Arent some shots in anime dimmed to help those with epilepsy by reducing the chances of seizures? Wasnt this rule set in place because of the 90's porygon Pokemon episode which cause dozens of seizures across the country?

Yes. BUT, here are some points that when taken into consideration makes it very stupid for it to still exist: 1> The pokemon episode was beyond flashy, the colours weren't just bright; it was almost as if the creators specifically wanted to cause epileptic seizures. No other anime scene would reach that level of flashiness, especially these JJK scenes. FFS the pokemon episode literally had strobe lights. 2> Monitor and TV technology has evolved a lot since then. There used to be a time when staring at a monitor for 1 hour would cause headaches. Today we can look at screens that fit into the palm of our hands for hours and still feel nothing, just because of how much more eye friendly modern displays are. 3> The goddamn distributors, in this case crunchyroll can just remove the dimming before putting it out to stream. The dimming is only for the TV version, so it's ridiculous that we're getting the short end just cause of that. 4> Lastly, the stupidest point: The many epileptic seizures, weren't even epileptic seizures. Basically a few kids who actually do suffer from the medical condition were affected, but when the news spread, it caused mass hysteria. So it ended up being as if the other kids who watched the episode were literally prepared to have a seizure cause they already know of it. Out of all the children who were affected, 2 of them were seriously affected, whereas 12000 of the children instead showed symptoms of mass hysteria.

One thing I realised it's that the goofy faces and designs don't feel jarring due to the art style. Also when Utahime is explaining the haunted mansion the laptop has a unique round touchpad which I believe is a popular laptop in Japan. Also also, Gojo prolly pressed both buttons simultaneously as he was indecisive about what to drink.

Great breakdown as usual, after seeing the Main Animator's listed for this season I have nothing but faith in Gosso's team. Episode 3 & 4 could be the action highlights of this year without a doubt. Masayuki Kunihiro is one of the most experienced and influential animators in Ufotable. Goes without saying that he's the best. I don't really like the idea of ranking animators though, since they're all incredible artists at the end of the day and at that level art is subjective.

Some things to add, in the scene where Gojo, Geto and Yaga talk about Tengen's immortality technique, the visuals change according to what is being discussed. When they mention Tengen's immortality, it shows a clock, when discussing whether Tengen will become an enemy to mankind, we get a tunnel shot of Geto through chair legs, referencing his later turn to the dark side and when they talk about how the merger rewrites Tengen's body information, it shows a model of a dna helix. Also, the reason why Gojo presses both buttons on the vending machine is because this was an old exploit in some Japanese vending machines that would get you two items instead of one. Unfortunately for Gojo though, it didn't work for him.

I also hate that, along with ghosting. And I think that it has something to do with not causing seizures for people, and that's why it mostly happens in either high-intensity or brightly lit scenes. I'm pretty sure that this started with the OG Pokemon's polygon episode, which made children get seizures or something. And it's also not done during the production process. They do it right before airing the episode.

Good analysis. But I'd like to add something. In the moment with the mouse's, they cover the distance from one end of the bed to the other in three steps, and are not animated very "cleanly". In the same scene, there's a problem with the shadows from Utahime and the bed frame. There was a nice animation of the asphalt in the beginning, but it looks different in the general background, and it causes dissonance. Animation is good, but not when it disrupts the exposition. A similar problem happens in the mansion with the flooring. At the point where the camera moves away from Mei and Utahime, coming back to them again, the floor is marred by artefacts. On top of that, when Utahime's escape occurs, the floor looks completely different from before, which also causes dissonance. Nevertheless, the second season looks better than the first.

animators have no control over dimming, it also not the compositing teams fault either like when they overblur the animation at points during season 1 and jjk 0, this is just japanese tv laws happening because Mappa decided to give a earlier time slot for jujutsu kaisen season 2 than it was during season 1. So they have to add dimming.

@@kudokudos4549 it's only dimmed during really bright scenes, I don't know why they dimmed some parts of toji vs dagon fight because it wasn't that bright. There was a old pokemon episode that caused epileptic seizures but the technology was very old back then so it feels very unneccessary to dim for current japanese technology

@@kensmen.x i think berserk is another example of an anime only mappa can adapt since they at this point, are the only studio with near orange level cgi and also are able to do insane 2d. i doubt otsuka will ever pick up berserk tho. if he did it would have to be at a point where not too many shows are airing and the cg teams are freed and otsuka does not seem to be slowing down on picking up shows anytime soon
