My husband and kids took over my garden shed and locked me out of it for a few weeks before Christmas one year. I thought they were hiding a gift in there. Turns out they were adding a potting bench and shelves, a heater because I hate to be cold but love to be out there. Grow lights, soil, and hooks to hang my tools. They took me out there on Christmas morning, they’d lit the heater so it was toasty warm, and I cried like a baby. SO THOUGHTFUL

I can't ask my husband for any gifts for any holiday for the next 5 years! As we were preparing Friday for our family Thanksgiving on Saturday, he suddenly had "errands" to run. First he picked up a prescription, then ran to the local hardware store. Then he called and said he needed to go to work for a little while (The plant is closed for the holiday, but he sometimes has things to do that's easier with no one else around, so I didn't question him) A little later he called again and said he had to run to the nearby city to pick up something for the plant. I got suspicious then, because he ALWAYS tells me exactly what he has to pick up, and this item was just "something". (I told our boarder that he was up to some nefarious deed, but thought he might be buying himself a new recliner) When he came home, he pulled a jacket out of the closet and handed it to me and said he needed to show me something in the truck. In the back of the truck was a Harvest Right Freeze Dryer! We need to get a cart for it, because I just don't have a permanent spot it can live yet, but that gift will certainly wear a gift bow for a very long time, lol! And yes, I've already had requests for candy!

Two years ago, my grown son sat down at the computer with me, and for two hours or longer, we sat down and went through a couple of websites, picking out seeds. That was the best time, he doesn't love the garden the way I do, but he is always up for a walk through it with me to try new things, he's complete game for taste testing the herbs, etc. In that time, he got a good glimpse of mom and her loves, and it gave me some of the best time with a man(my baby), that I could have asked for. I think kids can forget that we still want to spend time with them, and they get busy with life, like we all can and do. When I got them in the mail, I was overjoyed to set them out on the table and sent him pictures of my packages of delight, he loved it and so did I. Sometimes it isn't just about money spent, but more about the moments made.

I love my Duluth coveralls! I have 5 pairs of the shortalls that I wear in rotation through the summer (I got 'em on clearance); they've practically become my uniform. I have the navy daisy ones, and every time I wear them in public I get compliments, to which I reply with giddy glee - "AND they have 12 pockets!" I use almost all of those pockets at some point during the gardening season; the hammer loop is great for carrying a fistful of landscape staples, the back pockets are where my gloves go, I carry a pencil and Sharpie with me to label things, and the zippered pocket is where I put my cell phone. Also my pocketknife, plant ties, a pair of clippers . . . Add to that, they're super comfy and durable. I've worn the first pairs I got for nearly three years now, and they're just starting to look worn. I hope Duluth always carries them, but just in case, when my favorite colors go on clearance I buy a couple pairs to squirrel away for later. This Christmas, I'm getting some of my nieces and nephews a few packets of seeds, as Grandpa prepared a flower bed for them this fall. We spent some time Friday poring over Baker Creek's catalogue together, so I could have some idea of what they'd want to grow.

Enthusiastic thumbs up for these overalls! I always used to wear old jeans and t-shirts to garden in-the ones that were too far gone to wear outside the house. In 2020, I gained enough weight that that wasn’t an option 😊, so I ordered from the Duluth catalog. The dirt doesn’t stick to the knees as much as jeans. I have one pair of long pants and one short-both look about the same as when they were purchased. It felt like an indulgent purchase but turned out really well.

Slowly over the last month my husband has been feeding my longing for, from scratch cooking. First he ordered me a freeze dryer and I was completely over the moon!! I counted it as an early Christmas gift and anniversary lol. He went Gift shopping 2 weeks ago for our 2 little girls christmas and asked for help bringing things in but warned me he had a christmas gift for me too (but he didnt want to wrap it so it was early😅). He got me a Kitchen Aid mixer with a pasta maker attachment and a new food processor. Watching you in the last year inspired me to make my waiting room a classroom. So thank you! ❤❤

If someone in your life gardens and has sensitive skin I LOVE my elbow length garden gloves from Foxgloves (Elle grip gloves model). I get itchy when I work a bunch with tomatoes and any squash, but these solve that issue beautifully! They’re unusual because I have small hands and fingers (wear a size 4.5 ring) and they actually have small enough sizes that I don’t have a bunch of extra fabric bunching up and getting in my way on my fingers! They wash up really well and I’ve had my current pair for 2.5 years and they’re still going strong. I think the cobra head mini and my hori hori knife are the best tools to use in my greenstalk (and honestly my most used garden tools overall). If you’re in an area with more restricted access or limited light, it’s really nice to get the spinner bases with wheels for the greenstalks. I also love my Duluth coveralls and honestly their button down shirts with the bust proof buttons and back gussets (flannel and lightweight summer options) are a staple for me. For any gluten free gardeners or just folks that are interested in a new flavor profile, I really enjoy all cookbooks by Aran Goyoaga. She has such a love for produce, whole grains and basque inspired cooking. Her first cookbook was divided up by seasons, and her two more recent publications (one general and one baking focused) are both celebrations of food. For more advanced cooks who like to play with variations in the kitchen I really enjoy Ruffage: A Practical Guide to Vegetables. Great picks Jess!

When my MIL started a garden at her new home a fun gift was a gathering basket with smaller items inside -- such as.Farmers Almanac book and calendar, pretty garden gloves, a kneeling pad, a few small hand tools and lavender hand lotion. If I did it again today I'd add a bullet journal (Hobby Lobby has a reasonably priced selection.) -- Use your imagination! 😁
When it comes to cookbooks I have 2 suggestions, both by Alice Waters one is called Fruits and the other is Vegetables. Alice is the one that inspired me to marry my foodie self to my gardener self. Her restaurant Chez Panisse is world renowned. She is a pioneer in the clean organic eating and featuring heirloom varieties! I love her, and her cookbooks are wonderful , leaning strongly on Mediterranean influences and some Asian cuisine. Highly recommended!

Two of my favorite cookbooks to complement the garden are A Cabin Full of Food, by Marie Beausoleil, and The Victory Garden Cookbook, by Marian Morash. You gave me great ideas. I ordered a gift card to a favorite local seed company and just ordered a seed saving case with clear containers. Thanks Jessica

I just saw that green stalk has these mini greenhouse clip-ons for seed starting! They would make a fun stocking stuffer for someone who already has a green stalk.

My sister gave me a personalized tumbler with individual pictures of my garden flowers in a grid pattern on one side and a garden saying on the other. I think of her as well as my garden every time I use it!😊

I saw something on Facebook that said the best gift for plant people is not more plants, but pots and I agree 100%. I would love to get medium and large-sized pots. I love the Birdie's Beds (I'm also an Epic Gardening affiliate, lol). I'm waiting to see how they hold together over the Midwestern winter. A garden book that I really like is The Layered Edible Garden by Christina Chung. She really leans into permaculture and encourages you to think long term when it comes to growing food.

I just had to say that i feel the pull to that Magenta Greenstalk. 😂 I received the email from them and immediately said yes please then no ma'am you have 4....the answer is no ma'am. 😆 They are a great company and if you have a question you can send them a message and they respond quickly and so kindly! I second the giftcards for seeds. One that wasn't mentioned, or I missed it, are harvest baskets. I have one from Hoss tools that you wear so your hands are free and it is very ergonomic and holds quite a lot! Hobby Lobby is a good place to find those photo boxes. I found somearked down on clearance there last year and even got a similar style that is all one container meant for scrapbook size paper that I use for bulk seed bags. Another gift would be if you are a gardener/home cook that is gifting to the younger generation is to fill out a recipe book or box woth yiur favorite recipes and pass down your knowledge.

At 12:03 If you’re in Australia you can get something very similar to the photo box for seeds at Kmart

I found your channel before you moved and I fell in love with your garden. I lived in Oregon at the time and had a big in ground garden and learned so much from you. I moved about two years ago back to AZ so have found a great channel who grows in this crazy zone 9B but I’ve recently returned to your channel too. You are still so inspiring and I love your gift ideas. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge.
