It sounds like overlaying a 3-pot onto a 2-pot engine, which considering the firing intervals would be more appropriate. Definitely didn’t have that iconic harmony of a 144 or a 72 deg firing interval, rather this one had somewhat of a brutal punch that gets harsher the higher the rev. Also, this level of backyard engineering definitely had Allen Millyard vibes. His projects alone definitely worth several videos to discuss.
@identiticrisis
@identiticrisis 25 күн бұрын
The overall impression would be a lot like a 180 degree parallel twin, because of the 3:1 ratio of the interval groupings (90+90 vs. 180+180+180; equivalent to 180-540)

I would be concerned about the imbalance. He clearly was capable of making a bespoke crank for the GSXR1100 6-pot, why not also this 5 cylinder Busa? I think they may fall short of their power target because of internal harmonics, also. Now if only someone could do this to an F20C...

I'm think many would people agree with this, but I find the Hayabusa engine most interesting in anything but a bike. Having such a high-revving and rowdy engine in a small car is such a cool phenomenon. It's a completely different sensation, perhaps more exciting (compared to the stock engine); an engine that is extremely performance oriented, outstandingly energetic, and still has power that is proportional to the car it's swapped into. It would prove to make an outstanding driver's car.

I like he did it this way. First, much easier to manufacture. Second, interesting sound, not as common as an inline-4, but definitely got some tones of it with the 5th cylinder making it sound bit angrier. That's also the third reason - it is different, everybody knows 144° inline-fives, this is original. Cool project

Why does your thumbnail keep changing?

A/B testing. Very useful tool to determine the best performing thumbnail. The first 24-48 hours are the most important for the video and it helps me pick the best thumbnail.

I think V8 is the best idea, because the top of the engine can be used stock

It could not be. The crankshaft has to be longer to deal with 8 crankpins. If you were to use master crank and pin-jointed second rod, the RPM would be limited due to oiling issues.
