while he's busy animating other scenes, that kind of workflow is feasible. The real issue however is money. He simply doesn't have the funds to hire extra hands except for smaller tasks and he has done it before. Modeling entire scenes for example is a whole different task entirely.

My favorite thing about Fox in Space is the tone. Nothing's loud or in your face. It's quiet, subtle, fitting with the 80s vibe you're going for. I think people tend to forget that most action films from the 80s and 90s were mostly talking and quiet drama punctuated by action. People didn't enjoy those moves solely for the great and cheesy action, but also for the quiet drama and subtle humor. Love how well this series captures that. Can't wait for the next episode.

The banner reads "For our planet, for their future, select Andross for Venomian Premier". He's in a doctor's coat (makes sense, what with him being a scientist) and he's holding a baby who is assumedly his patient, judging by the scrubs they're wearing. I think the Gus Fring comparison is right on the money, this Andross wants to look damn near immaculate.

Thing is, even if by a complete manipulation of fate itself Nintendo decided to buy into this project, there's ZERO way they'd let it have the same kind of tone and story that it currently has. It'd turn cartoony and cliched in an instant. Making all the characters mature both within their own personality and within the premise of the world and the events that tie everyone together really makes it easy to get invested in what's gonna happen, especially personally speaking from my own military background and the various struggles I faced there

I'm so fond of the old digital filter sounding effect over their voices, I want to have it and filter my own voice for fun.

Your subtle details are something to strive for. The moving eyes scanning the area, other ships flying around and the vehicles in the bay all parked at different angles. Everything is top notch.

Oh man, a great touch too, the blue internal lighting fades as James enters the more well lit corridor. Of course they would fade, don’t need the internal lights on in a well lit environment. Amazing stuff

I absolutely love how you've integrated the low-poly SuperFX aesthetic and sound into every scene that it appears. Never feels out of place, it's all just part of the show's signature look. Combined with the dark atmosphere, made me think if Tron: Legacy were an immediate, animated series follow up to the original film.

I love how the colors blend together during the shots of James McCloud seated in his starfighter. They blend together as much as color lights blend together in real life. Also the attention to detail on that Andross propaganda poster made it look _REAL_ . Man, when is this stellar show coming out?! We have the first episode, then a buglnch of snippets from others.

I love how even in this small scene, you are able to tell so much with so little. James McCloud casually arriving on what is likely Venom before the war, where though a somewhat adversarial government, it is still at peace. What's more is that this is likely a casual routine mission. My prediction is this is where Pigma makes his betrayal likely after a confrence with Andross. Andross seeing that negotiations are not proceeding as he would have liked convinces Pigma to change sides, starting with Eliminating James McCloud. But this is merely speculation in my part. I look forward to what you do both visually and plot develepment. Your work is incredible as always.
