Good discussion on this box. I bought one for this exact reason - exploring saturation and distortion in a hands-on way with the bonus of the effects to have a single box for convenience when I don’t feel the need to create a full on pedal board on my desk. It will also double as a master bus processor when I play live so I think I’ll get my money’s worth from it and if not the resale value will be good. I am also hoping that there will be some additional models (shimmer, plate and spring reverbs, flanger) added to further differentiate between it and the syntakt or digitakt as effects processors.

Bro you have ALL of the dopest synths. Im living thru u! Love the heat+fx tho. Makes everything sound so good. Itd be nice to see an updated version of this video, especially if you were to go over some of the other aspects of this box. Like the compressor or showing some of the things you can do with the lfo's and other modulation sources. This box can get so much deeper, but I can see how some of those other things might not be in your workflow. Also, you make great videos! Please keep it going!

I've had my eye on this for awhile now, and...yeah, I don't think it's really going to scratch my particular itches for that price. Especially since I'm still in the G.A.S. stage of getting back into music and need to focus elsewhere anyway. 😉 I'll see what Elektron does in the future with firmware updates. I always appreciate your takes; love this channel (and the OG one, too)!

I run my synths through a Tascam Model 24 and the stereo output of that going into the AH2, mostly using either the Saturation (tape emulation) or Enhance (tube emulation) settings. Makes every synth sound better. Not sure if the V3 is with it just for FX that I can add with plugins.

To be honest, you’re probably better off buying separate pedals that do a better job than this unit. 🤔 Hmm…That would be an interesting video.
@Bolt_241
@Bolt_241 8 ай бұрын
there aren't really pedals with this many analogue distortion circuits. But you could argue that for the other fx, seperate pedals offer more flexibility - altough you do have to factor in that the fx here are re-arrangable - so you'd have to include a patch bay in the mix as well... This offers quite a bit of value actually, it's hard to beat with seperate units.

Hi there I love this thankyou so much, it's taken me awhile to get used to how the work flow works in elektron boxes, i watched your other youtube about midi and connecting up elektron boxes through midi, I have the syntakt and the digitakt 2, plus I have the latest model theremin, which has CV out on pitch & Volume, just wondering how would I set that up so I can use the theremin on one or more of the channels on my syntakt, hope you don't mind the unsolicited question but I'm at the stage now where I need to ask someone who understands midi, thanks in advance 🙏🏻

It strikes me that having a compressor is one very useful thing for a synth front end, particularly if you're talking about drum synths. How is the compressor effect in this unit and does it do a good job for that?
@teftymusictech
@teftymusictech 7 ай бұрын
Definitely decent. The analog saturation will have more character, but the compressor module will get the job done for 'compression' duties. Just don't expect it to give you 1176 characteristics. I have a fair number of analog compressors and they all have different characters. I still use the basic compressor in Ableton when I just need basic compression.
@XxChrisxXBedofRazors

I’ve been considering this to add character and fatness to a Jupiter-X I have. It’s a great sounding synth but it’s too sterile, cold, and flat. It’s hard for it to sound well in a mix because all the synths I have are analog and sound powerful in frequencies, that they overlap the Jupiter-X. Even a Prophet ‘08 I have sounds louder.

Mod wave is a sleeper synth, can do digital and very good analog poly, also own the Heat+FX, a lot of people don’t think in the compressor side of the Heat with the circuitry, The Heat has taking over some of my other beloved and pricier gear. (Thermionic Culture Volture $2K and Super 15 around $4K, Set of Empirical Labs Distressors $3K even my boss Studio Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor which sits at more than $10K even any opto Compresor around) if you know how to dial your saturation and compression with sidechaning, this is a very inexpensive unit to have. For all those that say $1K is to pricey, they are not the market for a big boy unit.

I find the inclusion of FX quite strange considering how I'd expect the Heat to be used. You're generally going to put everything through it at the end of the chain as a 'make everything sound slightly nicer' box. You'd really want the other effects to already be applied to individual elements before you reach that stage. Limited uses for a very high price.

@user-th6rh8zp3t I don't see your point. You could have more creative freedom for the same price if you had separate effects. The heat is fantastic at distortion. To utilise the other effects, you are forced down a path that's comparatively limiting.

I bought one, reviewed it, have some likes, some disappointments. They should’ve made the analog effects re arrangeable. Having the distortion after the filter and eq means we could use it as a clipping solution. My second and perhaps easier solution would be asking for a limiter or actual built in soft clipper. I don’t care if it’s digital. Unless if you need an fx rack for like, micro freak though, the mk 2 is just fine for people who use a daw.

Are there any noticeable differences between the MK1 and AH +FX in the distortion circuits? I know they upgraded the circuits when they released the AH MK2.

@iceymagoo
@iceymagoo Жыл бұрын
Could you elaborate on this or provide a link to somewhere with more info?
@Kaffimusic
@Kaffimusic Жыл бұрын
@@iceymagoo Until now I haven´t seen anyone making a video about that. The Mini and the Ultra as well have audio inputs (Mini mono, Ultra stereo) that can be processed though the internal FX. Both have a 5 block FX section with a autopanner upfront. It´s not premium but works fairly well with distortion, compressors, chorus, flanger, phaser delays, and reverbs. Different types of everything, syncable to clock, and the blocks can be arranged in different ways. Additionally you can use the arp as a gate section, so pads that are fed in can be chopped in programmable rythms. There are other synth with audioinputs, also with more premium FX sections than the small Novations, but that´s a feature that is hardly shown or talked about. Read the manuals. I though about making a video about that, since I programmed some FX patches for audioinput only and have some very pleasant results while feeding cheap or more expensive monosynth without FX sections into it. However, it takes some understanding how to program FX, the stuff is so featurepacked, it needs experience for good results. Especially the reverbs need some tweaking to come over pleasant, they are the weakest part. Chorus, delay, no problems. But, well, for the money... Those small Novations are very powerful. Somehow not loved by the synthscene. Stocksounds in the synth are not really to my liking, that might be a reason and the complexity of the modmatrix.
@Ambientnauts
@Ambientnauts Жыл бұрын
Very interesting, the Novations are seeing a bit of a resurgence. The band Cannons uses one live on stage often. Very versatile piece of kit. So are you saying that the Mini or Ultra as an Analog stage or filter that affects the input audio? I didn't think they had that. Or maybe your saying bottom line you like the sound of the Mini/Ultra Digital filter and it sounds great when you run another audio source through it's inputs. I know musicians like to run audio through the Alesis Ion for the same reason. @@Kaffimusic
@Kaffimusic
@Kaffimusic Жыл бұрын
@@Ambientnauts Uhm, no, I wrote you can use the MultiFX section and run external gear throug it. Not the filter or synth section. Like it was a stompbox or tabletop/rackmount fxunit. However, more processing can be done with the vocoder. You can use the external audioinput as carrier as well.

Hi . I tried to contact Elektron but they don't give me an answer about analog heat fx. The question is about gain staging. It is normal that by using the rear analog L/R inputs (therefore without using overbridge) and by putting the analog heat in bypass (after having adjusted the input to the maximum possible volume), I have a signal in the DAW that reaches the maximum around at -23 dbfs? Even if I activate the analog heat and adjust the output with the level knob I can push the maximum around - 23 dbfs before activating the exclamation point on the output meters. Can't I get a stronger signal out? If I push the signal more the exclamation points above the analog heat meters light up. Is it possible to increase the output signal without cutting anything? The channel on my apollo x16 is set to +4 dBu and I have no low volume issues with any other external hardware I own to get at least -12 dbfs in my DAW. I just want to know if this is a normal feature of the analog heat fx or I have some problem. Thank you and congratulations for your great work!
