Spent a week in July up in Beacon saw a great sunset on the river , watched some trains. Wished I explored further north to Poughkeepsie and walked the bridge. But next time. Good video

One of the best RTF vids (and they're all good). This trip reminds me of when I lived on the Hudson, and took Metro North into town. It also reminds me that, whenever Canada lets us Americans in, I'll proceed with my plan to go from NYC to Toronto to Montreal to NYC by rail.

Excellent video because it clearly illustrates the wonderful attractions and amenities to enjoy in Poughkeepsie and Cold Spring. Have already made notes and plan on railfanning there. My wife will enjoy the towns themselves. Thanks Mr. Hosey.

Thanks for this engaging and informative video. You've definitely put Poughkeepsie on my A-List for NY railroading and photography when I return - Had no idea the station and Hudson Line views from the Walkway Across the Hudson were that dramatic! Plus, the idea of stopping at Cold Spring for outdoor dining and train watching is definitely up there as well. Thanks also for the on-camera commentary - always nice to put a face to a (now-familiar) voice. Hope perhaps I'll see you on a future railfanning day. Meantime, keep 'em coming!

Your video inspired me to visit. The Walkway Over The Hudson Is amazing. Great trainspotting! Cold Spring is beautiful & the Cold Spring Depot is outstanding. Amazing setting with tons of trains to view and incredible food! Thanks so much.

The 20th Century Limited is the train featured in the classic Hitchcock film "North by Northwest". If you watch the dining car scene carefully, and focus on the window view you can see the train approaching the (original) Tappan Zee bridge. It makes an "unscheduled stop" just north of the bridge.

I grew up in Poughkeepsie and this video really brings back memories of the NYC. I'm always curious why they put NH heritage units on the Hudson line......

Another excellent video. Shout out to your pal, Joe, as well. Seems like a nice guy. Keep up the good work. One day you need to ride the CTrail Hartford line and/or Valley Flyer which goes up to Greenfield MA and through my town of Northampton. Very scenic along much of the route with views of the Connecticut River, state capitol and Hartford skyline, Springfield unique station setup, much freight action along with Amtrak and CTrail. Vermonter service will return July 19 and follows the same route from New Haven to St. Albans, VT.

A good trip might be the Vermonter which usually leaves NYP around 11:30 am and gets to Northampton at 3:57 pm then onto St. Albans at 8:50pm. Beautiful ride.

When you mentioned the Cloisters, you were at that latitude. Just after that, you stated, "nice bridge". That bridge carried the first aqueduct from the Croton Reservoir.

"Meet me at the clock." That's in NYC. In Philly it's, "Meet at the eagle." The great bronze eagle in Wanamaker's (now Macy's), where the largest playable organ in the world can be heard a couple times a day.

That’s such a nice ride up the Hudson Line. I especially enjoy Cold Spring, hiking Breakneck Ridge, then getting a burger at the Depot and watching trains. Beacon is fun, too. Any idea why your train was running left handed? Northbound track out of service for MOW crews?

Idyllic, all of it. It does remind me of the Rheinstrecke in Germany with lines both side, the eastern bank with freights every 10 minutes or so.

Great video. I used to ride MNRR's Hudson Line when I was a college student from 1997-2001. Very lovely and scenic ride, especially during the fall. In addition, I grew up on Long Island, about a mile from New Hyde Park station, and recall the old diesels blasting through that station. The GP-38's, Alco's and MP-15AC's were beasts to be reckoned with. If you have any old videos from that era to post, I would love to see them. BTW, are you a former LIRR employee of some sort? You sure know your stuff!
@3985uprr

No I am not an employee or a former employee I just absorb a lot of information. There are many Long Island rail Road video topics at trainvideodepot.com and a lot of the trackside videos I shot back in the 90s

@@3985uprr Thanks. I'll be sure to check them out. Stewart Manor station on the Hempstead branch was also near my old home, about half a mile away, a little closer than New Hyde Park. Not to mention a little quieter, given that it's always been an electric-only branch.

See i never understood how PennCentral failed. GCT is probably one of the largest (and busiest) Train stations in the entire world. it should be a cash cow. The MTA will curse you out if you call it Station.
