I agree with you Sam. For me there is nothing happen in the second book. I'm just like "where this book is heading to?" I feel exhausted reading this second book. By the way, great review as always.

I am so happy you said all of this because I thought I was alone in thinking nothing happened in this book and that it should be darker than it is (as mentioned in your gripe video). There's so many problems with it and no one talks about them but gushes over it. Thank you for griping over this book Sam!!

Thank you!!! I am reading A Gathering of Shadows right now and the structural/plotting problems are KILLING me. I feel like 90% of the first 300 pages could have been described quickly in flashback and exposition. The story should have begun with the party before the tournament. As I continue reading I worry more and more that nothing is going to even happen at this tournament or it will barely be described. Even though I'm not finished, I thought, "I need to see what Thoughts on Tomes thinks" because you are so good at picking up on problems like these.

I really started disliking Lila because of the "Most girls covet dresses" "I am not most girls". Straight out of r/Notlikeothergirls, I had a full body cringe.

I knew before even clicking on the video that the book wouldn't be your cup of tea, but that you'd adore Alucard. I felt much the same way. about the second book. It's easily the weakest in the series - which, as a whole, I love.

I liked first book more than this one (I still enjoyed it a lot). The thing is - I really like Kell, but Lila...I don't hate her, but I do HATE that Victoria turned their kinda friendship into love. I was so happy that A Darker Shade of Magic had no romance and I hoped that it would be the same for the whole trilogy, but nooo T_T

no you'd need to read them in order for sure. As far as your age, I can't answer that for you but I think younger readers could read this.

Just starting this today. Lilah is not my favorite and I don't love her like most people do. But you said it-we've seen it! That is probably why she doesn't impress me. I never really thought about it in depth but you definitely put a finger on it for me. She didnt write Kell to be a likable character to begin with so it sounds like the plot made that worse in the second.

lilah sounds like a fantasy version of blue sargent. i can't stand blue as a character but everyone loves her?

I like her but I don't consider Blue to be the main focus of the story so she's less annoying? It's really about the guys in that series, while Lila is the main focus of this one so she's more in my face.
