I've been using this for a while and find that it's somewhere in between super powerful and not quite there, as you point out here. I love the idea of it, but it is too big and the overall flexibility lacks. I also do music in addition to content creation and I would love to use it for both, but I just don't trust the quality for music.

It has west coast style wave shaping/wavefolding which can sound quite a bit like PM/FM.

@@ilovecatsandsynths9702 ahh ok

It can do FM but I didn't apply any FM in this video. All of it was the shape knobs doing the wave folding. A digital FM synth will sound a lot 'cleaner' in the signal path. The Taiga has some inherent noise 'finger prints' in the signal.

I'm relieved that you had a couple of bum units, but that's because I had 2, and for each one I could not get the filters to open up. At all. Some very faint "thumps" was all I could get out of them. I was so disheartened, and I honestly thought I had somehow forgotten *everything* about basic synthesis. I recently got a Matriarch, and I was really nervous when I fired it up. No problems. I'm back to only being as 90% as dumb as I look. 😂
@teftymusictechКүн бұрын
Yeah I think they might've had some manufacturing problems with this first batch. I really like the synth so I don't want to see them struggle from this, but I hope nobody else gets soured from the issues. And yeah, Matriarch is NICE!

Nice one, I've had one of these for a few months and being new to synths, I'm not experienced enough to have noticed the tuning thing. Will be something to look into now though. I also found the midi note off problem with the digitakt, but it works perfectly fine if you use the sequencer on a novation launchpad or Oxi one. I thought it must be an elektron thing but really hoped it would work with a digitakt!
@teftymusictechКүн бұрын
For some reason your comment got flagged. All fixed now. Yeah I noticed the note off bug was strictly Digitakt/Elektron boxes. Super strange as it worked fine from Ableton midi and MPC midi notes. I'm hoping for a firmware update to fix it soon! I also notified Pittsburgh of the issue. And for the tuning, all three OSC can be slightly different. When checking it, the midi tuning can be slightly different from the CV tuning, so keep that in mind and make sure the 'midi' led is off when tuning for the CV pitch. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for watching! I forgot to mention it in the video, but Pittsburgh had no involvement in this video. This video is not sponsored. I had reached out to Pittsburgh Modular support after I noticed issues with my first units tuning. So my experience with them is purely as a customer and not a KZbinr.

Is there a loop function?
@BrentODell6 күн бұрын
Recently I've been playing around with my MPC and the fact that the track length defaults to the same as the sequence length, but doesn't HAVE to be the same, so you can get some really interesting, semi-generative things going on.
@teftymusictechКүн бұрын
Yep, it can be the sequence length or something shorter. Can't be longer than the sequence though (like a 100 bar piano improv over a 8 bar loop).

@teftymusictech yep, and when the sequence loops around, all the tracks restart, as well.

10 years of FL Studio and 2-3 years of Ableton. I've had my MPC One + for about 2 weeks and I can confidently say it was easy to learn for me. With that, I will say that I already had the type of workflow I needed and new the MPC was gonna be the right choice for me. I assume that has something to do with how easy it felt learning it. Like I was trying to have the MPC workflow on a DAW.

I might not buy a labyrinth but I'm very inspired by the sounds I'm hearing from it. Wondering if I could replicate some of the weird sequencing tricks to with with multiple tracks of 8 steps on the Syntakt. I already have that chunky boy, and I'm wondering if i could get some moog labyrinth sounding polyrhythms if I just get creative with the lfos...

You could definitely get some similar results. The Labyrinth's strength is that it'll go into completely unpredictable land. That might not be what you want, though.

Moog went Behringer in terms of manufacturing and build quality. I really cant stand those tiny knobs they also used on the dfam and other synths. Those are fine for like attenuators and stuff. But not for important functions. Its not about the size, they get wobbly REALLY fast.

@teftymusictechКүн бұрын
Polyphonic just depends on the source and carrier. The spectravox is a filter, so it'll filter mono and polyphonic sounds just the same.

I use one as a media computer (household streaming music/TV/movies). The one thing that is HORRIBLE about this computer is the Bluetooth. Sometimes I want to listen to music in a different room than the computer, and Bluetooth fails. As a Mac, you cannot upgrade the Bluetooth receiver, so basically every time I want music outside of the room where the computer and TV is, I have to switch to music on my phone. If you don't need range for anything attached via Bluetooth, it is a great bargain.

Nah, I snagged the apogee clipper for free recently amongst the dozens you have for free or come with bundles, ie. Kilohearts free Transient Shaper with clipper or Transient Designer with NI which I use 99% of the time. Wouldn't pay for a clipper ever unless perhaps AKAI modelled the early mpc's output stage in which case would probably pay just out of curiosity if it didn't have a demo
